    I have to disagree with the connotation of "we're chasing curls". Literally EVERY OTHER hair texture gets to enjoy their natural hair shape but when an unambiguous "type 4" natural does it, somehow we get labeled as either anti black or a curl chaser 😂 I was born with kinks and coils....how am I chasing what I already have? Type 3 girlies have to do the exact same method during a wash and go for their own shape to pop. Are people calling them "curl chasers"? Can't we also say the same for people rocking twist outs and braid outs then? I guess I don't understand where that idea comes from.

    People have said that before about those who only do their hair in twist outs and braid outs. I think people should style their hair the way they want it. There's nothing wrong with wanting definition and curls, but people need to be honest. Type 3 curls are visible even in their driest state. We have to work much harder to see some definition. When our hair is dry and without product, we don't see our curls because they are too tight, so if we put so much effort into seeing those curls that we don't normally see, we are actually chasing for curls, but is that so wrong? To each his own.

    I’m not a curly girl by Hair Community definitions. I AM natural, and have been for 8/9 years now. I don’t “type” my hair because I don’t need that. My hair curls up anytime water or water-based products are introduced to it. When I was relaxed, applying gel would cause hella ripples, and people would comment about my texture or “grade” of hair (whatever that means)? My objective with my hair is, and has solely been understanding what my hair needs to be it’s healthiest! I am not interested in the least, to “show” others that my hair curls???? Like; I don’t need or understand that. I’m not about to load my hair down with three to four products to make it “look” like those curls are “natural” if the current process is required to make it do that?! I guess if you “want your curls defined” you can want that. I will never buy a $20 product intended to define curls I already know that I have. I also don’t get buying a product intended to stop MY hair from “shrinking” as it’s meant to do, just to show length? We can say all day that these “curl-highlighting techniques and lengthening desires” are not due to societal standards but I don’t think that’s altogether the truth. My hair is THE BEST it’s ever been, now that I no longer chemically alter it. I don’t even like the Wash-n-Go look! That’s not MY cup of tea…. Too too much!

    @@Miranda-gi9fx I think what people mean by "chasing curls" is that we are trying to achieve a look that type 3 girls already have (naturally). We are not chasing curls because we are just trying to define what we already have. I really like my curl pattern but I'd like to see more of it by doing wash n gos!

    I remember when I did my first WnG way back in 2008. I swore I would never do it again, but I found myself doing another WnG the very next week. I've been doing them consistently ever since. It took me about 6 weeks to get it to a point where I was happy with it. The biggest part of the learning curve for me was getting the kinky-curly application down. Now 20 - 30 min in the shower plus a good shake and diffuse and I'm done. It gets better if you choose to stick with it. I don't think there is any reason to chase curls. If we are working with type 4 hair we have the amount of coil that we have depending on whether we are 4A, 4B, or 4C. It should be just about healthy hydrated hair and accepting whatever level of kink, coil, or curl we have however it turns out. All of the type 4 hair textures are going to look different and all of them are beautiful. Adding a gel to wet hair doesn't change the natural pattern it only captures it. Also if your preferred style is twist outs and braid outs those can be done as well with mousse instead of gel.

    Most ppl use the curly magic and ICH because that's the desired finish they want with more definition and more weight and hold. If you want more volume day 1, softer feel and less definition you can experiment with mousse as topper instead of ICH. Fo adunni has a great video with her results use mousse def for her wash and go's. I would check it out!

    Shaking your hair more vigorously (left, right, front and back) would’ve gotten rid of extra water and helped separate the root to allow better drying.

  • @vanessadh3939
    @vanessadh39393 жыл бұрын

    You did a good job, but I did notice that there still wasnt enough water used during the ICH application. At that point, if you're gonna be outside of the shower, you can use a spray bottle. It'll make it spread better. With ICH, you dont need more products, you'll need more water. Thats it. You should hear it squish. Also, I saw during the separating that there definitely wasnt enough of either product on your roots. But, as you said, it's such a learning process. But, the process really isn't about chasing curls. You can also just do a wash and fro or use the recommended cream styler with little to no hold. Or a twist out with the mousse. You can create all the styles you want without the raw oils and butters. But the process helps you learn how YOUR hair behaves with different products and application and you'll know better what it feels like when it has enough product on it and when it has enough water in it. It's really changed the game for me! I've never used raw oils and butters, so I didnt feel that withdrawal. But learning how my hair behaves... game changing. My wash n go's look very much like a twist out would for me and takes less time. This method is about reclaiming your time as well. There are so many benefits!

My hair is really healthy and no over shedding and breakage. Only takes 30 minutes. I usually put conditioning on it when I have extra time for like 15 minutes. 😁 I do out detangler on and comb through really quick. Rinse, glob gel on and SHAKE just like a doggie.

