Demopolis Lock Whirlpools!

The second video with some explainations! • Demopolis Lock Whirlpo...
Video of Demopolis Lock filling it's chamber with water so a boat can be locked going upstream. These whirlpools are formed on the river that runs near Demopolis, Alabama. These are NOT naturally occurring whirlpools and instead occur because large pipes under the water suck water into the area behind me (not seen in video until I turn to walk off the bridge/platform area, it's the place to the left) and fill it with water so boats can easily navigate the river without having to load/unload boats onto higher/lower areas all the time.
I wanted to record the entirety of this video because I never knew what a whirlpool looked like when it was forming. Honestly, I think that's the most interesting part - not the fact that they are A) So big B) TWO of them and C) THEY ARE SPINNING OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. :D
This video is meant for educational purposes. Teachers: Go ahead, use it in class. I know I've already had a couple of my high school teachers want to show it in class and I gave them the go ahead. I'd prefer if people not to reproduce this video content unless they are making an educational video in which this is being used as an example.
Have fun guys and gals, and I hope that this is a better description than was here before.

More detail is that the vortex-like objects dance in a binary system; in this case we'll say the vortex-like objects are same size and far enough to do whatever they want. They will collide in one case, because 1 gained power and disrupted the orbit of the binery system, causing them to get closer to each other and eventually collide. This does not apply to Black Holes. Black Holes always merge when getting close to each other. In the other case is not so interesting; they will just circle around each other until they dance away, or just getting out of orbit and roaming around. The name of the effect came from Scientist Fujiwhara over 100 years ago.

A whirlpool (or maelstrom) is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle. Small whirlpools form when a bath or a sink is draining. More powerful ones in seas or oceans may be termed maelstroms. Vortex is the proper term for a whirlpool that has a downdraft.

As the videographer stated in his comments, this was filmed at a lock, not a river or ocean. The whirlpools are made because of the water being transferred through large under ground pipes to other parts of the lock. I use to live in Bama, and I've been where this was taped at. Usually there's a roar of the water that comes along with the whirlpools.

The last time i seen a video like this was a replacement pylons. Contract was told by city where to place them. Real close to originals. These protect the structure used as footing for bridge main support. I guess the city was wrong or forget there were underground big tunnels. They were large rectangular walkways used in the 30 an 40 i believe. Well the contractor put a hole in the tunnel. It slowly filled every basement and right up to street level. It is a wide spreading system so it affected lots of businesses shutting them down .
