Excellent review man! thanks a lot! Do you think that for a small flat, it is worth buying just one? I'm looking for the best sound quality, for all kinds of music, also for movies and series, for a connectivity that will be mostly via bluethoot, and the mono/stereo thing worries me a little. I don't know if it's worth all that money! I´m looking also at Cabasse Akoya

Hi mate super review!!! My mate has one of these but I see online that this is about £2,600 and I am unwilling to spend so much on a speaker whilst still being a student. Do you think it is worth getting one of these second hand? Or is there risk getting second hand speakers? Once again, loved the review mate.

No mics can represent that, binaural 2oyld be also great, but to get the best image of what it can do you would need to compare sounds to 3W pocketable speaker, 50W one and something more powerful and from distance about 50m. All at full volume.

@@WhatGear heard live performance, its like to listen with headphones but better in quality, and that was cheap bitrate bluetooth. Listening in wide field or loud environment is something else. Seen gold perform hearable after 200m here on utub, but still no comparison... dB means little comparison from afar to get idea about top performance is the best... well it needs space with less of people, doing it in the middl3 of town would be crazy. To describe in words reactor would be the beast, gold dangerous beast, need their environment to purr to the fullest.

@@WhatGear could try car ac/dc to power it in the wild. Should be safe as if it was testing gold, you would need probably to walk on other hill and yet hear it. To test gold you need 2 people as one may be 1-3km far(estimate in non windy weather). I'm sure for many will be reactor enough, just not me. This however needs one to think about where to listen first, time to consider moving/building house in remote location, you got to consider you will pair 22 of these 😂

I'm not sure the speaker has the same sound pressure levels as say the JBL Party Box 1000, but it is very nice and offers a very detailed sound... I think the major turnoff with this featured speaker other than the price tag, basically it always has to be plugged into a wall!!! No built-in battery, so I can't go anywhere with this speaker :-(

I've had my pair of 900W reactors for a few days now. The sound quality is mind blowing, but my right side reactor keeps dropping out and I have to reconnect very often. Its driving me crazy. Does anyone have any tips for maintaining a consistent stereo connection. I use a Bluetooth connection with my mobile to play music. Both reactors are plugged into the same wall socket and my network interface on both reactors is set to WI-FI. Ive tried Auto and PLC, they both drop out. Funny thing is, that its always my right side speaker that drops out, yet my Devialet app says the left side speaker is missing. Very strange. Any help would be much appreciated.

Power today is cheap. A speaker designer who has at his hands as much power as he wants can now produce a speaker that doesn't require box volume to produce low frequencies. Mid and treble is never a problem, never was. Now you can trade power for low frequency. The first to do this was Carver. Many have followed since. To move enough air is a physical constraint. The nature of the brain and ear allow for some cheats to give the impression of low bass by reproducing the overtones and removing the fundamental. The subjective impression can be the gain of an octave or so. Yet you can only get so small. I can categorically state here that regardless of how many patents this has - it has been done before, and done better in some cases. Maybe this is the first single speaker in a small volume cabinet to have a full band performance at 100db (which isn't that loud) with bluetooth etc. - but then most audio designers of the past were not looking for ''lifestyle'' products. That was furthest from the mind. A 1950s horn can go subjectively twice as loud as this with a 2 watt amplifier. This is what came from cheap power, it gave us smaller speakers, and this started in the 1960s with Edgar Vilchur and AR. PS that 50s horn and 6W triode WILL annihilate the Devialet in every area.

Nice job on the review, but here's my note: why not show a measurement of the sound on a 1/3 octave RTA with pink noise. If done properly (calibrated and proper distance), that would give an object measure of the sound quality. If it produces a nice curve with no more than 2-3 dB variance from one frequency to the next, that would tend to prove the quality and give you the ability of running comparison to other products tested. There's really no excuse not to now that calibrated (to the device) mics are available to run on phones and tablets with cheap apps. wouldn't cost you but around $100-200 for the set up. It's not just you, I don't see really anyone doing this, but why I have no idea!

900 watts? 300 watts rms stereo systems are way too loud enough to be compared to this, of course this tiny speaker it's powerful but no near 900 watts, well those who have one should test the power consumption with a watt meter, should be more than 1000 watts due to electronics heat dissipation ( never or impossible 100% efficiently electronics) plus those "900" watts. I bet they just use the stupid marketing way were real 100 watts rms systems are magically 10000 or 25000 watts PMPO that its just bullshit without any real meaning other than create a false sense of greatness, like i said this speaker its spectacular for its size but not even near that wattage.

It was a single phantom so it’s very hard to tell and I would have loved to do a stereo test. But based on the single speaker I wasn’t impressed with the vocals coming from the driver. Seriously people go out do some research and buy some old speakers and a good receiver or amplifier, these shit speakers only soak you in a head throbbing bass that really doesn’t sound very good mids and highs are completely thrown out the window for sub quality bass that’s it.
