I think artists like Devin only come along once every 10 years or so. He is truly a musical genius, a prodigy.

I still love Devin Townsend. I love his work in SYL and even his recent so called "yoga music". It's all great. He's a phenomenal musician.

You know what's the most amazing thing about this song? It's built unlike anything other. Its built more like a symphony, a piece of classical music. Very long, always evolving, constantly changing, completely unorthodox about its form. I have NEVER heard something like this.

For DTB probably the most essential album is Terria which will blow you away. It may not at first but it's an album that will reveal it's treasures one at a time. Pure masterpiece. Although it's not a very widespread idea, I recommend Accelerated Evolution (I've uploaded two songs from it, Deadhead, Storm). I think those two albums will make you want to buy all the others without recommendations ;)

Utterly flawless from start to finish,just the way this song is:D i was deemed speechless from the very first time i listened to this song, and still am left speechless every time i listen to it now. But what makes devin townsend one of the greatest(or in my opinion anyway) musicians of all time, is his constant intelligence overlayed within his music,and it makes for an amazing experience. Just utterly amazing:D

The passion in the music that they submit, get's them in a (almost) stoned mood, it's beautiful... One of a kind!

yeah he has Bipolar disorder. He's been able to control it, and has given up his use of Alcahol and drugs recently, living a clean lifestyle. He's a genius, and to know that he can continue writing pure genius while completely sober makes him one of my biggest inspirations as a musician.

Neither can I. It seems like it was yesterday that I wanted to watch Earth Day live but there was nothing on KZread and this way I found out about this bonus material and bought it. Kudos to Devin for letting it stay up instead of taking it down.

this whole dvd is so damn good, i just sit there watching it for aaages!

The reason was they had a 5 album contract and once they fulfilled that they decided to go on an indefinate hiatus. In the new album '1994-2006 chaos years' the booklet insert gives the proper reason, which is basically that, but devin talks about the band getting bigger, and more money being given to them, which when they started out were the things they hated, check it out, its a good read.

He posts frequently on his own forum actually and is cool about answering questions when he can. He's pretty busy though, with Addicted officially hitting in a couple of days, plus still working on the third and fourth albums of the DTP, Deconstruction and Ghost.

Just looked up Devin Townsend after people mentioning him. Holy.Fucking.SHIT!!

I forgot to mention that I wasn't a big fan of SYL (although I enjoyed them) until I saw their live DVD. The pure energy from that hooked me up completely, so you might want to check that out first ;)

@shipplewitz112 I think it's kind of funny that pickles, the drummer complete with Canadian accent, is so clearly modeled after Devin. And the drummer who recorded the Dethklok album is Gene Hoglan, the man who played the early Devin stuff and in SYL with Devin, hehe. Brendon Small is obviously a Devin fan too.
