Honestly, Sans vs The Judge was my preferred to win the tournament. Both have a really good asthetic and unique asthetic, and their potential banter would be fantastic, from both a comedic and serious standpoint. Great shit.

1:13 Actually broke me, not just on how funny it was, but because that was also my reaction to seeing the goated matchup lose to an mu thats already been on another ballot and was definitely already going to happen.

Even though there are other matchups I prefer in the tournament, I don’t think any matchup has made me pop off more than seeing X vs Optimus Primal in the tournament, especially since it won Week 6. I know it got annihilated in Week 10, but Im just happy it made it to the semifinals

There's probably more but those are the main ones I remember, it's not only one of the most creatively-free matchups but literally can be the most creatively free match IN DEATH BATTLE HISTORY. Mainly due to Maxwell having virtually infinite creative power with the ability to summon very obscure or powerful beings from the DC Multiverse and Sackboy being the literal abstract embodiment of an omniverse's imagination and creativity - along with having access to summoning the Justice League, Avengers, etc. So references, reality warping, artsyle changes, everything.

Having a pokemon mystery dungeon character like grovyle in death battle would be so god damn funny, it opens the possibilities of having a massive inventory, like -filling up your 48 slot inventory with reviver seeds (ha ha gotta kill me 49 times for it to count) -turning the opponent into an apple and eating them (itemizer orb) -grabbing every item scattered across the arena (trawl orb) -turning the opponent into a substitute doll (decoy orb) -weather manipulation (sunny, rainy, sandy and snowy orbs) -petrifying the opponent with stun seeds (read stun seed backwards) -warp seed (this would just be funny, just randomly teleporting them somewhere in the arena) -lookalike items, oh my god lookalike items. basically they’re like regular items but their names have typos and have wildly different effects. oran berry heals you, oren berry damages you. max elixir restores pp, mix elixir does the same but only for linoone. reviver seed revives you, reviser seed revives you, then you notice that there was an ‘s’ in the name instead of a ‘v’, then you burst out laughing so hard you die -escape orb to leave the fight pmd is very wacky and i love it

For it to work, I think it'd need to be a chase from an overwhelming wave of enemies with Ellie and Clementine helping each other, and end with a mercy kill because this time one of them couldn't prevent the other from getting bitten. Your statement about how mythology MUs and religion in general are treated in the DB community really struck a chord with me. I said this one on r/deathbattlematchups (which nobody really understood, of course), but I feel as though the vast majority of Death Battle fans (and vs debaters in general) couldn't care less about a character's... well, character. They aren't characters with meaningful stories to them, they're toys. Toys that they can slap numbers onto and slam together like an eight year old until they inevitably break apart and they get to the next toy to abuse. r/deathbattlematchups is easily the worst in this regard. I can't tell you how many times they unironically use featless characters/verses or use characters that, by all accounts, feel extremely disrespectful to use in a VS sense (Omori, Religion, EEAAO, TADC, even real-ass serial killers) just because "well, they have connections and I wanna see em fight. make them fight!"

Little Mac vs Ippo seems to be in this sad state of limbo where it’s big enough to have a large amount of fans that would be happy to see it, but too small to actually warrant it happening and honestly as a massive punch out fan and someone wanting to check out Ippo and his source material it’s kinda sad

These are all the Sans vs Judge connections that I know (obviously spoilers for both games ahead): 1. Undertale is partially inspired by OFF, and Sans by the Judge 2. Both appear throughout the story as comedic characters who clearly know a lot more about the world than you’d expect. 3. Visual similarities. 4. The protagonist kills each of their brothers and the queen that they’re friends with. 5. Both are “the weakest” of their kind, Sans being the weakest monster, Judge being the guardian of Zone 0. 6. Both are constantly observing to judge the actions of the player and protagonist, but they only actually step in when it’s far too late and everyone they know and love is already dead. 7. Both are literal monsters fighting a human, but the human is the real monster. 8. Both recognize that the protagonist is being controlled and since they know they can’t win appeal to the emotions of the player instead (Sans asks you to stop resetting and just leave the world as it is, Judge asks you to control him instead of the Batter) 9. In both games, if they’re defeated, the player and protagonist proceed to destroy the world. 10. They’re both accepting of the fact that they’ll live on in an empty world, preferring it to the alternative (The Judge prefers to live in an empty world than allow the person who killed his friends to complete his mission, Sans prefers to live in an empty world than to live in one that he knows the Time Anomaly will reset). 11. They both play with the perspective of the player a bit. If you join the judge, the Batter takes on a monstrous appearance which is canonically just a change in perspective. Sans has techniques like dodging or attacking you while you’re trying to think (in the menu), which appear weird because you’re a player playing an rpg, but are actually just expected outcomes in a fight. 12. This one I’m not certain on, I might be forgetting something from OFF. They’re both 4th wall breaking characters who aren’t 4th wall aware. Sans isn’t aware of what the player is, he just knows it as “The Anomaly” someone or something that’s causing timelines to die, shift, and reset en masse. He knows about this through a machine that lets him keep track of changes in the timeline, but he doesn’t seem to be aware that many of the timeline changes couldn’t have been the player, since Fliwey caused them before the start of the game. Similarly, I don’t think The Judge ever directly addresses the fact that he’s in a game. He directly addresses the player, but it seems like he thinks The Batter’s soul is a separate being helping the body complete it’s mission, and when he talks to the player he’s talking to said soul.

