Grateful Dead - Sugaree (Winterland 10/18/74) (Official Live Video)
Музыка
"When we were producing the DVD of The Grateful Dead Movie in 2004, the first unreleased song we transferred to see if we'd be able to include bonus songs was this version of Sugaree. It was selected for a number of reasons: it was excellent; there were several camera angles filmed, and it was short-enough to do a test on. Once the 16mm film was transferred and edited, and then synced with the audio, we realized we'd be able to include plenty of bonus material. This wonderful Sugaree began that process." - David Lemieux

Will you come with me? Won't you come with me? There's no better place to take a long strange trip with the Grateful Dead than right here. We've got music from every single studio album and a bevy of live albums, to boot. There are celebrated live performances from the 70s and 80s and official videos with more skeletons than you can shake your bones at, an exclusive seaside series on what's to come from the band's rich catalog and details on meet-ups all across the promised land. If it's community you’re after, try your hand at our yearly DEAD COVERS PROJECT competition and connect with fellow Dead Heads around the world. Heck, keep your eyes peeled you might even catch a glimpse of Pigpen on keys, Jerry in a GROOVE, Bobby tellin' tales, Mickey talkin' space, Phil and friends, Bill on the beach, or anyone from our extended family.
It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

I remember some years back I made some moccasins during a great ful read patch and tried to sale them on ETSY and some spokesperson from greatful dead merchandising contacted me for copyright infringement. To this day I still haven't sold the moccasins. Cool looking moccasins s though.
Everytime I come here I like all the comments so they have a reason to come here out the blue. Sometimes it's the pass on that counts.

All of Jerry's songs including this one were co-written with Robert Hunter - Jerry wrote the music, Robert wrote the lyrics. An absolute genius.
I remember jamming to this song with my dad back in the day all the time. He passed a few years back and every time I hear this it takes me back to smokin and havin a few beers with my dad in the backyard
The world should be grateful for Jerry
This is my time with the Dead, I am 69, and the 70’s were my golden years living with the Dead😹
God Jerry looks SO young 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Just like I did , just like everyone else did , just like what young people now will look 40 years from now.
That's not music. It's medicine.

For the first time I really listened to Kreutzmann's drumming on THIS song. I'd always liked his playing but I couldn't figure out why. Now I got it. He held his sticks in the "traditional grip" instead of "matching" in the American style. He didn't begin playing jazz, but he LEARNED about playing in that style on his own, following some of the outstanding jazz players at the time. What a guy! I also learned that he learned a lot about drumming from...guess who? Mickey Hart, of course!
One of the best tunes ever performed by Jerry . The lyrics are well written as well as the melodic section

its super nice. I heard it was the heroine that started to get him and started to effect his pipes. Its messed up what a few years on heroine can do to a person, if you want to see a zombie absolutely shred a guitar watch the Dead in the early-mid 80s. I heard a quote from Jerry that he wasn't down with equating drugs with death, but in my opinion that was a terrible misstep by this beautiful man, the amount his body aged in 20 years is so sad
Keep gravitating back to the music of my generation. Gerry has a way of luring me with his liltful music. My joyful wknd. Fix!
When I was young I ran away, when I got to the Appalachian mountains I heard this song and fell in love with it. I was so young, too young to know about the blues but I knew them too well. Im still running, and listening to sugaree.outlaw for life, lonely road, but that's what it takes. Last of a dying breed. Just don't tell em you know me
Probably my favorite dead song...especially the live version...jerry just had that voice!!!

This is such a great song
One of the best videos that highlights Bob's guitar playing.
The first Grateful Dead concert I went to was in 1972 at the Fox theatre in St. Lou. I've loved them ever since. I've seen them @ folsom stadium along with the Bonzo and Bolo Bus in Boulder and all the freaky s*** that permiated the surround. I've also seen them at red rocks in Morrisonp Colorado. All their songs are ingrained in my heart and the only other bands that in my book come even close to them are the Eagles and The Band. Can't get better than this s*** rock on peeps.. P.S. I also like everything from George Strait to Gillian Welch.
When I started playing guitar 25 years ago - this was the song I would play along with - over and over and over again. I learned how to solo covering this song. I think it's Dicks Picks vol3, from Florida that has the most smoking version of this song - that's the version I would play to. I love hearing Jerry sing this one.

Sugaree- lyrics When they come to take you down When they bring that wagon around When they come to call on you And drag your poor body down Just one thing I ask of you Just one thing for me Please forget you knew my name My darlin' Sugaree Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me You thought you was the cool fool And never could do no wrong Had everything sown up tight How come you lay awake all night long? Just one thing I ask of you Just one thing for me Please forget you knew my name My darlin' Sugaree Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me You know, in spite of all you gained You still had to stand out in the pouring rain One last voice is calling you And I guess it's time you go Just one thing I ask of you Just one thing for me Please forget you knew my name My darlin' Sugaree Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it up now Sugaree I'll meet you at the jubilee And if that jubilee don't come Baby I'll meet you on the run Just one thing I ask of you Just one thing for me Please forget you know my name My darlin' Sugaree Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it, shake it Sugaree Just don't tell them that you know me
