On july 16 2012 The world lost a Rock Legend and i cried for someone i never met, but for a person that i loved very much..You will be missed by many & remembered forever, be at peace Mr Lord ..Jon Lord, who fused classical and heavy metal to make Deep Purple one of the biggest rock bands in the world, died Monday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71. Lord suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism, or a blockage of the lung artery, according to a statement posted on his website.
Born in Leicester, England, on June 9, 1941, Lord took classical music lessons as a child, and as a teen became enamored with the sound of the blues organ.
Later, he was among the first musicians to successfully and seamlessly blend the two influences using a Hammond C3 organ, distorting the sound, and routing it through amplifiers. While best known for co-writing the Deep Purple hit, "Smoke on the Water," Lord never strayed far from his classical roots. The band's "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" in 1969 was one of many chart successes

What you are forgetting here is that Tommy Bolin was responsible for writing almost all the music on Come Taste The Band. He did the same thing for 2 James Gang albums all of which seemed to be overlooked by everyone.

I really viewed Come Taste the Band as the first Whitesnake album. The 70's and early 80's Whitesnake albums were probably would be what Deep Purple would have sounded like if they had fired Hughes and Bolin and carried on the name Deep Purple. Bernie Marsden sounded so much like Hughes in WS and he filled in on the Hughes part of early Whitesnake concerts so well and without Glenn's screaking.

Hughes was given credit for his writing contributions on all songs on the re-issued Burn album except 'Mistreated' 'A'200' and 'Sail Away'. He wasn't given credits on the original issue due to contractual obligations.

He had tough shoes to fill and many fans were upset that Blackmore wasn't there so they took their anger out on Tommy. That didn't help his situation either.

Glenn Hughes must be bomb-proof. They should have sacked him and given Bolin a warning and just carried on with a new bassist. Still, they went out on a high with Come Taste The Band, which is a great album considering what was going on behind the scenes.

I would agree that's a pretty accurate assessment. But i would also say that fracture started when Blackmore sacked Bobby Woodman (DP'S first percussionist) Rod Evans (first vovalist) Nick Simper (first bassist) Forced out Ian Gilan (2nd vocalist) Forced out Roger Glover (2nd bassist) When they hired Hughes & Coverdale their first collaborative effort was the Stormbringer album.Blackmore publicly disliked the funky soul elements, even calling it "shoeshine music.Blackmore left soon after

Because he knew that the late Jon Lord ( may he rest in peace ) & Ian Paice would not back his decision to fire 2 guys only after one album, so he didn't even ask them about it ( & they had to be thinking about what an impossible task it would be to find someone else that could or would cover songs by R Evans. I Gilan. D Coverdal & G Hughes ) Blackmore had to be thinking about this also. Those factors were all the motivation he needed to start something he planned well in advance, Rainbow

Kinda looks like after watching this whole Doc. that Hughes, and Bolin, somewhat broke the crack that was in DP. Don't get me wrong I like hughes and bolins efforts in DP and respect thier careers as musicians. I guess that's just the way it went down.

So Lord, Paice and Coverdale worked very hard the last concerts with Bolin to keep the songs working on stage meanwhile Hughes and Bolin were out of their witts ?

I was a very good friend of Tommy's and I have to say that the whole union with him and Deep Purple was a disaster. His music and life took a downward spiral from the time he joined them and the band also went down. I don't think you can blame anyone. It was just a bad connection. Tommy was never happy during his time with them. It was just a bad idea for all involved.
