Depression and its treatment

Around one in every 10 people will suffer from depression. Brain regions that control mood are often disrupted in depression. Antidepressant drugs or behavioral therapy can offer some relief. By understanding the brain better, our ability to treat depression should also get a boost.
Watch the video to learn about the neural circuits affected in depression, and the molecular and cellular changes that might hold the key to treating it. Created by the editors at Nature Neuroscience: www.nature.com/...

Alex, Meditation is the only permanent cure for depression because it reprogrammes the mind. . Enter "Alternate nostril breathing meditation videos' on Google search and watch the video. Do this simple meditation for 10-15 minutes early morning and night. You can also sit on a chair and do it. Read the benefits of alternate nostril breathing on Google search. . Lot of thoughts will come initially but anxiety will vanish in a few days. Continue the meditation daily. Best wishes.Shyaaam Sir--Life Coach.

@@Doctor_stunning 20 years back I suffered and today I am enjoyng life. Only if depression affects your internal health you must see a psychologist. Heal yourself. I have also been doing the following method the most simple way to reprogramme your subconscious mind. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety-stress. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes. Be as still as possible. Many thoughts will come which is ok--slowly negative thoughts will reduce and your mind will relax. During your daily activity keep observing your breath consciously. Best part is mood swings also reduce. Do the above meditation daily to feel relaxed. For more relaxation enter the following on google search and listen before sleep repeating the affirmations for 10 minutes in your mind. -“52Hz affirmations for health and healing you tube”. You will get relief quickly. Best wishes. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

Depression has really taken a toll on my intellectual capacity and memory capabilities, so this makes sense for the most part. Exercise really helps me relax, as does meditation and just about anything that distracts me. As this video states, most antidepressants take time to benefit its patients, therefore in my opinion, consistency with natural remedies is crucial for results.

I just want you to know that Jesus cares and He loves you more than you could ever possibly know. He wants to help you, but you have to open your heart to Him, He will not force Himself into your life. I am sharing my best friend's story to help you learn how to have real peace and joy in your life. God bless you. Precious Memories-By Sonya Lakey Family Story Little did our family of six know that Friday evening, September 24th, 2021, would be the last night our family would be complete. We laughed together, played games, sang, and enjoyed listening as our 16-year-old son, Ethan, played the piano for us. I packed a lunch for Ethan for a church mountain hike he was going on the following day. My mother (who was visiting from out of state) and I woke early with Ethan on Saturday morning. He hugged me and smiled, never pulling away or rushing me. He got in the car, waved, said he'd see me later and he loved me. It was hard to watch my "new driver" heading out on his own that morning. As Ethan pulled out of the gate, I turned to my mother and said, "It's just so hard letting go." Little did I know how much "letting go" I was really doing. That was the last time I saw Ethan. He did not make it home that evening. That afternoon, a friend tried to contact my husband, leaving an urgent message to call him back. He tried several times to return the call to no avail. As we were preparing supper, an overwhelming feeling of deep concern for Ethan filled my heart. I quietly blinked back tears. I glanced out the window, half expecting to see a police officer pull up to the house, but no one arrived. However, within a few minutes, a patrol car DID pull into the driveway. In my heart, I feared the worst. My husband and I went out to meet the officer, who confirmed our fears. Hesitantly, he told us our son had fallen off of a bluff and had succumbed to his injuries. Our hearts were crushed; they still are. Yet, in all of our brokenness, deep, continual grief and loneliness, our family has such a blessed Hope and assurance that we will see our dear son and brother again. You see, when Ethan was a young boy, he was saved; he put his faith in Jesus alone to forgive his sins and to take him to Heaven when he died. He realized some very important truths from the Bible that he would want to share with you. His Story Everyone is a sinner. Sin is any violation of God’s Law. God is holy, just and righteous, and He cannot allow sin in His presence. Ethan realized that he - like all of us - had sinned; and his sin separated Him from God. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; ” (Romans 3:23) “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12) He understood that, because of his sin, he deserved to spend eternity in Hell. “For the wages of sin is death;” (Romans 6:23a) [Wages: price] “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8) Ethan believed that Jesus, God’s Son, paid the price for all sin when He died on the cross - because His sinless sacrifice was the only thing that could satisfy the just demands of a righteous, holy God. Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb, but He arose the third day, triumphant over sin, death, and Hell. Jesus is alive today! “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Ethan was sorry for his sin, repented (turned), and received by faith the free gift that God offered to him. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b) Because of this great salvation, Ethan lived his life serving Jesus. He worked hard to spread this Good News to the world. He is alive in Heaven with Jesus today; and because of this great HOPE in Christ, we know we will see him again soon - not because he was a great kid, but because of his faith in the great Saviour! “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28) Your Story What about you? What if you had fallen to your death that day - What if you were to die today? Where will you spend eternity - Heaven or the Lake of Fire? There will not be any parties in the Lake of Fire. It is a place of eternal torment for those who reject God's Son. The Word of God is very clear that there is only One Way to Heaven. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) We did not know that Ethan would step into eternity that day; however, because he put his faith in Jesus alone for his salvation, Ethan was ready to go. Some day - perhaps today - you will take your last breath here on earth, and you will step into eternity. Where you spend eternity is determined by what you do with Jesus Christ. Will you accept Him or reject Him? You are not promised another day or another breath. Eternity begins soon - Are you ready? “...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” (Acts 16:31b) “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “(...behold, now is the day of salvation.)” (2 Corinthians 6:2c) ****************************** This testimony has been made into a gospel tract. If you or your Church would be interested in passing them out or if you would like to send a word of encouragement to the family, please go to: facebook.com/GITM-Foundation-113997824650357/