I don't really remember Pablo being particularly comedic. Only being verbose, taking advantage of The Batter completing a puzzle to reach a bowl of cat food, and being in denial on the death of his brother.

I am, admittedly, one of the few people who care about Kasen vs Fleetway, but the matchup does have connections. Both of them are stoic guardians of nature who at one point had a really nasty, evil side (Oni Kasen and Fleetway Sonic), that they had to ask someone else for help for to seal away Hope that helps!

I like both but it feels too niche of an entry into Touhou for the general audience. Fleetway even more so outside of the Sonic fandom. Plus it's such a specific version of him, that he seems more obscure than Archie I'd argue.

As a fan of xenoblade, I really recomend the game as its story us phenomenal especially if you go in blind. It's very good and shulk is an amazing protagonist.

Thats fair but I also can't blame someone for not finding him enjoyable. Like if Kazume flaws make someone uncomfortable to the point that they are not enjoying the show anymore then I can't blame them for not liking the show or character. At the end of the day the show is supposed to be entertaining and if those character flaws are taking away someones entertainment that i think its fair to not like the show or character if that makes any sense.

I gotta agree with you on the “bad feeling” part. I didn’t thing these matchups were terrible but I had, a very strong hunch, the ones that would interest me the least would win and given what we saw in semi finals my worries were probably justified.

This and last video really pissed me off, not because of the subject matter within them (far from that, the powerscaling video is flat out one of my new favorites of his), but how it’s put into perspective just how badly people in this community can’t take a differing viewpoint and just how reckless and… I guess the best way to put it is selfish they can be. It’s genuinely painful to see one of the biggest sources of inspiration of my life in recent memory be treated in such an upsetting manner. However, I would like to call myself out for a moment and apologize. I’m genuinely really sorry that I may have contributed to your dislike and frustration for Mythology matchups. It frustrates me hard to know that I have, even if in some ways unintentionally, insulted and hurt you and your culture. Your discussions of mythology, both on and off of KZread, have helped me understand it in many ways that I wouldn’t have before, so it guilts me to know that I may have and others definitely have hurt your culture and family. Stay strong Nemesis. Also on, HulkZilla… I do agree they should’ve done a different one (I.E. DestIris or GohanZero), but at least the Kaiju matchup this time was actually submitted.

Given how one of the team members has gone on record to state that the research for sans vs the judge would be done in under a day I think it is possible we may see it next season. I hope it is done eventually.

On your point about matchups involving Mythological figures, yeah, I see that a lot. I won't deny, I myself really want Coyote of Native America vs Kitsune of Japan and I realise I'm treading a very dangerous line with it. Looking into both, they are involved in religion and I don't blame anyone if the concept of a fight involving them is offensive. I am lucky enough to have there be non-religious tales of Kitsune and Coyote not often being deified, but I acknowledge the issues that can still be had with it. I'm actually writing a script for the matchup currently and I've gone through tons of revisions about what's covered in the analysis and what happens in the fight because I've been unsure about certain things here and there being appropriate. I'm hoping that I can stay respectful with it while also showing off what I love about the matchup. Soz for the ramble.

I ain’t a Champion but these were the matchups I would’ve voted for. 1. Shulk VS Lightning: I feel naive now, but I have more connection to Shulk due to Smash Bros. Plus the music potential could be great. 2. Gru VS Megamind: Obviously. 3. Composite Ryu VS Composite Goku. Even if It did win, it would not have aged well… for obvious reasons. 4. Hiccup and Toothless VS Hiro and Baymax. This is the matchup I have the most connections to. While I’m sad it lost, WileTom deserved the win. 5. Jimmy VS Dexter. This weeks matchups were actually hard to choose, as they could’ve all happened naturally. 6. X VS Primal. We need more Mega Man representation (even if X is a returner). Actually, Nemesis, thank you for teaching me how cool this matchup is! 7. Palpatine VS Xehanort. I know that it’s a stomp and a DBX was made, but villain matchups go hard! 8. Skeletor VS Lord Zedd. Skeletor is one of the most overdue characters in a Death Battle. Plus the banter would be gold. 9: GruMind. Hello, I am the gal who made the very Luke vs Saber defense post you talked about in this video, I wanna start this off by saying that the “to the person who made that defense post, I’m glad you like the matchup and hope you enjoy it if it happens” made me really happyajnaomjqmjos I respect your opinion 100%, I will say that even if it’s not something I want to go in depth into since that’s not the point of this comment I still HEAVILY disagree with many of the points you have made, but I really, really appreciate you for being nice about it! If it does happen (which I hope it does since it’s my most wanted) I genuinely really hope the waiting period will be easier for you than Frieza vs Megatron’s even if that’s gonna be…very difficult And honestly, I completely relate to how you feel when it comes to Fate discussions in the community, I fully read the FSN visual novel earlier this year and it has become one of my favorite media I have consumed and Saber has already become one of my favorite characters ever…but the amount of toxicity that came from certain people being mad that Luke vs Saber got on the tournament just made me feel..sad, especially since I was the one who submitted it into the ballot submissions, it just left me numb to talking about Saber/Fate matchups in general, im fine with people expressing dislike for the matchup I just wish they were nicer about it So yeah that’s all I wanted to say