    I cut my hair in February buzz cut (due to products triggering migraine) and was surprised to see the diversity of textures on my own head, truly! I started trying this method of hair care due to its simplicity and the possibility of a style enduring an entire week, which I never had. Despite the many ups and downs - I'm still learning - I can say that I resist the urge to compare my hair to others. What I can also say...is that my previous insistence *and identity* with my kinks looking a certain way, caused me to not want to embrace them if and when they started looking different. I don't have to be the kink martyr. I need to accept my hair for whatever it is. That includes if I cut my own 4c hair and it suddenly looks maaaad different, including curly.

    When she said chasing curls, I think Jenn was referring to defined curls. Some naturals love defined curls associated with wash and gos and some don't mind a regular fro which is typically undefined for 4B/4C hair but could still be just as hydrated as a defined wash and go.

    Hi, but the fact that people not just you say that they are already there when hair is wet is not an argument to me because wet hair add a lot of weight to our hair so wet hair does not represent our true texture. People with curly hair or wavy have straight hair when their hair is wet because the weight of the water elongates their curls to the max. So it's weird to think that wet hair represents our true texture. Anyway n the end people should do whatever they want to do.... Just a thought

    If anything is more so the connotation behind the idea of “chasing a curl” as if it’s bad to want definition. Over the years I’ve gone from loving to look like uncooked ramen to appreciating a good mix of fizz(really just less product) to add volume. Like if we’re being real the fact you put anything other than water on your hair is chasing a curl either for definition or manageability ( twist or other stretching methods) and I said what I said.

    heyy hun try applying the gels in sections. Its better especially for thick 4c. You can wash it loose but gel stage even 4 sections help. When I finish adding the two gels I go back in and seperate the curls. This has helped improve my outcome tremendously that way the defintion starts all way at the root. Wash and go is looking better and better. 😊 Try a hair buff instead of a bonnet. It’ll preserve your wash and go or braid/twist out much better. I think you could probably get it down to 2 hrs. I’ve been doing it since Jan and I still haven’t gotten down to 1 hour. I average about 2 hrs. That’s worth it to me to be done and able to go out with a style in that amount time as opposed to a twist out that took me about the same amount of time but I had to let dry for like 12 hrs before I had a style. 😂

    I love your hair texture! Your hair shrinkage looks beautiful on my opinion☺️ a little tip from Jennifer rose if you don’t want to shake your head before setting it is to take a paper towel & just gently squeeze the water out. Also, if you want more volume, she recommends hair spray; you also could try it with volumizing mousse instead of gel: I’ve heard of different combos: gel and mousse or just mousse so maybe you might want to try them out too. If the hair still isn’t dry after the hooded dryer, I’ve seen Them go in with a diffuser at the roots to speed up the process. When you master the wash n go, I would love to see you try either a twist out or braid out with a wrap foam.

    I do a wash and go every morning utilizing uncle funkys daughter curly magic. I have 4C hair and same amount as you. My suggestion is: I do everything in the shower, so my bathroom is not left messy. Soak your hair first, wash, rinse out, then add leave-in conditioner first (TGIN Rx) before applying uncle funkys daughter gel (that way you won't use as much). Rake the product through your hair to evenly distribute and add water whenever you get a snag or dry and keep working product in hair with water...then bend over and shake your head vigorously from left to write and flip back up and your done. Then proceed to wash the rest of your body. In total my hair routine takes 5mins tops then I step out the shower and get dressed and go. My hair dries throughout the day. I usually drive with my windows down on my way to work and my hair will be about 30%-40% dry by the time I get to work and will continue to dry by the end of the day. If you want to speed up the drying process I usually just use my blow dryer with my head tilted down amd start the drying process....or if I have time I'll sit under the drying for a little while then finish with hair dryer quickly just to dry up the soaking water.. my hair will still be somewhat wet when I leave my house but that's perfectly alright with me in the hot summer. That's what I do and I find it very easy to do my hair every morning in the summer. In the winter I do protective styles.

    Great video! I tried the no oils and butters for a month and decided to go back to my oils (I never used butters). I just like the way my hair feels with a tiny bit of oil. It felt dry without it. I only do wash n gos. My staple gels have been flaxseed gel and Curly Magic as a topper. But I tried not using flaxseed and used only Curly Magic and I Create Hold during my no oil and butter experiment and my hair was ok, but not as defined as it normally is, and my wash n gos just didn't last long....I was even washing my hair before 5 days sometimes. So just last week I returned to using flaxseed gel and girl...I don't think I will ever leave it again! My hair is super defined with flaxseed gel and Curly Magic. I even used a light coating of I Create Hold on top of the two gels and my hair is super defined and has so much hold. I think I will be able to have a 2 week wash n go again! I was watching some old videos of some OG naturals when certain oils were popular and one of them was saying how some oils don't sit on top...then penetrate the hair. So shouldn't those types of oils be good for our hair? Well, I am sticking to my oils. Just not the heavy ones that I think may cause build up.
