Now matter how often I hear Ritchie speak, his soft, almost shy voice and his perfect RP English (to my foreign ears, that is) never ceases to amaze me. I was lucky enough to meet him ten years ago and chat with him for half an hour: I love his intelligence, his politeness and his sense of dry humour.

Fantastic documentary! I'm glad I had a chance to see Purple back in the day. There have been few bands since that could claim the pedigree of Deep Purple. It wasn't just hard rock, it was real music played by highly accomplished musicians. Show me a band, even from those days, that could boast that all 5 musicians were at the top of their respective positions. They were like one of the best Yankee teams ever...An All-Star at every position.

What totally amazes me from practically all musicians/ artists that have written the greatest rock tunes, almost everyone of them are derived from one simple riff. Listening to Blackmore talk about the Space Truck'n riff and how he brought to Ian and immediately Ian recognizes it and clearly had a vision for it and somehow they collaboratively turn it into this epic tune. If your a musician, professional or just a hobbyist (like me), this is the type of magic we all wish to experience.

Who the fuck is stupid enough to not know what "Smoke on the Water" is about? Do people not listen to lyrics? Blackmore is such a precise player. Hearing that isolated solo to "Highway Star" is amazing how fast and clean he really plays. No way in hell could Jimmy Page do that. Love Page too, but he's more of a sloppy player. And I was surprised that Ritchie was so complimentary to Ian Gillan. Jon Lord: total class act and a great keyboardist. Thanks for all the years Jon. Rock in Heaven!

Last Autumn, I was walking down a street, which was quite muddy after a series of rains... and an old beggar was kneeling... his whole look filled with sadness, hopelessness, he was crying on the inside, and so was I when I saw him. I wrote a song about him and this feeling, "In the mud" - like one of those softer Doors' tracks. I believe When A Blind Man Cries strikes the same deep chord in me.

true that David and Ritchie had a falling out. But Gillan was the singer on Machine Head. And it is Gillan that is the singer I alluded to in my earlier comment. You are correct that something as tragic as Jon's passing does put things into perspective. I read an interview where Ritchie said that Jon meant so much to him and his passing is personally devastating to him.

Pure excellence in every element of the music. I totally appreciate their innovation to hard rock. I wish more people my age(26) and younger would turn their heads from what''s playing now and take a seat and learn a lesson or two from these icons. Totally awesome.

Every member integral to the sound, but LOVED hearing Jon on the keys! He can't help but sound unique. One touch on the keys and you hear the purple sound. Sad that he won't be blessing us anymore with his musicality, other than on his records of course. They are all a clever group of lads, but I think I am correct in considering Jon the consummate gentleman of the group. R.I.P. Composer. Beastmaster, Gentleman. Jon Lord.

I was at that concert!! Amazing show))) Even saw a purple limo leave the parking garage afterwards with tinted windows - obviously the lads)) Ritchie and Jon - 2 of the most incredible musicians ever. As a keyboard player myself, Jon was my hero - RIP. You are sorely missed.

I still think Machine Head is the best Hard Rock album of all time, followed by Deep Purple in Rock.

Possibly THE most influential band on the style & sound of the hard rock/heavy metal of the later '70's and the '80s, even more than Zeppelin, even if Zeppelin made them play "riff rock" in the first place, as they freely admitted.....RESPECT!!!!!

Mark 2 created their own genre, not style but, an entire genre of which only they played. It could be called: HARD rhythm and symphonidelic jazz ROCK. It was pure magic as you get exactly that impression from all the interviews. Because each of the five were such great musicians, they really needed a strong manager to provide a group direction and bond. The lack of that, led to the break up.