@@firstvisual5404 I don't know why so late, but your comment just came through on my phone. I am so sorry that your friend committed suicide. That is a very hard thing to take. Suicide has affected my family as well. I Just want you to know that what you are experiencing is a spiritual attack. You need to ask the Holy Spirit to literally deliver you from the evil that wants to destroy you. You have to let the Lord be strong for you, you can't do it on your own. The best thing you can do is start reading out loud and focus on Scripture (meditate on what the words mean). That is the weapon God has given us against evil. Ephesians 6, Psalm 22, 23, John 17 and anything else from the King James Bible. If you don't usually use that version, I would encourage you to just try it. There is power in the King James Bible even online.....youtube helps, but you need to engage your mind on the Words. You could just read in a whisper if you want, but say them. God will strengthen your heart as you put your trust and hope in His Words. Yes, it does take a little bit of energy, but if you are consistent with it every time you feel that heaviness, the results will amaze you. Here are some good verses to start with: Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. Psalm 119:28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word. Isaiah 42:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Also psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (not CCM, that is another deception of the devil and does not please God) that are direct praise to God can be an effective way to resist the devil. My favorite chapter in the Bible is Psalm139. I like to take and put my name in each verse where it says I, me, my etc. It just personalized it that much more for me. Isaiah 61: 1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, THE GARMENT OF PRAISE FOR THE SPIRIT OF HEAVINESS; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. This is a story a lady shared once when asked how she got through her struggle with suicide. I hope it is a help to you. "It was only by God's love, grace and longsuffering. I remember thinking that no one wanted me (except my mom), and that they'd be so much happier without me. Dad's family didn't like me at all, and I was such a nuisance to my siblings. I knew my mom loved me; but I figured she wouldn't miss me very long, and I was positive no one else would miss me -- they'd be so glad they didn't have to fuss with me anymore. I was hurting, feeling so unloved, unwanted and unnecessary, and I was crying so hard. I just wanted to be in Heaven. I pulled my waist-length hair around my neck as tight as I could and held it there until I started to black out. At that moment, it was as though the Holy Spirit whispered to me, "What are you doing?" I know it was the Lord, because I felt immediate conviction. And I was sorry, so sorry, that I had even considered it. I begged the Lord to forgive me. Looking back, I know the devil was trying to destroy me... he came to steal, kill and destroy.... and he started the attacks when I was a child. But God, GOD Himself stepped in and showed me HIS love for me, even though I didn't believe anyone else (except Mom) loved me at all. Perhaps I wasn't worth anything to any of the people I knew and loved, but I was worth every drop of blood that Jesus shed on the cross. Jesus loved me. I found my worth in HIM." And it takes the love that only God can give .....and accepting that love....to overcome the actual lies that get into our heads and hearts. Also, I would love for you to join us on our live stream service tomorrow night at Liberty Faith Church at 7 o'clock CST and on Sunday at 9:45am & 7pm. prince prince Wrong! You Can overcome depression but it takes a lot of work, day in and day out, having faith in God and getting a support system around you and literally changing the way you think. Recognizing that depression is there, having good and bad days, but refusing to let it control you! You can do it!

