It doesn't always pay to have a new machine. Keep in mind you have to factor in capitol cost and cost per ton. A new machine this size is a huge investment, and if the new machine is still going to produce the same amount as the old machine, it's not always worth it. This machine still averages about 20 loads an hour and can be depended on daily for reliable production work.

love them old b models, them, eucs,and lectrahauls were the best haul trucks around when i was gorwin up in the 80s here in eastern ky. i got to see 2 diff draglines work back then, one was on starfire strip in hazard(horison coal) the other worked on martiki (job 17 west) in martin co. hope to see alot more of the old stuff thanx.

It’s actually off an H255S. Demag offered two size backhoe booms for the H185S. The reason why this machine has that newer boom on it is because the original backhoe boom that was on the machine was a long boom; allowed the machine to hold a 12yd bucket. That means about 5-6 passes to fill an 85 ton truck. The company wanted to increase production so they put a short backhoe boom on the machine, which allows the machine to hold an 18yd bucket. Now takes 3-4 passes to fill a truck

Everybody asks that. Big mining excavators/shovels like this work on shot rock and uneven ground surfaces. The machine is designed to be working on a solid ground surface; it doesn't need wide tracks to spread the weight. Also, narrow tracks are less prone to bend, twist, and crack, where as wide tracks in these conditions would. It’s not a little construction excavator

It's the first time I've seen one working. I remember Banks Mining in the UK had one parked up at a site in Northumberland. That machine had had a very hard life - battered to bits, welded and patched and leaking fluids everywhere. The machine was left more as a last resort if things went bad with more modern machinery at their site!

One big cylinder gives the same power as two smaller ones. The design was later changed on the PC3000 (which is the sucessor to the H185S/255S) to two cylinders to curl the bucket.

They're good tough trucks.

There's a big difference. The H185S was a newer upgraded version that replaced the H185. The machine is not only far more larger than an older H185 but also more powerful, more advanced and has a larger bucket capacity. To give you an idea, it would be like comparing a Cat 245 to a newer Cat 375.

What's the difference between the H185 and H185S?

Ok thanks the pc2000 is the biggest excavator I have ever seen. Kakosing has two of them one was working on 35 through west Virginia and the other is on the Nelsonville bypass in Ohio. They are really nice to see in operation.

That's the crane division. The mining line was bought by Komatsu...ie: Komatsu Mining Germany.

What is demags equivalent to the pc 2000

hey PA, is this rig off route 61 in Ashland pa? I went passed this weekend, on my way to my sisters house in Shamokin and spotted iy off the road and went over to it. its huge, Ithink its the same one because this one had a yellow komatsu boom on it also. I run a hoe in nj and the biggest you see around here is the occasional 1250 komatsu, the biggest I ever ran is a 7400a link belt [12 v 71 Detroit] and 180,000 lbs. I really hope its the same machine we saw last weekend. my daughter and wife loved it!

Depends on the mining company but a lot goes overseas

In the right setup, no. Hydraulic machines offer versatility and flexibility when digging but electric cable machines are a bit faster and designed for a more long term job.

18yd bucket

you know why this model has only one cylinder to the bucket? I saw some other smaller models with two cylinders that .. greetings here from Brazil. I'm starting to operate excavators, and my shonho is operating in one of these big mines ..

Actually the PC2000 is not a direct descendent of any Demag hydraulic excavator. The PC2000 was born from Komatsu's PC1600, which later became the PC1800 and then the 2000. However size and capacity wise, the new PC2000 is close to an older Demag H185 and at the same time, in-between the size and capacity of the newer H135S and H185S.

I though Terex owned Demag, or is it just their cranes???
