Delayed Puberty--MRI

Ғылым және технология

Brandon, 27, says he’s never gone through puberty and despite being 6 foot 3 inches tall, feels he has the appearance of a 12-year-old boy. His lack of body hair and insignificant genital growth, as well as frequent fatigue may be indicative of Kallmann’s Syndrome. Brandon undergoes an MRI to allow doctors to examine his pituitary gland.

I was 23 when I was diagnosed with Kallmann syndrome after being dismissed as a "late developer" or "late bloomer" until that time. It was not until I was 23 that any doctor asked me if I had a sense of smell. I had never thought of mentioning it myself. I also have hearing problems which are also associated with Kallmann syndrome.

joel padilla Hear me out. I been going back and fourth to urologist for 2 months getting blood work done. I’ve had concerns with my pubertal development. I thought I had some form of hypogonadism because during my early teen years none of the pubertal changes that are supposed to occur never happened to me. My genitals never enlarged & my voice never deepened. Turns out the blood results reveal my testosterone is 500 which is good and urologist said I’m normal. I’m 20 years old and stand 6’2. I have a goatee coming in , armpit hair , pubic hair , thigh hair & ass hair. According to doctors the first sign that you’re entering puberty is your balls getting bigger and mine haven’t so does that mean I’m just a late developer ? And maybe it’s a genetic thing?

I came to KZread for relaxing music to take stress away from finals and yet I'm learning about this poor man who never hit puberty....

Poor kid. These medical experts just used him to promote their career. All these could be conveyed privately.

I tip my hat to this young man! Putting himself out there on such a personal issue makes him more of a man than most. I hope that his treatments work and help him develop as well as possible.

If the treatment was so simple, why wait until 26-27 to do it? If he doesn't have the money can he not do anything? I live in Canada so I'm a bit naive.

Sometimes it's fear, but in the united states it is very hard to get treatment for concerning issues because healthcare is not free and very very expensive. Source: I live in the US

BriCheesie that's crazy to me... so people might die because they don't have the money to afford treatment or even an appointment to figure out whether they are in danger???

Unfortunately, yes that is correct. To put things bluntly: I've broken my legs several times, and without insurance I would have payed $7000+ out of pocket to get treatment each time.

His parents should of gotten him the help when he was younger. They should of paid for his treatment. I feel very bad for him. But I'm glad that he is now getting the help he needs.

I think is absolutely great how he spoke up and took care of a very important Male problem. It's normal nothing to be embarrassed about. I hope men are watching who need medical attention and this inspires them to seek it

Having a benign pituitary tumour is not normally seen in patients with Kallmann syndrome I think. My MRI was normal apart from the missing olfactory bulbs which explained the lack of sense of smell. The absence of the olfactory bulbs, causing the lack of sense of smell, is seen in nearly all Kallmann syndrome patients. This condition also exists with a normal sense of smell when it is known as congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH).
