DDR5 Performance Tested on Intel 12th Gen: 6000MHz CL36 Tested in Gaming and Production

Ғылым және технология

In this video we examine the performance of one of the fastest (and most expensive) DDR5 RAM kits you can currently buy. Can this 6000MHz CL36 Kit from G.Skill, using Samsung IC's, beat high performance DDR4?
We've got gaming and some production benchmarks looking at it's performance, to assess whether the time is right to move to DDR5 or if there's still life in DDR4 yet.

Hi man thanks for your help. I'm building my first pc essentially for amatorial video editing in 4k. So you think that also now is not convinient to buy a cheap DDR5 with related motherboard? Because i see that now there are some banks of DDR5 not so expensive. I want to keep my pc for many years so in case of real improvements of DDR5 latency i could change them later without all other components. Thanks

I TOTALLY over saw the MHz on my previous build and only got 32GB @ 2666mhz and couldn’t understand why my 3080ti was under performing, this vid really helped and feel a bit of donut for not check this! lol. I had a question though, Will DDR5 improve over time with software? (Not like the hilarious websites saying you download more Ram but more improvements with performance?)

DDR5 is improving all the time and has improved since this video was made. We'll also see memory controllers on future CPUs get better performance -and yes, motherboard manufacturers testing with new kits will also increase speeds and bring down timing. Just like the DDR4 market matured, we'll see the same with DDR5 over the next few years.

I think we'll see the benefits of DDR5 when the latency improves. CL40 and 30 are just unacceptable and it's just marketing because each year they'll slowly release the better DDR5 to make us keep buying.

Really conflicted on what to do. Currently running an I7 4770K with 16bg of DDR3 and a 3070FE (got the 3070 recently and want to build around it). Was thinking of doing an i7 12700k and wainting a couple of months for DDR5 to possibly drop a little in price so I'd have a future proof motherboard for better DDR5 later on. Now just thinking about going with a DDR4 motherboard for the i7. As you can tell I don't upgrade often. I game at 1440p so just about figured I won't see a difference between 3600 16 latency DDR4 compared to DDR5.

Yeah, I honestly don't think you need to over-think it. Both systems will perform astoundingly well, it's just that one will come in $300 or so cheaper! Future proofing isn't really a thing. If you get a 12th gen CPU, DDR5 board and RAM, by the time you need to upgrade RAM, a new CPU and motherboard will be the sensible choice anyway. I say either build on this platform now with DDR4, or if your exisiting system can limp on a year, 13th Gen should have seen pricing and availability of DDR5 improve to the point it'll make sense.

It was already the case with DDR3 / DDR4. I recently bought a new high-end machine but I made the mistake of not getting enough information, so my DDR5 memory sticks, compatible with 7200 cl34, only work in 6400 cl40. Fortunately, this has little impact on the performance of a high-end machine, and fortunately too I have a large financial margin for my next configuration, but it is expensive in the end. And that's the problem at a time when the crisis doubles the price of hardware. It's been over ten years since I had my old PC so I could afford it. I'll be more careful when buying my next machine. You learn the hard way too.

Yeah, but really DDR5, like DDR3 to DDR4, should be better from the word go. Charging stupid money for basically a downgrade. I certaininly wont be buying any of it. At the end of the day, if you bring something new out on the market, then it's a requirement to be better - The fucking idiots. If they can't do low timings with the memory that makes it an upgrade from DDR4, then don't release it. I guess some stupid people will still buy it because it's DDR5.
