Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.
Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

What? This is John after a week of showers and a butt massage... Best version was when they were all strung out in CIti .
The chemistry between John and Jeff has really become great. Jeff is stellar considering he is now the longest tenured keyboardist that they have ever had and really is the glue keeping the band together and tight. John is a force now and I once thought this was an odd pairing of him as the guitar player but he is incredible. I always liked his prowess on the guitar but Jerry is a tough guy to follow and he has done admirably. Oteill is also an amazing musician and absolutely great on bass. The guys are still going strong.

Go Johnny go, I remember when he first started with Dead and Company and got all that flack. Nice to see the dead heads showing him love finally
Mayer has really grown as a musician since this all began. Much less flashy playing now and much more feeling. 2022 its even more apparent as he's seemed to learn to blend 'holding back' at the right moments to finding the confidence to explore new areas live and also the confidence to let loose at the right moments. Less of the 'Stevie Ray Vaughn' style. Throws down some seriously cool and unique licks. Personally I'm a big fan of this lineup. Keep it up, John! You are killing it and we love you.
This is actually really good.. it's not just John trying to be Jerry and sing Sugaree.. it's John's interpretation of Sugaree, entirely. What a respectable version of this great song..

Yes, he makes it his own while retaining the spirit, for lack of a better word, of Jerry and making it seem as if both of them are on stage, if you close your eyes. If he didn't add his own ingredients to playing this music & just tried to sound like Jerry all the time it would get boring after a while. Kind of like those people who try to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn ALL the time.

Two part comment: John did the right thing, and didn't try to replicate Jerry, he added his own voice. Bruce Hornsby did the same when he sat in on keyboards, he was so distinctive. Oteill, you are a bass master, such an amazing player, and bring a smile and great voice to the mix every time. And without the keyboards from Jeff, this band wouldn't have the fullness of sound and texture, Brent and later Bruce were amazing, however Jeff is right there in the mix, and adds such support. Keep jamming lads, you are still loved.

Part two: We are witnessing the revival of The Dead, and I think most longtime listeners for decades know this. Now my pertinent question is: Do we have original songs to introduce? A new album of material? Let's not rest on our laurels, and Robert Hunter's great lyrics, let's craft new material for The Dead, and keep it from the heart! I have lyrics, and musical ideas and song sheets to start from, and could put together several songs in a week's time for the band. Time for The Grateful Unfolding, Next Generation... put me to the test.
@ronin_returns

While it seems outdated now, some bands lend themselves through their musical style to orchestral work. John Meyer is incredibly talented, and has classical training, and can easily adapt to that format. The next Terrapin Station is on the horizon, and at least for those who follow The Grateful Dead, we still have a sharp memory of that era. Drop in the likes of Alison Krauss on female vocals, and you are golden guys, when she pairs with John, or if she is busy, a similar vocalist. And if you Really want to set this train a'-coming, have Jack White sit in with John, and blow everyone's mind with his creativity. Jack knows old time music, and writes it, and makes the new songs sound like the old traditional ones, and if you get Jack and John creating together, just let that Deal Go Down, and you'll see the cards come up. A week or two in studio or on the road, at most, and you'd have the best creative compilation you could imagine, I know this for a fact. Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann do you guys just exist on a different plane of drumming entirely, or still remain inter-dimensionally somewhere in a 1970's time warp/lock with a version of Space/Drums that never stopped? It is like listening to a few thousand years of drumming from twenty different cultures and musical styles, and my prayers go out for the road crew that has to haul that kit around for you, and help get it set up. When I first heard The Grateful Dead, in 1990, at Greensboro Coliseum, I had no idea who you were, but lived a few blocks away. I assure you, simply by walking up the street, or going out my door, I could hear the entire show. So you hereby stand, guilty and Grateful as charged, for creating another Deadhead! How do you plea before this court of Loving Music?? Do you have any defense for this rampant positivity you have so insidiously spread? Bailiffs and bus drivers, take these musicians away to their next gig for twenty or more years.

If you aren’t knowledgeable enough , then don’t knock it and learn. Bobby is one of the most underrated and misunderstood master Rythm slide driving whole full guitar player who created a very unique style that is incredible. So sit back and watch how they kill this song with call recall guitars and keys abound.
I like John Mayer and his music but I really don’t think he fits on stage with the Dead. His body movements, his style and voice just don’t fit the band. I don’t like his voice on my old classics.
