No, that's not the reasoning for any of his songs' names. This song is called "Arabesque No. 1" because it is an arabesque (An ornately decorative classical composition). Think of it like L.W. Beethoven titling his symphonies "Symphony No. 1", "Symphony No. 2", and so on.

This is probably the best rendition of Arabesque No.1 I've heard, better than lots of these other pros.

Sorry I gotta disagree. It's not bad per se and you can chose it as your favourite but it's not really better than "lots of pros". There are some mistakes in there and I don't like how he interpreted some parts. I mean that I don't like the interpretation is kind of my opinion, you can defend him from that. But you can't defend the fact that he played some eighth notes like quarters with the right hand at 0:48 for example. Even if that part was poco mosso (it isn't) it's just too much of an interpretation and imo simply wrong. He does such mistakes way too often. It was not dreamy enough and he tried to be dreamy at the wrong parts. It's overall not as pleasant as it should be. I know I'm nitpicking but you gotta praise people like that only when they deserve it.

+hellschatt You're probably right, and probably a better pianist than I am, but it's all subjective I suppose. Although I've heard of a few other very good renditions, this is one of my favorites. All the technical terms and techniques matter to certain elitists but I just go by the way it makes me feel when I hear the music, perhaps I don't appreciate it the the level that you do but that's the beauty of music right? it can appeal to the masses at every level and the level of their ability. Cheers!

My favorite classical piano sonata of all time - I still remember finding the sheet music for it in a little shop in Bielefeld, Germany in 1995. I broke down in tears standing there reading it when I got to my favorite part. I tried to learn it when I got back home, but didn't have the skills...thank you for performing it the way I remember it from a CD I bought sometime in the 80s.

I wish my Yamaha YDP-142 could sound as warm and inviting as a grand piano

My favorite piano 'tester'. Covers nearly the entire range (both notes and tempo) nicely which makes this the song of choice whenever I see a piano.

OnlyMichaelJackson (Angel) i cried bc i’m getting over a breakup and this song reminded me of falling in love with her but now we’ve broken up, it’s not the piece but the feeling that the piece reminds you of. any good pianist should have the ability to move you in some way

during my spring recital for ballet, a group of girls did a dance to this song inspired by the famous painting of the girls in a dance studio and they wore white leotards with tutus and black sashes and it was really emotional because my favorite senior dancer who is extremely talented was in that dance and when they rehearsed it, everyone went quiet because it was so emotional and we all knew it was her last performance. the dance was simply beautiful and it almost moved me to tears. every time i hear this song now, i get to happy but sad. it’s pure melancholy but i absolutely love it. thank you

I have cried to this song. Not because of sadness but the beauty of melody and the emotion it brings. For me it is absolute bliss and peace. It makes me thing of water trickling down a glass window and parts of the song is a waterfall. Kool thing about music it can unlock imagination. Everyone interprets music differently.

Honestly every time around 4:20 until the end i feel so emotional and sad but in a good way ...its so powerful

Paul, you play beautifully, I mean, just exquisitely, and my God, the tone of that piano is just to die for!

This is the best way I’ve ever heard this piece played. It literally brought tears to my eyes which even surprised me. Usually, I hear a lot of pros play with too much expression which sounds too intense. This way, however, sounds so much more calm and pleasing to listen to. I don’t have a piano since we’re moving houses, and this just made the wait much better. Sincerely, thank you for such lovely playing!

I wish to be able to play like you someday. This is so beautiful.

I just finished learning this song today! I'm so excited and proud it's been a dream of mine for so long

It has been now 8 years that I'm playing the piano and I always have the feeling that I'm not playing "clean" , It's not as fluid and emotional as other people... I wish one day I could play perfectly like you. I'd love to see you play "doctor gradus ad parnassum" by Debussy as well , sorry if I did mistakes , I'm from France :)

+asia321999 In this piece specifically, you have to know when to press the pedal. I would recommend listening to this recording and writing down when the pedal is lifted on your sheet of music. I always mark pedal lifts with a capital L above the note where I have to lift the pedal. Also, practise getting your notes more even. Each note value should last for exactly the same length of time - this is the hardest part of learning piano, especially when you get to the faster notes, so a lot of time may be required to build finger and wrist strength.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience One of the most important things you need to do to get clean playing, is practice the piece without pedal (no matter how weird it sounds). And also pay attention to each separate note and the phrasing. A lot of times people play trills and similar quick movements and they smear the notes together, you have to play each individual note cleanly. I still struggle with phrasing but I know its important.

i wouldnt say, I play 100% clean and consistent, but people always tell me I have a very good touch and feel, while playing the piano. For me one of the biggest factor was, when I learned to play with only the weight of my fingers, instead of really "pushing" the key. Its hard to explain via a youtube comment, but today I just spread my fingers but play with my "whole hand". It really pushed me towards the next level and a lot of pieces I played years ago, I play siginificantly better due to this technique.

Because you're too TECHNICAL!!!! You have to FEEEL the music. Instead of worrying if you're going to make mistake. Songs just become muscle memory after a while so DONT WORRY ABOUT IT AND JUST PLAY IT.

no one plays the piano like you and makes me feel like you do. you have a serious gift. there is so much emotion and care in both this piece and clair de lune, my two favorite pieces, and your renditions of both are my favorites. everything i'm feeling just makes so much sense when i listen to you play. thank you so much. i never thought i'd get so emotional listening to a piece.

It is an immensely beautiful piece, played very well. It is so beautiful, like a ray of warm autumn sunlight, shining through a colorful tree... ...and after a light breeze all the colored leaves whirl around you. This piece has a touch of melancholic nostalgia - it is pure beauty.

I've found a few piano players here on KZread that are great to watch. Obviously, audio quality is first, but then being able to actually see their hands is something I look for also. This video has both. It's so frustrating to find someone who can play great, but has horrible audio. Great job! You just earned another sub!

i just finished learning around 25% through 75% of the way through this piece- can confirm it’s absolutely worth the challenge. i honestly can’t describe the joy i felt when i finally got that portion down. i’m super excited to learn the rest, and for you to as well! you got this!

I played for I think 7- 8 hrs straight for a few days this summer. Because it's too hard for me to not follow through trying to learn clair de lune hahaha. And I was too lazy to do anything else with my time . Thanks for the wishes!

I have heard some very good renditions of Debussy's Arabesque No. 1, but I love this rendition very much because it is not only played superbly but it is slower so we enjoy this piece longer, which works very well here.

My favourite version so far. I like that it's not too fast.

I appreciate others' renditions. However, I now have two favorite renditions of this beloved piece: your exquisite piano solo, Paul Barton; and Ms Nancy Allen, Harpist (NY USA). You are Both EXTRAORDINARY and truly incomparable. KUDOS!

Beautiful! I learned this when I was in the 6th grade. Since then I haven't been playing the piano that much at all and I've lost a ton of skill because I've been working on percussion music so much. This is probably the only piece I can remember how to play well. Great job!

practice slowly dividing the pattern into a six count (triplet on 1,3,5 and duple on 1, 4) then go slow till you get it.

What helped me was it would always go, right hand, left hand, right hand, then together and repeat through the triplets

divide into six beats, count 1 skip 2 and 3 skip where no notes are played on the skips, 1 played both hands, 2 right and both, 3 right, best description I've seen is on KZread Josh Lane play 2 vs 3 rhythm Debussy Arabesque, chart about 2:56
