Performance Notes
Bob Weir and John Barlow’s state-of-the-planet address, “Throwing Stones” made its live debut in the Grateful Dead’s repertoire in 1982, in the midst of a long recording drought by the band, and so would not turn up on record until the release of the Dead’s breakthrough commercial success, “In The Dark,” in 1987. It was performed many times by the Dead and by subsequent ensembles featuring the band members, but it would be hard to imagine a more timely and powerful setting for the song than this one, at the show Dead & Company played in Sunrise, Florida less than two weeks after the mass shooting at nearby Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, for an audience that included numerous survivors of the tragedy and their families. Weir brings a special intensity and passion to his vocal, fully equaled by the band’s accompaniment. - Gary Lambert

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.
Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

This is perhaps the best version of this song I've ever heard and the lyrics have only grown in power and pertinence over the years! Thank you John Mayer for making this happen!!

How do you like it now that we are getting ready to be nuked?? I love the Grateful Dead but now Bobby is in the Bohemian club. What happened?
Here June 13, 2020. Now more than ever. This this THIS.
I don't know if I've ever heard Bobby sing with so much emotion. Those kids had an impact on him and the whole band. This was amazing.

I was at this show...this band is such a class act. Less than 2 wks after a mass shooting, The boys were able to play tribute to those who were effected without uttering a single word about it. They responded with music🎶🎶🎶 The encore brought tears to my eyes that very special evening❤️ They made everything ok for a few short hours. Thank you Dead & Co.

@@cynlcole4649 I'm sitting here crying my eyes out listening watching this.
This show was 12 days after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (MSD). As a Parkland resident whose daughter was a student at the school, I was thankful to be able to attend with several other students and parents. The meeting with the band during the break was special and I will always cherish. The set list was so appropriate for the evening. As a long time Dead Head whose first show was in 1977, it was just what the doctor ordered. Thanks again to Dead & Company for a truly memorable evening!

Hands down best version of this song I've ever heard!!! Outstanding!
John's solo in this one is incredible. The true guitar masters can make a guitar speak, and his solo here is almost like a choir for the kids. You can really feel how much heart and emotion was being poured out by John and the whole band. BTW, I always love Bill's little grins when one of the guys are really on a tear, and you could see his emotion here too.

Everything about this was awesome
My favorite... love this version (~);}
Its dizzying with possibilities
Nice laid back tempo - great version.
Love it! Thanks for an awesome flashback. Jerry would be proud.
Excellent version of this tune & I think Jerry would continue to smile, seeing the guys still jamming & approve of John & Oteil.

it is such a shame you tube interrupts this beautiful song like 5 times. Awesome Version!!!!!
We drove straight from NOLA to this show then Orlando to close out the tour. Highlight of the show for me but the NOLA show was the best of the tour IMO.
No more killing, food and water for everyone, the way the world is supposed to be, human family
Nice ☮️
Peaceful place so it looks from space, closer look reveals the human race.
The Mayer of Guitar... and very, very moving. One of my favorites.
I love this, no criticism, my thought is Jerry’s attack on the notes conveyed the meaning of the lyrics right into the music, John is clearly not as comfortable as he one day will be with getting it early in the song. Bravo, Weir de mighty sage, mon!
There is no doubt, jerry is proud!

Live through in real life what the words say and it will harden your ability to care.
Sounds like a 45 playing at 33.
I never understood what's with the very happy progression at the end, as this song is so satirical, cuz it has such corny cadences that are just too satisfying. Now I do, it's a mockery.
