Hi James, I have this laptop, and for some reason I can't get it to see my NVME drive that has Windows installed on it. I tried adding boot option for every efi file there is on the drive but I can't get it to boot. Do you maybe know which Windows efi file is required to get the system to boot properly? I've had the same issue. The solution is to create bootable Windows 10 with Rufus utility with correct settings. Partition scheme must be GPT for UEFI. In the BIOS settings enable UEFI. No need to legacy support option. During boot process, hit F12 and choose your usb stick. Then you will be able to install Windows onto eMMC flash in UEFI mode. - I've found this on a dell forum. Hope it works for you as well.

Depending on the system you may need some specific drives for it to recognise the NVMe drive - these can be added in to the USB stick and loaded using the Load Driver option on the partitioning screen.

Hello I have a Dell 5300 with a PCIe NVME disk, I changed the Bios to AHCI and it slowed me down a bit. Should I set it to RAID if I only have one disk? How correctly should the BIOS be set in Dell 5300 AHCI or RAID??? Does this setting affect system performance? @@abdur-rakib-cse Nope, Dell limited the RAM speed artificially to encourage people to spend more money on their higher end laptops. Your CPU supports 3200MHz RAM, it ships with RAM rated for 3200MHz, but Dell put a cap on the speed to 2667MHz. Same on my Dell Inspiron 15 3511.

So Legacy Boot from USb is not possible? Even if you set a password and disable Secure Boot, etc?

they disabled that a couple of years in most Dell's machines. You CAN boot from a Legacy device, but if you image a hard drive with a legacy image it wont be added to the partition table thus it won't boot up.

It looks nice but works terrible, is it any way to switch it to such "legacy like" style? Latitudes with Ryzen have got nice text based BIOS. Lenovo has got same terrible graphic BIOS configuration program but I can switch it back to the test mode.

I came for explanations of the complicated Dell Bios, but this seems more of a as you look to your left and then reading what it says, without explanation.

Take the back off the laptop and disconnect the screen, it should output to the HDMI instead.

Why would you want to do that? Also you install it like any other OS just insert your boot media.

If you have 12GB currently then you'll have 8GB and 4GB currently installed - you don't get 6GB or 12GB modules typically. Your options would be replace the 4GB module with an 8GB one for 16GB total, or replace both with 16GB modules for 32GB total. You can use CPU-Z to check what you currently have installed.

How you change the Ram bus speed from this bios ? I just added a 8gb 2666mhz ram (with another built-in 4gb 2666mhz ram) After adding the extra ram, my ram bus speed is showing 2400 mhz. So really need to change it to 2666mhz.

Hello. For some reason my laptop suddenly forgot Windows Boot Manager existed. No worries, I'll just manually add it as a boot drive in the boot seque- oh for some stupid reason literally nothing happens when i click "browse files" when trying to create a boot drive. That isn't something you'll setup in the BIOS - you need to use a Windows PE recovery environment (like the Windows 10 bootable USB installer) and rebuild the BCD I expect.

@@BrueComputing Oh I see! Thank you so much for replying. I should specify that my computer keeps telling me that my hard drive isnt installed everytime I try to start it up. And I got into BIOS and followed guides to fix it, but noticed that the boot sequence is just empty. So I guess that's the issue? I'm confused because this happened yesterday and I remember only a boot option "ubuntu" being there. Weird because I never used ubuntu but I've probably installed it when I was thinking of getting into it months ago? Anyways eventually Windows Recovery kicked in and it all got fixed once I scanned my drive and let it fix errors. Anyways, browsing files actually managed to work last night, but after I added the boot option pointing to wbm manually and restarted the computer, it just didn't recognise it again :/. Literally right now I'm looking at the boot sequence and there's nothing there. As mentioned before, this whole issue actually happened recently on this laptop and I did fix it by using the Windows Recovery Environment. Back then, it automatically showed up after the laptop kept failing to start up while restarting infinitely, but now it's either not happening or I just haven't reached enough failed starts for it to kick in. I guess I'll have to find a USB and install Windows PE Recovery Environment on it? Some part of me wonders if its something as mundane as the hard drive not properly in place, seeing as the laptop's bottom panel isnt exactly in the best shape. But if that were the case, it should still detect something in the boot sequence, no? Oh and this is a very noob-y question, but is it possible I'll lose any files on my hard drive in the process? I already did this before and nothing happened then but I'm not sure if it'll be the same booting through a USB (On a side note, having to deal with that chest piercingly loud startup error code BEEP that blares at full volume is totally unnecessary and I would really prefer if it didnt exist. Doesnt help with my phobia of loud sudden sounds. Is there any way to remove that? Or am I pushing it a little? haha) Again, thank you very much for replying. I genuinely didn't think anyone would see my comment

I have the exact same model, but with the i5 chip. Had the same issues at first. Have you tried setting in the nvidia control panel? Also, disable speedstep. My in-game video settings are at 1920x1080, all are low, 2x anisotropic filtering. I set the fps in the nvidia control panel and I specified the nvidia processor to be used for the game. I have 63 fps (my preferred fps, but you can adjust it) and it's stable. I just use a small fan to make sure it's properly cooled as it runs on about 3.ghz while gaming.

How do I secure boot enable

In my dell Inspiron 3501 BIOS there is no simple or advanced option. Can't choose the function to key behaviour. Updated the BIOS but no such option.

@@tacenda3250 I don't think its an option on this machine. I don't generally see a reason to do this though - memory is dynamically assigned to the integrated graphics as required, increasing the initial allocation doesn't really achieve much.

Can you believe this interface... I mean... we are techs, only techs work with BIOS. Why the hell does these woke BIOS designers have to set it up like if it was Apple. It is so slow... even if in the previous version, one can't back up the trees with the left arrow... this garbage is just unusable. The tinfoiled hat that designed this, I would put 50-60 PCs with this interface in front of them and tell them to set them up with Smart on, AMT off, etc. and I'm sure they would all rage quit inside 20 minutes. The problem with engineers today is that they do not use what the pull out of their head... ya... it looks cute... but it's useless for the industry.
