The mid range does open up after a while. I have mine playing music continuously for over 5 days and what I hear now is impressive across all frequency ranges. I'm using the airplay function over Roon and sometimes thru analog connected to a chord hugo 2 ( best). Optical via a aries mini sounds great as well. Bluetooth is meh. Anyone buying this speaker solely as a 'bluetooth' device would be better off with something half its price like the vifa range. Bluetooth admittedly is its weak point. What I really enjoy about this speaker is that I can listen on low volumes and all the music is there!

I totally have to agree with Luvdac. I got two of the 900 watts, and after 100+ hours of play the sound of these babies sounds excellent on all frequencies. And they do sound impressive on both low, medium and high volume, and of cause there’s no distortion. The stereo perspective is spot on, and the bass can be felt even at low volume. I haven’t tried Bluetooth, but Airplay and optical just works!

Totally loved your honest review. I don't know who would blame you for being completely true to your viewers. I feel exactly the same about this product although I am an audiophile and I've been listening to its bigger siblings. It's impressive, noone can say otherwise, but that price is in no way justified.

My impression is that the sound is coming out of a “metal pipe”. It’s far from the “round” sound the gold version has as a single. But coupled up 2 reactors makes a big difference. Could you test them in stereo?

Dude... How could you analyze the sound properly, if you choose playing music through bluetooth? You had the choice between optical, analog, uPnP, AirPlay and bluetooth and you decided to take the poorest source on a quality side point of view...

What is it, remind me? A wireless speaker. Right. What does a wireless connection comprise of? Bluetooth. That's right. Why does a manufacture add it in there? So that you can connect and listen to your music. Sigh. It's not my fault the manufacturer, Devialet added the 'poorest source' - people will evidently connect to it through Bluetooth - tell me how many people do you know use UPnP. I covered why I don't use AirPlay (should be pretty obvious). Oh and on a side note, I had a chat with Devialet before doing the review, and they actually promote the BT function for people who want to quickly pair to it - as for UPnP, I covered it in this video. How did I know I'd get fanboys/girls on this video, what's wrong with people?

Great review! I've had this speaker for about a week and am still trying to break it in - hoping for better midrange and highs than I'm getting. I've got several speakers in the $100 range that give more pleasing and balanced sound. I know this speaker was designed with an emphasis on bone-rattling volume and bass, but I'd hoped (and still hope) that the tech would also inform the midrange. Hasn't happened yet.

@@Gren4te In my opinion, yes - it's that bad. I worked with customer support from Devialet, and I must say they were outstanding, but even after taking back my unit for testing (it was working fine), the speaker did a really bad job of reproducing anything but bass. Initial customer support suggested that I was listening to the wrong kinds of music, and gave me a list of bass-heavy techno pop songs that I should consider. Uh, no. I tried classical, acoustic singer/songwriter, rock, bluegrass, prog rock and more - none of it was really listenable. Bad highs and mids and, obviously, only a monaural output (although you can link two speakers for stereo if you're rich and somewhat crazy). Other people have clearly had other experiences, but that was mine.

Honnestly, disappointing review, first of all, why even cover the topic of soundstage when the speaker is mono. Second, the demo.. You played a heavily compressed house track. And after that you start to ramble about there not being a point in the amount of volume the speaker can produce. The volume headroom starts to make sense when you actually listen to music with good dynamics. Not when you listen to compresed edm. And the fact that you starter talking about soundbars was just offensive. I get that this isn't realy an audiophile product, so I shouldn't expect An audiophile review. But atleast know what you're talking about. Especially when you are informing people about their potential $1300 purchase. P.S. this is coming from someone who realy enjoys edm.

I can only demonstrate music that won't flag the review for copyright and block it worldwide. It was only shown for demonstration purposes - honestly can't please everyone. If I don't do that, people will complain that there wasn't a demo and when I do it, people complain that it's a crap song/compressed etc. And why on earth wouldn't you cover soundstage or lower listening volumes!?

Aside from the bigger phantoms, no Bluetooth speaker on the market comes close to the bass and yet you’re crying about the mids; enough to call the overall sound disappointing?????!!!!!!!! Yet those other speakers have nowhere near the bass. So u value mids over incredible bass? Sorry but you’ll get no agreement from me.

I’d laugh too, because your synopsis is a joke. Most all the other speakers lack deep bass and u don’t bat an eye. This devialet MAY POSSIBLY not have mids as warm and u fall apart. Yes, a joke worthy of a laugh.

Just amazed at the countless number of speakers that have absolutely no deep bass, which unfortunately is the norm, and you didn’t rate those as disappointing It’s as if you accept this deficiency as the norm. This devialet comes out, literally killing it in the bass department and because you have a slight twitch about the mids you completely allow that small “fault” to “disappoint” the entire sound. When a company is breaking all of the rules and finally giving us the deep bass we’ve all been missing in these Bluetooth speakers, you don’t go griping about “oh, the mids”. What about “ oh, the bass” we’ve been denied all this time, especially when manufactures use bass as a marketing ploy to tout theirs speakers? This bass in something this small is a remarkable achievement and handily outweighs the bass-LESS mid-queens of those other speakers. If you think this devialet‘ s sound is “disappointing”, then all of the other speakers sound completely “UNACCEPTABLE”.
