EXPLODING BOILER KILLS 10 BLACK COUNTRY DISASTER

Ойын-сауық

In today's video I take a look into the tragic event that took place in the heart of the black country in 1848 when the boiler at the hartshill iron works Brierley Hill exploded without warning killing 10 and injuring many more. so join me as I explore the site and discuss some of the details,
I also take a look st the Earls famous Pensnett canal and find lost hidden part of it, I also find a lovely old bottle which a lucky subscriber will win at the end of the week.

Excellent video Jabba. Unbelievable to think what a hive of activity that area towards and along the canal would have been in it's hay day, and now its just been shut off and lost almost. Terrible to think of our industrial demise. All that heavy industry gone. Back then those people would never have dreamed that one day it would all be gone. Same I suppose for those at Round Oak albeit much more recent history. Absolutely love the excitement you show when you discover things. Could not believe that cod bottle...... not even hidden....almost as if it was put there for especially for you. Keep up the great work in keeping our local history alive.

Yes, it's sad to see the demise it really does make me sad, but I try and focus on the pride of what we had rather than what we lost ... really glad you enjoyed the video, and I also can't believe the bottle sitting their all those years in the mud on the canal edge .. your in a with a chance to win it !

Talking of the Oxford Worcester Wolverhampton Railway, known as the old worse and worse, there was an early railway disaster on that line near Amblecote. The O.W.W.R eventually became part of the Great Western Railway, yet again a really well presented and enjoyable bit of local history. Addendum. I have just noticed that you have already covered the rail disaster to which I refer but I'm going to keep my original comment.

@@BlackcountryhistoryhunterBCHH not sure why it got that name, maybe it didn't run to time. There's a detailed account of the incident in Tom Rolt's, Red For Danger book where he looks at many incidents on railways and how measures were taken to prevent further accidents. I seem to remember at least one railway employee along with some passengers were drunk plus an unofficial method of coupling was employed . I'm looking forward to watching your account, with a glass of wine (or two), tonight. I might even risk a cheese sandwich!

There's only a tiny bit of the Pensnett canal left in water and it's good to see it's still there. I did that exact same explore about ten years ago and was just as dead chuffed as you were. love the bottle!

This is one your best so far Jamie, absolutely fascinating. I walk the canals around the Black Country and it is amazing to see this small stretch of the Pensnett Canal. Your use of old photos and maps to explain what we are looking at is brilliant mate. And glad you got yourself a bottle with its ball still intact! Nice find.

Fantastic managed to find it all on google maps. cant believe that old canal is right there. That old building you went in was an old 11kv substation. The two stripped switches on the left as you entered we have some of those still in service today. Love the history keep it up
