@@Meatball2022 it wasn't that simple. He had chronic fatigue syndrome. They were just looking for an excuse to keep him out of the band. When Tommy was having financial problems, Dennis put the band together back in 96. Tommy left the band back in the 80's and Dennis wouldn't replace but JY got on his case so they hired Glenn. Dennis was very sick and asked them to wait for a while. They could have brought him back when he felt better but Tommy wanted control of the band Also, when Tommy was with the Damm Yankees, he make jokes about Babe. Dennis said to Tommy,"if you are trying to hurt me you have succeeded." So it is more than wearing a pair of glasses.

Absolutely amazing interview. I feel like we’re getting a real slice of Dennis here, like we sided up next to him at a bar to listen. Dennis’ voice is still in fine form, folks. Go see him when he hits the road again. Long live Styx, the soundtrack to my childhood (Chicago born & bred). Criminal that they’re not in the RnR HOF.

"It's my way or the highway"...a statement that has been attributed to Dennis thanks to VH-1s "Behind The Music", when in actuality it was Tommy and JY saying that to Dennis during the "Brave New World" recording & prospective upcoming tour while Dennis was suffering horribly from an illness. Yet, Dennis still loves those guys after all that has happened. A true class act. Wish I could say the same for TS and JY and the rift that has subsequently happened within the fanbase after they didn't return the loyalty Dennis showed to Tommy so Tommy could do his solo albums despite JYs protestations. They didn't even pay Dennis for a year and a half while touring as "Styx". No good deed goes unpunished it seems. As a Styx fan, I bet that home video where the guys reunite after many years to record Lady '95 is heart-wrenching to watch. This was an incredible interview, the best one of Dennis that I've seen so far. Thank you Pete and Dennis.

I love Dennis, and I love his pivotal contributions to Styx, as a founding member and songwriter. I love those classic albums with him. I'm happy that he has continued as a solo artist and is releasing good new music. I'm also happy that Styx are still touring and releasing quality new albums. I do miss Dennis in the band-- but I also like Lawrence Gowan. Life goes on, and I'm just enjoying the music! Tommy and James have made it clear that they are happy with Styx as it is, and even though I wish that they could mend fences with Dennis, I'm just a fan, and I never had to go through any of the things, professionally and personally, that all of them went through with each other! Who am I to try to tell them what to do, as a fan of all of them? That's my perspective. I love the music of all of these guys, and I'll keep buying the albums and going to see Dennis *and* today's Styx, live, as long as they are still making music and touring. I don't expect to ever see Dennis, Tommy, and James on the same stage again, except for at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, if Styx is ever inducted, as should have happened many, many years ago.

Styx was one of favorite bands when I started to listen to rock music. I owned Equinox and purchased Grand Illusion when it came out, however, I started to dislike them because I felt they were becoming more like a pop group - I am talking about when I was about 17 or 18 years old-. Listening to these two inteviews and getting to know Dennis de Young, who is so eloquent, sincere, honest, and by a great interview from Pete Bardo, who allowed Dennis to talk, made me to reconsider listening to Styx again after 42 years! Thanks Pete, amazing interview. It is interesting that after all these years Dennis doesn"t see Styx's music (any period of the band), as primarily prog rock. However, he's arguably one fo the most theatrical voices in American rock history, which makes Styx's songs sound quite progressive, even to this day. While Freddie Mercury was the voice of postmodern rock opera, Dennis was a rare blend of emotional intimacy and Broadway spectacle. If there ever is an American Prog Rock Hall of Fame, Styx would be my first pick for induction (along with Kansas).

Dennis I believe you! I have been a fan since the very beginning of Styx. I am sad that the group isn’t seeing eye to eye, as I love Tommy and the other guys as well. I am devoted to the band, but I am taking your side. You were there in the beginning. And I’m so devastated that Tommy would just kick the dust in your face. Without you there would be no Styx. And this comes from a girl who has been in love with Tommy Shaw forever! His voice along with yours and JY equals the sound of Styx. My heart is broken. But I love you all. Styx is still the best band of the 80’s. ❤️

I’m not a big Styx or Dennis DeYoung fan, but this was my favorite interview Pete’s done.

Be awesome Dennis Chicago guy like me and that self-de appreciation humor. One thing you have to watch when he talks though it's a lot of tongue and cheek and a lot of quick ad libs he let's fly which are a whole lot of fun always a great interview with Denny hope you enjoyed it.

Dennis, my friend. I just want you to know something. It is obvious that you are the heart of Styx. And the lyrics, oh wow! The lyrics!! Yes! They inspired me, growing up in a world of competition. You gave us hope. It would not have been Styx without you.

Thanks, guys! Love ya, Dennis! I have my own opinions about everything, based on what I've heard from all parties, but I don't really care one way or another. The music is there. Go back & listen. That's all. I'm in my fifties like Pete, and all the bands I listened to in my youth are now 30, 40, 50 years older (those that are still alive). Things can't stay the same forever. That would be boring! But I can still cherish the music. tavi.

This is simply the best rock interview I’ve ever heard. Thank you! DDY remembers names, dates, places like no rock star I’ve ever heard. And obviously he’s a great story teller. You hung in there and took a few lumps (all in good fun), but you got the story like no one else. Thank you! As a fan of the Wooden Nickel stuff myself, I still want to know what happened to Curulewski. Intriguing answer: DDY can’t divulge for reasons of “privacy” 🤔

Tommy and JY need to tune into this and watch it and see Dennis praising them, and not bashing them. Dennis is an honest gentleman, there's no mistake about that. This was one of the best interviews I've ever seen. Thumbs up!