Depression can be so hard to deal with. It’s a day to day battle which can consume our lives completely. Those who don’t understand can say the wrong words and make the feelings of alone higher. Remember that with the right tools, support and understanding, you can gain control over your depression. Replace medication with meditation. I offer anyone who feels alone to get in touch anytime! Never feel alone. You have my support, advice and words of encouragement from my channel. Big hug and stay strong and awesome :)

Since last year when I lost my grandparents and my sister I’ve just not been feeling like myself anymore. And I miss it because at this point I just cry everyday and sleep the rest. Im really tired and I just wanna wake up one day and feel amazing for the rest of my life. But I know it’s not that simple. I hope it gets better eventually but I don’t know how :/

I just want you to know that Jesus cares what you are going through and He loves you more than you could ever possibly know. No one knows when it can strike. A mixture of anxiety and depression goes around in a circle. One begets the other and the cycle is hard to break. My tips for overcoming it are to sleep only at night and keep busy all day long. Knitting, reading, doing diy - fill every single minute of your day. Yes, you will feel nothing for weeks, but keep taking your meds and things will get easier. Don't wait until you need ect as it will destroy your memory. I had it and yes it worked, but there is a price to pay. Some people will never understand depression as they will never succumb to it. How lucky they are! Depression is a cycle and you will come out of it. Be kind to yourself - it is an illness, and don't worry about what people say. You are what matters. Believe in yourself......You will be free one day. God bless!

I remember my life before depression and social anxiety. Happy, outgoing, dreams and goals in life, loved people and social life, full of energy and I almost never got tired. Then the negative stuff happened and I lost all will to live. Everything is so hard, I have no energy and all I want is to sleep in bed all day. I don't want anything to do with people, especially in groups. I don't want to end myself, but I don't mind if a landslide took my house and me with me into oblivion 😑

Its called getting old. Maybe you lived a lot and that living, as great as it was, took its toll. You're not alone. I have done a of things, worked out hard and bicycled hard, had my share of girlfriends, etc. Everything comes to an end in this world. Its damned heroic to cope with life's ravages. Take pride in yourself.

I've been depressed since I was 8, I'm currently 15. When I tell my friends that I've been depressed for so long and I don't have the energy to fight anymore, they answer with "you have been depressed for a couple of years, that's not long. I know people who are 100 and they have been depressed all their life, so stop" I try to tell them "that's the thing. I don't want to live to 100 and realise my life has been pointless, I want to end it all right now" Sorry for making anyone sad by writing this but I really need to vent

Lazy Koala my depression is erratic. I've had depression ever since I was about 8 years old, and now I am 18. Most of it started with heartbreak when I was 13 and it took me years just to get over that person, but then stress from school blew over me. School conditions were so harsh I decided to start skipping just because I felt there was no other way to escape the crowd of kids that would not understand me or judge me for acting differently or looking like skeleton. But shortly after my school realized I missed 5 days within a semester (half a school year) and tried to sue me and my parents for truancy, which would have been a total of a $17,500 fine for missing 5 days of school which was bullshit but so stressful. The only choice I had was to drop out of school. Now over a year later, I still haven't done anything concerning my education. My social life dropped down the drain, and I almost never go outside unless I am heading to the gas station to get some food for my cats. Now I am no longer stressed and not as lonely as I thought I would normally have been, but something else gets at me. I think I have some kind of issue in my head that prohibits me from practically enjoying anything. I can't watch TV, or play the piano. I can't even make music which I told myself for years I would become the biggest and greatest if I just tried. It's almost like I no longer want to try if I already know what the solution will be. Eventually time will pass, much much faster than I will ever expect it to. I don't know whether I should trust my instincts to do most basic human activities anymore. Sometimes I like to pretend that I can just stop breathing and exhale for as long as possible. And sometimes I like to research what the absolute worst forms of torture are just so that I can feel glad that nothing similar will happen to me. All I know is that there are three routes my life will take. Either I will somehow overcome my sickness and venture to my life goals throughout the unknown, I will end up on the same path and homeless and probably suffer for the rest of my life, or I will end up committing suicide because I will never be able to solve my complicated fear of every decision I make having endless consequences. I just find it a miracle that I have never used drugs or alcohol to try to temporarily solve my sadness. I just don't want to rely on something to feel happy. That's all I guess I can say for now, I know I am not the brightest there is and that my thoughts randomly jumble and become confusing.

Try sleeping in a very dark room, that's what I've started doing - I think the constant feeling of being tired is linked to melatonin, deep sleep is so important, I listened to a great Joe Rogan podcast about sleep and it was very informative and interesting, I'm so just to leaving a TV on or looking at a phone screen so my brain probably isn't releasing melatonin as much as it should be, I've completely blacked out my window now and I keep my phone and tv off - in fact I plug out my tv and turn off my phone, if I get my eating right and start to exorcise then I can beat it, I seen someone comment earlier about the epidemic of depression in western civilisation and it's so true, tribe members don't get depressed - that's a fact - there's even a Tedtalks about that, check it out and the Joe Rogan podcast, peace.

