    Devialet Phantom Reactor 600 pair sounds really good. I have a very limited space for speakers in my room and I got a pair for my pc running trough a Topping D50S dac (32 bit 768KHz signal) and AudioQuest golden gate cables for a wired connection and they sound so amazing to me. Some of my friends was blown away when they heard how realistic and powerful these speakers sounds for it's size. It definitely made a huge hole in my wallet for a few months but it's the best I can get with the limited space I have available to me and they sound so good that I will keep them for a very long time so the investment will last a long time for me.

    Hey Peter, very nice review. Question for you, between the phantom reactor and sonos 5, which has better sound quality? Money aside... which do you think sounds more clear? And is the difference really worth the extra $1000? I'm looking to stream Master quality hi res audio from tidal. Thank you!!

  • @PeterPee

    @PeterPee

    If you want to stream MQA from Tidal, the Sonos won't cut it. The Phantom yes you can do hi-res. The difference is another matter, I am just commenting from the streaming capability point of view. If you ask me, price aside, I'd get the Phantom Reactor. The bass is godly. But then you asked about whether it is worth the extra $1K, no it is not.

Few days ago they offered me two Devialet phantom II 98db and I am wondering before unpacking them if I should turn them back or connect to the existing Sonos system. If I connect them am I gonna messing up the quality of sound? Are they compatible with Sonos? Are they louder than Sonos 5s? Shall I use the credit and buy something else? Thank you for your time

    Hi Peter, I know it's kind of late for comment but I like your opinion on the reactor now called phantom 2. It's freq response goes all the way to 18hz which is subwoofer territory. Would it be possible to use it as a subwoofer with a soundbar? You can use a rca to 3.5mm cable or even 3.5 to 3.5 like in the bose 900. So the phantom now has 2 functions. A sub and a Bluetooth speaker. Can that work? Thanks!

    I have been wondering, should I get a Sonos Sub or a Sonos Beam? I have a stereo pair of Sonos One's and I want to connect them to my TV. To do so currently, I use AirPlay 2 to broadcast a stereo signal to my Sonos pair from my Apple TV. This works for movie, youtube and obviously music. However, it does not work for gaming and there is a strange latency and problems with consistency. If I could, I would buy the entire Sonos line but that's not in my budget. I have to choose between great bass or a great surround sound system that lacks in bass. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Galasity

    If the reactors are $300 each, I’d get a pair of them. They are great little Soeakers. But bear in mind you will only get stereo. For music, they will perform incredibly well. If you are only into movies, then get the arc although I don’t think it is as great a value as the reactors at $300 each.

    Great review overall, except one thing!!!?!?!!! The phantom is not a push-pull setup. both go out or both go in. This is what is so special about this speaker. It can do this without destroying itself!! This leads to cancelation at the speaker, so it barely even vibrates!! It also leads to internal pressures over 1000lbs and giant simulated volumes inside the speaker, hence the very crazy bass. Very impressive accomplishment!

Currently, it works as powerful background music for WFH.

    I thought it was 5.5! That bass in every speaker. They don't tell you what is included. 5 Reactors (600W 5000USD, 900W 6500USB) that leaves 4000USB for the connecting and controlling bits. I assume some USB/Multi socket to five Toslink outputs for 5 speakers but then where is the 5+1 sub woofer output being sent? Web site says there is a way of using Phantom Gold but Devialet support say Golds are stereo only. Three Golds and two Reactors (or basic Phantoms) would make for a more sensible cost solution. Surround carries a lot in centre and subwoofer and stereo in the left and right channels. The rear are usually sonic placement. Costs are into where Meridian basically start off at 2000GBP for a single M6.

    I can't speak to the Reactors .. I've got a pair of gold phantoms and and loads of Sonos gear. Devialet really screwed their software recently but just recently it's all come good. I use Roon to drive my devices if I'm listing to my local library or a high def stream. Recently Sonos have started supporting FLAC for your local library but you are not going to get hi-def streaming. I think you are really misleading you viewers if you don't cover the signal processing side ... you're only telling part of the story. I'll also take a poke at the Sonos apps .. they aren't that good. It can only index a tiny local library and it is effectively a lowest common denominator feature set to the various streaming services. Devialet focus on the high end of the market, Sonos on the mid to low end. ... obviously you're going to pay more for the reactors even though they're the bottom of the Devialet range. If the foundation to your entire review is some arbitrary percentage volume setting and not audio quality I can't see how you justify your frankly insulting conclusion!
