    Thanks for the excellent video. I was considering the 12600K; but at its price point it now makes more sense to save up a bit of cash and buy the 12700F instead. Great video - I love this channel! I have a few questions: So it is perfectly reasonable to pair an i7-12700 with a B660 motherboard? If Intels powers requirements can't be trusted, where do I find out what PSU to use for my build? Will pcpartpicker take this into account when calculating the expected wattage?

  • @BuildPicker

    @BuildPicker

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, an i7-12700 paired with a good B660 board is the sleeper-powerhouse of the Alderlake generation. You need a B660 with solid VRMs and power limits lifted to obtain full performance from the CPU. That's where the power requirements matter - the Motherboard power delivery to the CPU. In reality, any reasonable PSU will power an i7-12700 just fine. We include peak all core power levels in our CPU reviews, and so do a lot of other outlets like Gamers Nexus, Anandtech and others. Our builds over on buildpicker.com take this information into account to ensure you get great CPU and motherboard pairings, and PSUs that are up to the job as well!

  • @BuildPicker

    Realistically, H670 is a no-mans land which is why we see so few options. B660 does everything you could reasonably need, Z690 has the over-the-top specification with everything you could want. H670 has a few tweaks, but in reality offers neither the value of B660 (from a board makers perspective) nor the all out approach of Z690.

    Hi, thanks for making this amazing video! I have some questions: 1) What should I go with, i5-12400F or i5-12600KF? (I don't play heavy shooting/other games, I want to do basic editing, I do multitasking a lot and I want to stream) 2) Should I go with a 3060Ti ($500) or 3070 ($600) with an i5? I am just wondering if I could get some real value for spending 100 bucks more. 3) Is the air cooler enough for the i5 with all my needs? Can you recommend some? 4) Lastly, will I get the same performance in both i5-12600 and i5-12600k without over clocking?

  • @BuildPicker

    @BuildPicker

    2 жыл бұрын

    1) Given editing and streaming, I'd avoid the F CPUs - get a 12400, 12500 or 12600 as the iGPU can help you out both for editing (transcoding and encoding) and streaming (encoding your stream as an option). 2) The 3060Ti performs very similarly to the 3070, same amount of VRAM and only a small amount faster - so I'd save the money there, the 3060TI is very capable. 3) I'd upgrade the cooler for heavier workloads, check out our 'best cooler for the i5' video to find out more. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZmxqvMumYarblNY.html 4) The 12600K will perform a lot better in encoding/rendering as it has 4 additional e-cores. in gaming and tasks that can't use the e-cores, the 12600 is very close to the 12600K.

  • @angrysocialjusticewarrior

    @angrysocialjusticewarrior

    Currently, the only GPU that gets bottlenecked (slightly) by the i5 12400 is the RTX 3090 Ti. Therefore anything up to an RTX 3080 Ti does not get bottlenecked by the i5 12400. Intel 12th gen is a very fast cpu generation. In gaming, the i5 12400 is faster than the i7 10700k, faster than the i5 11600k, and faster than the i9 11900k. The i9 10900k is faster than the i9 11900k, so the new i5 is sometimes slower than the i9 10900k in some games, and sometimes faster than the i9 10900k in other games. So as you can see, the i5 12400 beats all previous high end cpu's and only the fastest cpu from previous generations (the i9 10900k) can beat the i5 12400 (but only slightly). So don't worry, your 3060ti is nothing for the i5. In fact, your i5 won't need to work too hard because its still too fast for your 3060 ti to keep up.

    If more gaming than editing, the 3060Ti option. If more editing than gaming, go for the i7 and 3060!

    If it's what you can afford, yes, it's an excellent Gaming CPU at $100 or so. There's nothing at the price that touches it.

    @@GarstikusMaximus The trash b660 motherboards are designed precisely for cpu's like the i3. You don't even need VRM cooling if using the i3 12100. So if the i3 is what you are looking for, you can save a lot of money on both the cpu and the mobo. The non trash mobo's are only relevant when looking at an i5 or higher.

    Hi! I've got a small question. You said that F CPUs don't have an iGPU and they shouldn't be used for video editing, but can they be used if I have a discrete GPU?

  • @BuildPicker

    Yes, they can - but the iGPU accelerates things even a discrete GPU can't, so they're still worthwhile! My iGPU sits at about 30% utilisation whilst encoding these videos: It's doing the h.264 heavy lifting.

    12600k also can undervolt on b660 so that's another big plus, efficiency expecially in multicore scenario 12400 use around 70w - can run with the stock cooler for all usage 12500 around 85 - can run with stock cooler for gaming now, render and future more intensive games would need aftermarket cooler 12600 around 115 - Intel stock cooler is never gonna make it That running Cinebench r23 12600 is quite hard to cool because of the huge thermal density

    Amd CPUS are expensive but motherboards are cheap and its the opposite for Intel.....I think Intel motherboards will come down in price at the sane time AMD CPUs do after release of 6000 series.Ill go for the cheaper option then,in few months.