Feeling sad? That's how you describe a symptom? No no sad is an every day feeling. Oh you dropped a sock how sad? No. You wake up and you go through the day and nothing inspires you. You want to do things but you just can't for some reason. And everyone is saying you're making it up but you know you're not. It's not like a hug can make you feel excited. No you have no emotion. Maybe a momentary lapse out of this ridiculous fog but it goes away right when you think "oh maybe I'm ok". It's like a fog. A void. Murky water. It's like running in water with no visibility and the muffled sounds echoing around you. Your senses are dulled and useless. And then some asshole says you have to make it out of this hell or you will die in ten minutes. So you're sprinting in hip high, murky, polluted water, surrounded by a dense fog. You can't see, you can't hear and so you panic because you have no clue what is going on. And right when you get to the point of giving up that is when you hit depression.

My memory is diluted, I have zero motivation to get off my ass...even making a sandwich for my child is a challenge. Everything is just exhausting and too much for me to handle. The worst part is that unless you deal with this demon yourself, you have no idea what it's like....and those people, like, parents, friends and other loved ones who try to "help" just make my depression worse bc then I feel like I've failed them. It's a tough battle and I'm so tired of it.

The pleasure it initially gave now seems like a poison that was injected into me . On the other side i believe that this journey is really hardest and tough chosen only for people capable of handling it. Its like walking through the fire daily .

Start to accept sadness when it occurs and you will step by step understand how our nature works. It's a natural feeling. The thing is not to put layers after layers of different labels on that sad thought. Let go and just watch them, don't make them a part of you. Your thoughts are not some physical predators in real life, no one knows what you are thinking, you don't HAVE to do this and that, you WANT to do what ever you want. Sometimes it helps to just stop and really start to pull that real you forward and watch yourself like a movie.

Glad they mentioned ketamine. Nothing else worked for me. Only change from 20 yrs of traditional treatment was an extreme decline in hormones. ( thyroid, testosterone, vitamin d levels, adrenals, along with CKD) And I eat a perfect diet. But from what I've read, Ketamine very little side effects & extremely high success rates. Hard part is to get a doctor & insurance to allow it.

I am in no way dismissing the reality of a true diagnosis of depression/ mental illness, but most people are not truly depressed. Although, living in this crazy world can definitely bring one down if rumination sets in.

My mum works ALL THE TIME and she doesn't speak to me at all as she has no time for it. But I didn't mind, at least I tried not to, because I know I shouldn't be selfish and she's doing her best for the family. Until one day our maid brought her little daughter to our house and stay with us. I wouldn't see it as a problem... If my mum didn't so suddenly become very talkative to the child. She now spends her free time mostly with the child. I know she likes little children, but it hurts to know that her own daughter cannot make her happy when somebody else's can. Yet when my mum and I go out together, we don't talk at all still, because we don't know what we should talk about; we now know so little about each other and I can only tell her very important things like education or stuff. I really feel like a robot these days and it's driving me crazy. It's stressing me out :(

Trust me it was rough. Still is, but I think I have gotten used to it. I finally talked to her about it (which made me end up burst out crying even though I meant to talk calmly), she said of course she loves me more. However that didn't change anything much; she still spends a lot of time with the child even now as I'm typing this in my room. My mom now lets the child call her 'mom' lol. I think our maid can see the uneasiness in me and she seems to be apologetic, but my mom keeps telling her it's alright. Our maid is a nice person though so I don't blame her. The only thing that's changed is me, I guess. I don't care much about it now and so it hurts me less.

I overcame my depression through the use of psychedelic drugs. I’ve battled with depression daily since I was in middle school and after one LSD trip my depressive thoughts just disappeared. I saw the irrationality of my own thoughts and behaviors during that experience and that I was completely capable of reforming myself. It’s been four months since and my depression hasn’t returned. I truly believe that these drugs have underestimated therapeutic properties that are either unknown or are being purposely obscured by doctors and pharmaceutical companies.

Not good man... there are a lot of kids on here... I know you mean well, but psychedelic drugs aren't the answer. Most of the people in here need a life mission. A reason to live and something to be passionate about. Has nothing to do with drugs. Drugs only delay the inevitable. You can create the drugs naturally within your mind without drugs and without the harmful side effects. You shouldn't be going around promoting psychedelic drugs though, there are a lot of kids in here!

