Dead Can Dance (Very Rare) 2008, Remastered 4AD Records Promo

Музыка

The title says it all. KZread has just about everything but it didn't have this gem yet! A special promo sampler release from my KZSC Santa Cruz radio broadcasting days. I actually like the album sequencing flow of this collection just as much as any of their other official releases. Fully remastered, and sounds great to me!

The first time I heard this group was back in Phoenix, AZ back in 1994, while I was going to school at DeVry University. The song that really hooked me was The Ubiquitous Mr. Love Groove. For years I tried to find it then out of the blue I heard it on the radio in Salt Lake City, UT in a fast food drive thru lane waiting for our food. I told my wife about this song then some friends gave me a burned CD of the record it was from.

The first time i heard about Dead Can Dance was the voice of Lisa Gerrard on the Soundtrack of Gladiator. I instantly fell in love with the passion in her voice. I consider this movie and the soundtrack still as one of the best ever recorded soundtracks. But DCD still belongs to the best artists in the music industry when it comes to this kind of music.

DCD are a a really good at tapping corners of music not in the main stream, with rich and etherial emotive experiences. From so many levels their songs approach from the light and shadow of the world and history. This is indeed, is a good offering of music from a number of their albums up through 2008, showing subtle brilliance in a number of their slower songs and the diversity by which they channel their focuses. A great upload... Thank you.

I grew up/was raised in Santa Cruz. I was introduced to this band before even completing my first circle around the sun, my mother played their music to my twin and I every night on a CD she burned for us to fall asleep to. I started making art myself as soon as physically possible. I’m now 25 and just started writing music of my own for the first time, with instruments previously unavailable to me, because GarageBand allows me to digitally play instruments that I don’t have the means to own. I had ideas of the kind of music that I wanted to create, but I just started messing around instead, without a direction in mind. I always thought that I’d want to make Deathrock or Darkwave. After a few hours I had completed my first song and I surprised myself with the direction and energy of what I came out of it with. I’m so used to needing to tirelessly labor to develop skill in any medium, never satisfied or proud of my work, even if others consider my work skillful, but for the first time in my life, I surprised myself by feeling inherent talent in what I created. It reminded me more of Dead Can Dance than anything, which was very unexpected for me. The way this band influences and affects art, even subconsciously, is really something special.

Thank you for posting. I am a huge fan since the days of Spleen & Ideal. You are very correct, this is an excellent representation of their work. Great overview for the uninitiated and obviously fun for the seasoned enthusiast. 8 selections from their first 8 releases. Also a good introduction is found on "A Passage in Time" (their first compilation and first widely distributed and popular US release). But it only sampled 4 of their first 5 albums. Looking forward to the much much delayed and delayed again 2020 US Tour...
