The only thing that bugged me about Lennox is how he would push opponents on the ground (he was usually the taller one) in the clinch, just seemed dirty.

samoan SAIYAN Definitely!! Judge Lane was truly the cream of the crop when it comes to referees. No-nonsense, tough, objective. I always wished Lane had refereed all the fights that Richard Steele blundered. Those two were like night and day, and I don’t mean skin color, either!

1 - First of all, R.I.P. Tommy, it was a real pain to lose a great fighter. 2 - There was the Lennox Lewis that began to grow and grow with Manny Steward: both fitted like a glove to make Lennox a GOAT: that stiff jab pumping like a piston as the path to victory that painted so many faces, the left hook and that brutal uppercut and dominance of the ring you would not expect from Pepe Correa's Lennox... he acheived to dominate the ring, could switch from a cautious Lennox to a very agressive Lennox while facing always difficult opponents instead of "cherry picking" ordinary fighters: many young people comes now to watch this golden era of boxing in which every single fight was hard. 3 - A tribute to Mills Lane: one of the best referees ever that had a deep understanding of boxing. Stopping this fight was a clear "ok, good enough, nothing is at stake in there and none of the contenders deserves any unnecessary punishment".

Morrison was similar to Tyson in many ways. But the biggest difference, IMO, was footwork. Tyson was always grounded and sat on his punches. Morrison had a tendency to sell out his punches more, often 'jumping' to throw. Not only did this leave him vulnerable, but it also made the next punch less effective, and it also became a fatigue factor.

@@imadeyoureadthis1500 I know he was sick with HIV but i very much doubt he was sick here,i don't think he ever fought while he was ill, even though he said he did, i cant see how that's possible, no boxing Commission would allow any fighter with HIV to fight, it would be a disaster waiting to happen fighters get cut, if both fighters are cut and one has HIV then that very dangerous, no Commission in their right mind would allow that to happen. If he did fight while ill though Somebody's on his side is having blood tests for him and urine tests to cover it up, even thats very hard comprehend unless drug testing and disease testing wasn't as strict as it is today, they did test for such disease though like HIV and hepatitis c and b etc etc in those days, they did it in every sport except pro wrestling. I have heard that rumour though and read about it ,but i have never seen any official people such as the Commission certifying it as truth, if they did they would be liable in court for knowing he had HIV and letting him fight 58 opponents, it would also discredit them hugely as a boxing Commission they would most probably be prosecuted and shut down, and sued by 58 fighters I don't personally believe it my self even though i have actually watched people make video's about it and read articles about it

Lennox Lewis is an all time great HW champion. Would have been a tough fight for any HW champ of any era. Great movement, height, length, footwork, and hand speed; a superior boxer with a puncher's power, he doesn't get the recognition, here in the states at least, that I think he should.

Well, my 'dark favorite' of that era was Ray Mercer, but then he got caught taking a dive so he lost credibility, and he was never as consistently dominant like Lewis.

@@durtyragoux totally agree, for me Lewis is top 3 ever, along with Ali and Holmes. regarding Mercer, i dont really ever see anyone mention him so props fella, Mercer was such a formidable fighter, you only have to see his record and the fighters he went the distance with, probably the greatest chin of any heavy. But the diving issue is a blot on his record, not the first fighter to do and certainly not the last but big minus against him as a fighter.

One of the best uses of the heavy weight jab I have ever seen. Morrison was taken out early on by that powerful jab. Morrison totally got the approach wrong for this fight, he would have had a much better chance, if he had of risked getting inside moving his head (Tyson style) to fight a war with Lewis. Even then, Lewis right would have been very capable of stopping Morrison, but there was no way Morrison was ever going to win that fight bystanding on the outside and getting plummeted by that Jab. Great champion lewis, for me he never quite got the respect and world acclaim that he deserved. Loved watching Tommy fight, lots of heart, killer left hook RIP.

Good points and I agree on all of them. Lewis’ only real shortcoming was he had a little bit of a weak chin. He was hard to hit, but if you could get a clean power shot on him, he didn’t always take it that well. Otherwise, he had no flaws.

Previously I had said that Morrison was never a pro , I'm backing out of that , Morrison was a real tough guy and stood with Lewis for 6 rds no amateur could ever do that . I forgot about Morrisons. substance issues . That'll always take your edge off

Lewis's ring craft, and Tommy's instability, both were shown here to be on the up..

Loved Tommy but Lennox was one of the best of all time. Too big, strong and skilful for Tommy and most other boxers.

Tommy didn’t have a weak chin, his losses against Mercer and Bentt, he just got tagged good and proper. It happens. That’s heavyweight boxing. Morrison was awesome a tough SOB, with some good wins under his belt, a throwback fighter. Morrison could say have an arena fight with Lennox or Carl Williams then 3 months later fight at some hick bar room C/B level fight. He just fought, he had like over 200 plus amateur fights to with only like 20 losses. Retired at the age of 27, so think he still had a good 10 years in him. So we lost ten years of Tommy Morrison fights. He was good think he had something like 45 wins 2 losses. At 27. No one fights like that anymore.

