DEADLY Finishing Move (Step Through Tutorial)

Спорт

The Step Through (up & under) is really underrated finishing move. Fake out your defender with a pump fake in the lane, then step by him for an open layup.

self pass to the backboard is illegal in most leagues btw. if the ball hits the backboard of the offense and referee sees it as a non shooting attempt the backboard is treated as the floor. so if you used up your dribble and do that it is a double dribble.

Yeah, we play REAL BASKETBALL! Not that 3 and 4 step layup crap or that pro hop double jump traveling mess! That’s some new stuff that they just started and you didn’t EVER see Jordan and Magic and all them doing that stuff because that’s traveling. Old school hand check, hard pick, no blood no foul basketball is how you learn to play basketball because you will always be unstoppable if you stick with that play style. It’s harder, it’s rougher and it takes more skill to play that way. That’s why Fiba and European leagues even invented that stuff like the pro hop because they couldn’t play that old NBA real style basketball. Why do you think Toni Kukoc and Vlade Divac were super dominant in Europe but were just okay in the NBA? That’s a style of play that was too much for them at the time. Once they started Euro-cizing the NBA was when everyone started becoming softer more lazier players. That’s why you have centers and power forwards that run the perimeter and can’t play the post or be defensive beasts in the paint. The modern day NBA players barely play any defense! Steal leaders with 7 and 8 steals! Cmon man! Y’all are just a soft generation of ballers and if you have to do things the actual way they were initially made you all cry and complain about it until things can go your way. Sometimes I don’t even like playing with young dudes out there because I score 8 points in a row and they just stop defending me and let me get my points because they are just like “he’s gonna hit them little jumpers anyway”. That’s such a waste and they still don’t think to guard me harder they just give up on me and start pressing a teammate of mine harder so that I possibly don’t get the ball. It never works but it’s something I see all the time. Y’all need to stop playing soft basketball and quit complaining about old school ways and actually learn them.

@@brendanbloom3366 You can pick anecdotes, and reference old players. But the game is changing & data don't lie - if we are talking about average PPP in the modern game then the mid-range (0.84 PPP) is laughably inefficient compared to threes (1.06 PPP) and shots at the rim (1.37 PPP). These are averages from the current NBA season. Against defenses who run you off the line you can go for flyby or sidestep threes, drive & kicks, or finish against the rim protector who's often late / not there because of defensive 3 seconds. All those options are more efficient than a mid range shot.

Difference between a step through (which is legal) and a hop through (which is illegal) Most of the clips at the beginning were completely legal as they kept their pivot on the ground during the step through. The problem is that many people people hop through in order to gain extra distance from the defender while simultaneously traveling. The clip at 1:34 and others like it are not proper step throughs and should be called out. I see people all the time treating step throughs like a normal one two step when in reality it’s just a player utilizing their non pivot as a step while keeping their pivot in contact with the ground until the shot.

Interesting point. Can you quote the rule that disallows a "hop through"?

Luka Donocic walked his @$$ off at the 4:33 mark in the clip where he’s wearing the orange shoes and they are showing the footage overhead. That’s not a good example, he got lucky that they did not see/call him with that mess!

It's sloppy but he fumbles and then dribbles again (hard to see) before establishing his pivot foot with the gather, then steps through. Borderline, but not a clear travel really.