2018 has been the hardest year for me, I attempted suicide 3 times and ended up in a mental hospital, my depression gave me a bad weed addiction and led me to popping pills, cocaine and alcoholism. Later this year I quit. I’ve been taking meds for 6 months now, I’ve been on Ketamine and lots of self therapy, I’m much better now, also I tried LSD once and it helped my depression so much somehow (don’t abuse tough). Looking back it’s crazy to see how hopeless I was, please stay strong you’ll get through this believe me, fight back you got this.

(yoga you can start alone and then end up doing it with others) - so this is a perfect one to choose. Use it as a social connection to get you around those great people! Yoga is great as it flushes all the bad energy, and sweat runs through your system, cleansing your body. If you ever want to shake it up to another level... and you just want to take a chance at doing something crazy and turn everything absolutely around and want to take brazilian jiu jitsu, look me up. It's called the gentle martial art for a reason... it's low impact, teaches you how to protect yourself against larger people, you are forced to be in close contact with others and gives you incredible self confidence. I'll help you find the correct places in your area! I believe it's perfect for women, it empowers you because you learn to be able to handle yourself physically and you get surrounded by people who are literally charmed and live great lives. I am diagnosed with major depressive disorder. I mean the doctor says, and I believe it to some extent, that it is an actual problem which needs medical treatment to be solved. However, I feel that this little spark of good mood I have sometimes, maybe 2 days a week or less, could be more like a permanent state (I mean the normal fluctuation of emotions and stuff) if I had a way to control it without pills. I don't know if you understand the point. I am so confused, I start treatment by the end of this June and I have pin my hopes on the pills. I know it's not the way it works and I need to change a lot of things in my life to put things in order. Now it's the exam period (4th semester) and I just cannot study and I dont want either to sit on the exams. I feel I destroy my career before it even started. Whatever.🤐

Omar Aladwani, Meditation is the only permanent cure for depression because it reprogrammes the mind.

I like understanding the science behind what’s happening in my brain but I also want to know how I can fix it. I don’t know why I got depressed in the first place, and yes my tablets (sertraline) help me act normal but I’ve just had to double my dose and I don’t want to rely on drugs. I came off of them for a few months but then when life got stressful again I had to go back on them because I couldn’t function

Hello from Spain to everyone. How come that we´re prescribed pills without a deep understanding of depression, without a brain scan or throughout analysis of our physical state? The part of the mice is appalling, for I doubt mice aren´t prone to suffer from depression (they have different stimulus in their lives) and to induce an animal to stress conditions to simulate a depression state is unnecessary. Has anyone here overcome depression? Has anyone here had a brain scan done? I also doubt figures aren´t real, they say there´re like 300 million people in the world suffering from depression, what happens with the ones who don´t dare to go to a doctor? I god tired of my GP and pyschiatrist, the latter´s is a rip-off and above that none of them have suffered from depression ever. For those who suffer from this I recommend to practice jogging, running or whatever makes you move, I feel better after working out (I´m posting this after doing some exercise). I recommend you to talk to someone that has gone through the same. Big hug to you - maybe we can all together look for a cure and stop hiding, we are real, normal people

The psychiatrist that we consulted thinks a scan of the brain is not necessary. He also thinks it is not needed to look at the results of a blood analysis. He offers pills for the mind and for him the body does not exist as it seems, alltough the patient had serious problems with stomach and belly. An alternative (?) opinion can be found with dr psychiatrist Peter Breggin, New York, (my source=his videos in KZread) , who in his long life never prescribed psychiatric pills because he thinks they are dangerous and they make the mind even more sick than it was before taking the pills). He believes in psychotherapy in cooperation with a close family member, so that the patient feels trust, care and love. I think that beside exercise (=very important) it is also important to have a good diet of organic food (vitamines, minerals etc). Good luck to all !

I started getting depressed when I hit puberty (around 13). It would come and go. Every other year I would get depressed. I think I got through it bcuz it would come and go....but there were times where I just wanted to give up. Luckily I used music alot which helped and then having family and friends around would make me feel better. I missed out on a lot of social events bcuz I just didn't want anyone to see me so low. I didn't make many friends I avoided alot of gatherings bcuz I didn't want people to judge me. Now I'm getting treatment and it's improving although I've only been taking the medicine for 11 days so I guess we'll see how well it works. To anyone who's depressed...get some help, no reason to feel weird about it just find someone who can help you.
