A lot of teams needed this draft, besides us. So a lot of teams got better as well. My only concern is how well our moves pay off. Like the eagles. Letting them get Mitchell and Dejean is kinda crazy. And even if we make it out of the NFC, teams like the Chiefs who were allowed to pick up Worthy are there. I mean, we still might even have to contend with the Bears of all teams out of nowhere after the offensive offseason they’ve had lol. It’s going to be a wild year and I’m excited.

You have to remember. Next year is when the Lions are going to start running up against the cap. Carlton Davis is a nice player. But its unlikely they can afford to keep him next year. As Decker, Goff and Alim Mcneil are all free agents. So taking both CB's along with Branch last year. Means they have the DB 's cost controlled for several years. I don't think it's wrong or right. It's all subjective nonsense, none of us know how a player is going to "grade out" until they hit the field and we give them time to develop. Much like the draft itself, grading a draft is taking on gamble on which players we think will have higher ceilings/floors. Do you really give a shit about draft grades? I don't. I care about whether or not my team wins.

Oh, no! The Lions DID NOT think they might have goofed in getting Terrion Arnold. Far from it. They have acknowledged that he was their top defensive player on the board. The reasons for getting Rakestraw are several: 1) you can almost predict - you can almost assume - that there's going to be some injury in the defensive backfield. They suffered several key injuries last year and they were caught not having enough depth back there; 2) Rakestraw was graded as their 2nd best corner - why not double down? Holmes double downed on his first draft with DT's (Alim McNeill & Onzuriweke (sp?)); he tripled down on his 2nd draft with Hutchinson, Paschal & Houston at DE; while he didn't double down in his 3rd draft, he signed 3 DB's in free agency. Brad Holmes certainly attacks his weaknesses with a number of players; 3) the CB's they obtained during free agency are only signed for a year or two. They are looking towards the future with Rakestraw, as well as a number of their other picks.

I wanted the team draft an interior O-line guy with one of the first two picks but truthfully, after that mini-rush on tackles and guards prior to the Lions picking in round two the value wasn't really there. And they needed a long-term answer at CB. Davis has one year left on his deal and Robinson signed a two-year deal but beyond that the cupboard is bare. Mosley is a crap-shoot and the rest of the guys are PS level players at best. We are okay at safety, provided they can re-sign Joseph and Iffy but CB was a short and long-term need, thanks in no small part to Sutton being such a train-wreck, on and off the field. I don't think Davis is coming back, not with Goff and McNeil needing to get paid. Two young guys with complimentary skills is just what the doctor ordered. I didn't like them giving up next years third on a project out of Canada but the guy is a house and I feel better about him than I do about Martin who was such a reach Brad must have pulled his shoulder clean out his socket. Vaki is the one who interests me. I like that the team pays close attention to special teams and that guy may be the next Steve Tasker kind of player. And don't sleep on Wingo. Kid has heart and he won't be asked to do too much in year one. Mahogony is the next starting guard for the team after this season, bank on that.

Couldn’t agree more and with the way Brad was working to move up I would guess he tried but couldn’t make it work for a reasonable price. My only complaint is I would have loved to see us add someone to replace Josh, I know we have DPJ that has great length and 50/50 ball skills to go with Amon and Jami’s speed but I worry about what happens if we lose Amon or Jamo to injury? I don’t think our pass rush was that bad in the second half of the season but our secondary just got picked apart so quickly every play.

Ive heard that Arnold was their top defensive player on their draft board and ot was a position of need kind of, not withstanding what they did in FA. I also heard that both GB wantsd Arnold along with Tampa so jumping in front of those 2 teams and getting the best defensive player on your draft board and preventing your biggest rival from getting him was well worth giving up a 3rd round pick and i it strenthens the biggest weakness they had last year. Ig we had this secondary last year we would have beeen in and maybe even won the SB. In fact lions have strengthened all their weaknesses from last year. Definitely an A draft

I grade the Lions a B or B+ on the strength of the players they picked. The plus is for getting lucky and drafting players that are falling below their consensus grade deep in a round. I think a C grade a bit too low. I’m a Lions fan so if the grade had been A++ because you get what they are doing I would smile and be ok with that too!

Relative to the consensus board. I get that's the best info non-nfl teams have. But the argument here is flawed about a steal and a reach. First off, when a team "reaches" the public had no idea if teams behind them in the draft order would have selected them or not. You're dealing with incomplete data. Second, there obviously are steals. There may be injury concerns with a player and that's why the player falls but you're telling me Puka Nacua, Amon Ra St. Brown, Brock Purdy aren't steals? Again I get what you're trying to say but with the incomplete data as NFL teams don't publish their rankings, and how there are reasons why a player falls separate from ability, I just don't agree.

Brad said he started making calls as soon all the defensive players fell out of the top-10. Who knows, he may have tried to grab Latu or Turner but the price may have been too high. I was hoping he'd make a move for Byron Murphy when he was still out there at 16 but that didn't work. That Wingo kid they drafted out of LSU in the 6th round might add some rotational pop to the line. If "The Problem" can return to 2022 form they should be better. McNeil was on his way to 10 sacks before he got hurt and with Reader lining up next to him teams aren't going to be able to put a guard and center on him like they were doing later in the season. I think they'll be better but hey, I was screaming for a Max Crosby trade because Mad Max and Hutch would have been insane.

DJ reader was a great pick up and Wingo is going to be an edge for the most part If you listened to Brad Holmes talking about that pick…. So idk wtf you smoking but our pass rush will still be better than when we had the Okwara bros and Charles Harris……. I mean the guys we already brought in alone have a higher ceiling….
