Great point regarding singles and not training to failure, when my son was wrestling I put up a pull up bar, every time he went into or out of the kitchen he had to do one pullup. After a couple months of this he tested himself and did 33 reps.

Now lets all imagine if Devon did Everything he has done the same BUT imagine if he was ALSO.... i repeat ALSO doing a strength training routine that made his chest stronger, his biceps stronger, his shoulders stronger, his back stronger????.... Wow imagine if Devon did everything the same BUT could ALSO, i repeat ALSO bench press 500 pounds instead of 250???........ And here is the argument right?......Devon NEVER liked to do traditional gym lifting so he chose not to..... He is still GREAT, he is still STRONG, he has still succeeded....... BUT he could have been even better simply by increasing his "FUNDAMENTAL" strength, which by the way he admits himself in a video recently with coach Ray.......ok im done my rant

If a big bench would help in arm wrestling, why does Devon defeat big benchers?

@@oisinofthefianna3246 You are missing my point totally..... I never said a big bencher would beat Devon (Athough a big bencher like Eric Spoto with very little arm wrestling experience gives Devon a lot of trouble so go watch that video)...... I said Devon would be even better than he is today if he included heavy benching to his routine...

@@natcalabrese I understand what you said, I just don't agree. The bench is big in North America, people see it as a good measure of strength, the rest of the world disagrees. Strength requirements are sport specific, in many sports a big bench gives no advantage (other than packing on weight and allowing one to move up a weight class), so why train it? Devon may be proof of that.

  • @natcalabrese

@@oisinofthefianna3246 I understand your point as well...In fact look at John Brzenk who can barely bench press and still succeeds....I guess its unknown if John or Devon would have been even better if they included a full body strength routine including traditional power lifting exersizes...Possibly we will never know...... However what we do know is that the current talent of arm wrestlers coming into the sport are all doing full body strength training along with arm wrestling specific training. Let me ask you this. Do you think Levan would be who he is today if he didnt do power lifting training that he does?.....Do you think Denis would have achieved his status if he was never a powerlifter?... They both bench over 500/600 pounds and do massive heavy lifting with curls/back/legs etc... Why are they doing these lifts if it doesnt help??....