I dont think a few people being an ass about myths is enough to not want them. We need to understand the clear distinction between myths and beliefs and understand where the line is. There are always people who use religion to scale a character. Like I saw someone scale Alucard to Dracula who scales to Christianity lol. It’s not exclusive to the mythology fights. But I would be surprised if any Christian would be offended if say an incredibly important story in Christian mythology like paradise lost or Dante’s divine comedy was analyzed. Especially if it’s done properly. I don’t even know why I’m defending Myth fights cause I personally don’t like many of them. But your reasoning isn’t really fair to all the people who truly want a good faith analysis of the Myths in question

As much as I think Zeus vs Odin is amazing, I understand how you may be turned off towards mythology match ups cause of some assholes. When working with mythological figures, people need to understand that some people do still worship certain ones, so being a malicious ass clown over it is not ok, no matter what the religion is. As a former christian myself though, I was never super protective or pissy about seeing it used in media like video games, I mean Darksiders or Bayonetta would probably be seen as a total bastardization by some, yet I love those all the same. But if you are going to do it, at least either show the proper care, or at least avoid being outright malicious with it. It's why I like Smite, cause at least they do the proper research, and actively consult experts on the myths and religions they work with. Also it sucks that you got bullied over some of these match ups. I KNEW the moment they announced megs vs frieza that you were gonns have a bad time cause some assholes just can't help themselves.

I'm sorry, but you heavily oversimplified Shulk vs Lightning. Shulk is one of the best fictional characters (at least to me). He makes actual human decisions, no stupid, comedic stupid decisions. As a fan of Hulk vs Godzilla I agree that it had absolutely no business being on this poll. As time goes on it's been considered as one of the better alts for both so I won't be surprised if it happens eventually. It's not anything that would need to be fan voted in to get on the show. For me, I strictly talk about it in an matchup. Part of my heritage being German leans more onto Odin. I personally apologize for any part of me supporting the matchup that offended you. I strongly agree Week 8 lineup was very good. Another major thing people doesn't fully realize about The Grinch vs Jack Skellington. Halloween is Grinch Night special exists, both these characters has something related to two holidays. Which means they could do the episode close to Halloween or Christmas.

Here to comment about the Sans Vs The Judge comment because thats all i came to this video for, i belive the matchup is related to both characters judging the player's decisions (sans as in judging the player's joice to commit genocide and pablo questioning the player for if they wanted to stay on the playable character's side after killing a child which was required to do by the game) Its also kind of related from the fact that OFF inspired toby to create undertale, Either way im just gkad we're getting indie representation because these games are some of my favourite.

That image you saw was actually all the fighting they had. Paperfinz in his review of the Marvel Godzilla series explained why the Godzilla vs Hulk fight happened off-screen in a potentially non-canon strip at the end of the comic, but to summarise, the main artist of the book had worked on the Incredible Hulk run of the time and by the time Godzilla came to Marvel he was sick of drawing the Hulk. The comic strip was most likely added to somewhat satisfy the fans who wanted to see that fight.

Gotta agree with you on Hulk vs. Godzilla, that matchup is lame as hell. If people want Godzilla back (which isn't necessarily warranted), use one of his more unique iterations. If people are staying up at night waiting for big, green man dub (even after both of his episodes were at least solid), sort some things out. I see people wanting MCU Hulk vs. Monsterverse Godzilla, but the problems are still there. And to be honest, who cares about MCU Hulk outside of time travel memes? Can't even remember the actor's name most of the time.

At least it isn’t like last year’s Kaiju matchup where they flat out overruled another person’s submission in favor for another matchup.

So to get some clarity for Sans vs Judge out of the way so that I can gush more about how much I desperately wanted it to win, the connections are that they're smiling monsters and technically the weakest characters in the game that end up watching everyone they care about get killed by the player character. It's really strong, and I'm paraphrasing a lot of it, and the dynamic is great. That's why I hate that it's gonna lose to Kratos vs Asura

Thanks for defending Percy vs Zagreus. It's a sleeper pick for the poll. Not my favorite for either, but still a damn good alt. And yeah, I get why you're not a fan of Percy vs Harry, but if you give them everything, it becones a damn good matchup. If you want to learn more about either Percy or Zag, (with all the energy and time a youtuber who writes, edits and publishes his own vidoes have) the Percy Jackson Books are a fun read, and Hades is one of the greatest games of all time. Especially the Percy Jackson books since they have the chaotic neutral humor you seem to enjoy.