Lewis is one of the best boxers of all time

He was very good before Steward became his trainer, but he could occasionally be tagged (eg. Mccall, Rahman), but Steward took him to another level, where he jabbed more effectively, planted his feet better. He was actually improving in his 30s and probably could have stayed very competive for a few more years.

2 great warriors, the ref is made the best call, protecting Tommy from permanent eye damage...

It must have been demoralizing to fight Lewis , as he was so strong and huge . On top of that he was a very good fighter.

Morrison fought all the toughest fighters. He did not dodge anyone. He didn’t have a weak chin either, he fought the heavy hitters

Mills Lane is always in charge. My favorite ref.

In my opinion this fight was the beginning of Lennox Lewis's prime, the night he took his game to another level and definitely turned a corner. He was good before this fight, but during and after it he truly became one of the greatest. From this fight till the night Rahman knocked him out he was unstoppable for seven years.

Heaviest I've ever seen Morrison look. Broad through the mid section. He was usually more tapered. He was HIV positive by this point, but probably more his out of ring lifestyle (boozing, and broads) was effecting his fitness.

Lewis was a great, tall jab fighter that also had power. A really tough opponent for the tough, shorter power punchers like Tyson and Morrison. A consumate pro. The heavyweight division was so strong in the 1990s, and competitive with Tyson's (slight) slippage in those days.

Tommy had a very good career although it could have been better if his defence was more tight. Also his pace needed to be more controlled, he gassed out early. He had the power, speed, and offensive skills for sure. He also had heart. One of my favourite boxers.

I really think Morrison was very similar to Tyson, in his exciting powerful style, but also his knock out rate coming up the ranks. I'm sure people on here will say Morrison was no match for Tyson, but when you really look at it, they were both impressive with knocking out lesser opponents quickly on their journey up the rankings, & then both got complacent with training & conditioning, until both coming up short against real skillful boxers who could keep them at arms length. Would have loved to see them come together when they were both hungry fighters.

I'm British BTW, I would rather watch morrison than Lewis any day I always found lennox over rated and boring, morrison was given a very poor review by the commentators he was fighting all the way to the end despite his eye

You can find Morisson more attractive to watch but Lewis is a little too much. No one is more underrated than Lewis, I mean pseudo-expert Joe Rogan recently asked the strange question if Tyson Fury was the HW GOAT. By his logic Lewis doesn't even exist. This box fans generation seems to be confused.

Tommy put up a good fight considering he could only see out of one eye! Respect where it's due.

Morrison was a pretty good heavyweight. Lewis is the best heavyweight of the last 35-40 years.

This was Tommy's way to get one last big pay day,wasn't ever in the fight

Morrison was a very good fighter, he would have been a great fighter if he had trained properly all the time. But he was more interested in having a good time and paid dearly for it.

Lewis the man what a boxer

Excellent as always Mills Lane superb , this is the best I've seen Lenox Lewis fight, his body,his legs his jab he's so big it's amazing. Then that uppercut used Tommy's punch against him. It looked like he was very confident and wasn't going to let a white guy beat him. Also I had the great privlage of Meeting Emanuel Stewart he is a much better corner man basically one of the very best ever, ever. Tommy needed to catch him with a left but never was allowed to get off.

Lennox ✌🏾💯

In my point of view Tommy had to get a Mexican fighter adviser he was a great prospect for a great champion!! But he never looked for the wisdom of the boxing

10:53 - that's why boxing coaches ALWAYS tell their fighters to either exit low, at an angle, while keeping your hands up; or to exit with a punch of your own. Jab while exiting.

He was hiv positive since the late 80's man, so he basically fought all of his career sick, but his major problem here was Lennox Lewis.

Yeah Tommy got totally outclassed here . Lennox is one of the best ever.

Think of the Lewis-Klitschko fight: if you could have replaced the 2003 Lewis with 1995 Lewis, it seems obvious that he would have gotten the win. His hand speed and footwork here are so much better, really no comparison.

Just too good Lenox, as much as I admire Tommy.

Lennox ushered in the era of big heavyweights, Tommy was big too but Lewis was at least 6' 5" Emanuel knows that styles make fights and he had Lennox fighting the perfect fight for Tommy. Tommy too worried about his left eye and didn't have enough dog in him to let it all hang out.

This version of Lewis could beat both wlad and vitally on the same night

Best Ref ever. Judge Mills Lane made it very clear who was officiating the fight, and more importantly the boxers listened to him

The fact that Tommy could fight professionally with HIV is incredible. His age accelerated and he had 12 surgeries by the age of 26. The HIV causes injuries and killed his chance of ever being a long lasting g heavy champion. So sad
