@Lloyd Bonafide well thats just wrong. Ian paice and jon lord did like the album and roger glover had mixed feelings of it. So explain u r self, what the fuck u talking about? And almost every single song from that album is a banger but i assume u havent even listened it trough since u were already wrong about the fax.

No need to apologize for time taken between videos. Your rankings are always very interesting and informative and obviously the result of that time/effort between videos. I always look forward to your lists, because your videos are of high quality and interest. My favorite Deep Purple album is Burn, but I have to admit that I've only owned a few of their albums. Still, I enjoyed this video anyway.

'In rock' was a massive influence on iron maiden. A masterpiece every song on it is killer regarded has the first real metal album by many. 'Flight of the rat' brutal riff and excellent drumming , 'Into the fire' great riff Gillian screaming his lungs out 'hard loving man' Great hammond organ and solo from guitar God ritchie blackmore. Speed king , child in time, blood sucker and living wreck a stunning album.

CTTB -‘Gettin’ Tighter’ a Bolin/Hughes composition with that pure Funk middle section.. play that to unfamiliar ears and it usually gets a positive reaction. ‘This Time Around’ so unlike anything they had recorded previously. David Coverdale sings powerfully throughout the album with ‘Love Child’ being a case in point. Of course you only have to listen to Glenn’s previous band ‘Trapeze’ & you’ll start to join the dots.

While I appreciate that we are all different & we'll always have a difference of opinion, I have to agree with most of your comments. Post Come taste the Band, I was seeking something else to satisfy by musical taste buds, so I bow to your knowledge... In the case of Who do We think We Are? I feel that you are overlooking the fact that DP were in absolute turmoil internally and I've always felt that this album is unfairly treated. You mentioned Woman from Tokyo, but Mary Long has a clever lyric, Smooth Dancer is a great little rocker, Rat Bat Blue has a memorable riff & is a very good track. Our Lady is excellent, a brilliant assault on the keys by the legend that is Jon Lord 🙏. This album has also been overshadowed by the sublime Made in Japan, so I urge you to revisit this little gem, it's a really misunderstood effort.....

Purple were second only to Zeppelin in terms of influence (and sales, if that counts as a sign of influence). Black Sabbath were garbage before they got a decent singer (Dio).

Definitely their worst…of what I have heard….I never bought Rapture Of The Deep, Whoosh! or Infinite. Not much of a Steve Morse fan. Great guitarist but not good at writing memorable songs or riffs. And I never plan on buying Turning To Crime. I hate it when bands do cover albums.

I had heard some of the MKI songs that were played on the radio occasionally and I know I liked April but not enough to buy any of the early albums at that time. Child in Time was the song I that made me go out and get the album. That was in 1970. Of course I was a complete fan of the MKII output and I thought it was all over when that line up broke. I immediately changed my mind when I heard the Burn title song but it took some years during which I started to appreciate the whole album more and more each time I listened to it. Even the short lived Bolin version of the band was promising and their only album stands well in the catalogue. The later albums have good and better ones among them but not enough to make it into the top ranks. 1. Machine Head 2. Burn 3. Fireball (The deep cuts on this album have grown on me over time and they aged extremely well. They open up their style here.) 4. In Rock (Not my #1 for the same reasons you state in your video) 5. Stormbringer 6. Come Taste the Band (Tragedy that this is the only album of that line up and thus often is overlooked - maybe not exactly what people at the time expected from Deep Purple but a great record on its own. If any other band had released it they would have been catapulted to fame.) 7. Perfect Stranger 8. Who Do We Think We Are 9. Abandon 10. Deep Purple (In my assessment, they were about to become an early prog band if Richie had not got the upper hand over Jon Lord and led them into heavier stuff.)

The House of Blue Light was a bit of a disappointment after the excellent reunion Perfect Strangers. The songs aren't particularly bad , there just not very memorable. Bad Attitude's the only one I really go back to. Same with Who Do We Think We Are (with the exception of Woman From Tokyo and a couple of other tracks) doesn't sound like a band inspired.

I listened to Come Taste the Band a few times, but really nothing special about it for me, other than maybe "This Time Around." Fairly generic funk rock sound that's been done better by other groups. An album like "Fireball" is WAY, way better.

Always thought the closer, "You Keep On Moving" was a great track (with a superb solo from the late, great Jon Lord.) The album did rock more than Stormbringer but both albums were nowhere near the greatness of Burn imo.

They made one really bad live album "Last Concert In Japan" from 1975. That was the one where Bolin had taken some drugs on his day off and fell asleep on his arm and was bascially semi-paralyzed. They had to tune his guitar to play just one chord. Hughes said in an old interview that "We made that awful record, Last Concert In Japan, for any Purple fan who has it you know Tommy can't play".

I thought Bananas was a great return to form, with a fine debut by Don Airey (after the Lord of The Hammond bowed out). I would say the production though wasn't the best. Funny album cover (with the two indian dudes and lots of nanas).

No way would I have rated ' Come Taste The Band' so highly. In absolute terms its a good album. But Tommy Bolin was a different style guitar player to Ritchie Blackmore and the result was the centre of gravity had shifted to the point where what came out was no longer Deep Purple.

@@TastesLikeMusic I own all of them. Stormbringer being the first of them from my childhood when I was discovering Black Sabbath and Priest in my dad's record collection. I'm not kidding, I dedicated time and money in earnest over the decades. At times I really thought "wow I'm really into this song wow I do like Deep Purple!" then promptly forget them and when I went back I couldn't remember what I liked about them. I know there is a solid 10 songs I've grooved hard on, and I had to look at the tracklists just now to remember what they were. That's not like me, I can tell you Sabbath's entire playlist in chronological order. I also recently found out that another childhood favorite of mine, Jesus Christ Superstar, had Ian as Jesus and get this.. The only thing I didn't like about that album was Jesus' parts. Ritchie really is a virtuoso, great technique but garbage tone even for the era. I could go on and on about my struggle with Deep Purple, but I can tell you for sure it was only in the last year in my late 40s that I finally admitted that I just don't like them.

a strange list where albums that don't represent the sound pf the band are ranked higher than the ones that were considered big influences. BOLIN added nothing to the story of the band and HUGHES is the reason BLACKMORE left the band, he plays funky music and PÙRPLE is rock, he ruined everything.
