Design a Minimalist Goal & Habit System Built for Success

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to create a minimalist system for regular habits that will get you to your goals? This is what you should be working on instead of thinking about it backwards. Eventually, it always comes down to the little things we do daily, so it's the best place to start. In this video I present my method of planning your habit and goal system like an absolute minimalist as well as three strategies for success with whatever you choose to commit to - environment design, habit-reward systems and choosing a keystone habit. Now you can design your own minimal goal and habit system for success using the worksheet below!

Think in terms of a process- a series of steps to reach a goal. You can make continuous improvements in your life by developing new good habits. If you can discipline yourself to do something for 2-3 weeks it will become a habit. With that action under automatic control, you can move to the next step.

2:01 Write your Health goals? If you focus on Systems, why do you still care about goals ? I don't know if we are misled. I'd been a Goals person, and I read Atomic habits. This felt significant. The book has great content like motion vs action, how to break bad habits and build good ones, but it doesn't eliminate the need for goals. James says the goal is not to read a book, the goal is to become a reader. The goal is not to learn instrument, the goal is to become a musician. So, my question is there is still need goals ? James doesn't explain system of becoming a musician or system of becoming a reader. I feel incontent about this.in this context, I want to read/listen to books that explain the system to become a reader.

  • @AntoniatheUniverse

Dear Mahesh, you are absolutely correct, this is a little bit confusing. In my opinion we do need goals, but they are not the main point, they are just the end destination. What we really need to work so much harder on is making ourselves an easy path to achieving these goals, with all kinds of help along the way i.e. trackers, timers, environment. We should set goals for sure, ones that basically are the definition of for example what being a reader or a musician would mean to us. Maybe that means to you that you will be reading 50 books per year, you could define that as a goal and from then on just do the very best to get there with the tools you have in your hands. I wish you lots of luck in the new year and thank you so much for this thoughtful comment!

I also had this question for weeks and came to the realization that one needs the other. Goals serve as targets to which we want to direct our efforts, Systems are the series of steps we have to take to reach those targets. You can't direct effort if you don't have a specific target you aiming at and you can't reach the target if you don't direct your effort towards it, in other words you need set goals in order to create systems and you need to create systems in order to achieve your goals.

I think you are misleading people or you are confused yourself. There's a saying in Hinduism that is one should focus on actions or process to achieve that goal. Not on the goal or system itself as it can be altered by factors.

  • @AntoniatheUniverse

Yes, semantics can definitely be confusing, but I was focusing on what James Clear offers in his book Atomic Habits as a reference here. I believe there are many ways to do have a successful system for your life and probably one or two will work for each person, so it's definitely trial and error. Thank you so much for the constructive critique! I wish you a lovely new year 😊
