    I always am looking for older mining equipment to show on film! My philosophy is, once the old iron is gone, you will never be able to watch/hear it work again...which is something a picture can never do. Thanks!

    Nice video! Love that machine. I was starting to turn blue holding my breath on your next video - probably not a good idea. Ok, so does this material get used for reclamation?

  • @PAmining

    @PAmining

    10 жыл бұрын

    You bet it does. One key to surface mining is positioning excavated materials in places where you don't ever have to load them a second time. Normally, all the clay is dumped above the rock dump. So when it's time to reclaim, the D11's will push the clay over the rock, which will then be limed and seeded.

    No, that's a custom livery. Unless specified otherwise by the customer, Demag excavators were painted in corporate colors which were orange, blue and white. Thanks

  • @danielsestina6457
    @danielsestina645710 жыл бұрын

    So where does the clay, topsoil, and wood debris go? Stockpile for later, or is it used immediately for reclamation?

  • @PAmining

    @PAmining

    10 жыл бұрын

    Daniel Sestina That really depends on what phase of mine life the job is in. A new mine starting a first cut will normally put the first clay layer of the surge piled for use on final reclamation. A mine in the middle of it's life (as seen here) will be continually using the clay as part of reclamation as the pit advances

    PAmining I grew up in Eastern Ohio in coal country. Never worked the mines, I always worked in the construction field; however, I was always fascinated by both mineral extraction and the tools used to extract it. Nicely done, and thanks for the info.

    That was a generator used for the enormous block heaters on the engine. These cold Ohio Winters are hard on these engines so we set that engine there to run it's block heaters over night and on weekends. Then in events when we couldn't get out haulers 785c trucks out to our generator we had extra plugs and could nose up against the back of the Demag and drop them to the trucks and keep all the engines close and sheilded from the weather and plugged in keeping warm.

    What I can see is the newer stuff has it's pros and cons but more computerised means more complicated. Electric over hydraulic works fine till you get a short. Pilot valve setup was pretty well bullet proof. Straight power shift was iron clad. Sometimes the easier it gets the worse it'll become. Nothing wrong with a little exercise.

  • @ThePilotPenguin1

    @ThePilotPenguin1

    Lewie McNeely it seems like everything is going electric in farming all the small tractors now don't have a manual transmission. its all this dyna vt bollox where you have to turn dials to get it into gear and in the terex wheeled backhoe to change gears you twist the lever that puts it in forwards neutral and reverse. it seems the newer it is the more buttons and dials in the cab. one day mechanics will be made redundant and replaced my electricians

    its with heavy heart and teared in eyes that I bring sad news, with Obamas successful war on Coal, the mighty US coal market has crippled, mines closing every day across the country, leaving thousands of coal employees without work. this machine has been idle for some time and has now been retired and disassembled.
