The BBC mentioned the president and his foreign minister but no-one mentioned the helicopter pilot - didn't he matter?. I find it strange that there were 3 helicopters, 2 of them landed safely but the one carrying the president and foreign minister didn't.

I only saw one main rotor blade in the wreckage, that is very odd. I'm not prepared to say bad weather yet. That helicopter can't fly at that height and that weight if one of the engines goes kaput.

@@sandramarshall518 I saw a published photo. Can only see one rotor blade. But the other blade might have come to rest outside the field of view. I doubt one blade detached in flight, if that happened both blades would land quite some distance away from the main wreckage.

The cause is quite simple: spatial disorientation as the copter pilot flew into thick fog. It's the same kind of fog that Kobe Bryant's pilot flew into, got lost, could not see left/right/up/down, and crashed into a mountain.

That Bell 212 helicopter can fly in fog perfectly well, and 100% for sure the pilot was competent. But what it can't do is fly on one engine at that weight at that altitude. I know, I've flown Bell 212's for years. If an engine failed the other engine just gets them to the scene of the accident.

You can't jump to that conclusion. The accident site is about 10,000 feet elevation. The Bell 212 can't fly at that height and weight on one engine. If an engine failed the other engine does not have enough power to stay airborne and a crash landing in the mountains is inevitable.
