The Dreamcast version was graphically superior to the arcade. It's funny that one console generation after that, they backed off the graphics to make it truer to the arcade. The bottom line is the XBox360 isn't working very hard here.

if anything its even better than the arcade if you dont count the control input (considering you wouldnt buy a 300$+ wheel and gearbox to play one game); the draw distance is massively upgraded for instance

While it's based on Sega Racing Classic with the Daytona license re-instated, it doesn't change that Sega finally delivered an arcade-perfect port of Daytona USA after all these years. Kudos Sega AM2 and AM Convert Team!

Matheusfpolis1 it might come eventually, sega published a port of the first bayonetta without really announcing it and we got an enhanced port of it without asking for it. To be fair though, i guess they are a better company at this moment for re-releasing their older titles to modern consoles when backwards compatibility continues to be difficult for the ps3 to ps4.

Before Inital D, there was Daytona USA. Loved going to my local arcade to play this and I'm happy to see it get a proper version after so many years!!

The Xbox 360 version is actually better than the arcade version, because it runs at such a higher resolution. This game is excellent. The best racing game ever seen in the arcades.

That's because PS3/XBOX360 Ver. based on Sega Racing Classic, which is Daytona USA with better graphics, but lacks Daytona International Raceway licences.

The over the top hyping menu confirmation sound though. Been getting goosebumps over this since the first time I sat in an arcade booth in the 90’s

Probably the best remaster of a 3D arcade racing game from the 90's. For one time, thank you, SEGA.

It's impressive how great this game looks output at modern resolution.

I'm still baffled that it took Sega almost 20 years to release an arcade perfect port of this classic. Daytona USA holds the title for most mishandled console port in history. But hey, on the bright side, at least they ported it unlike Daytona USA 2.

Getting an arcade perfect port on any of the fifth gen consoles wouldn't have been possible. Daytona 2001 on Dreamcast though is a reallllly nice remake if you have a wheel. But yeah, in general, there was always at least one major flaw with every iteration of Daytona until the 2009/2011 HD remake.

@@eduardoavila646 There certainly is. I actually enjoy it even more than Daytona 1 (though it's obvious the first was way more influential). Sadly, we never got it at home. IIRC, Daytona 2001 was going to be a home port for a time but they dropped doing that for whatever reason and went with a Daytona USA Super Deluxe instead

Oh no! I was going to buy the real arcade console for $800 and changed my mind because of this, only to find out it's not available! Oh well, back to console shopping.

I wish this game was on modern platforms I know it is on Xbox backwards compatibility but having it Steam,PS4,and Switch would be amazing, it is fun to play.

bought an xbox 360 steering wheel to play this on my sons 360, but rarely got to play since he was always using it. so then I bought a used ps3 just to play this. I wish it had local lan play.

Yeah, I remember seeing your setup with the sawhorse and office chair! If I had the space like you, I'd love to do something similar, but unfortunately, I have to get by with just a gamepad. Thankfully, the handling is well optimized for pads, so it's pretty easy steer with a thumbstick. Wish the same were true with OutRun 2006. As for local LAN play, you can do this with the m2emulator with a little extra work. Of course, it would be so much easier if they just ported the 360/PS3 game to PC...

Saturn Memories I actually have done it with 2 pc's and the m2 emu. I remember I had to write a little txt file and rename it to get the emu to look for another "machine". It took quite awhile to set up with 2 crt tvs and 2 pcs with old video cards with component output. way to much stuff to keep settup all the time. much easier if I could use consoles

Thanks for the heads up.

Rotating the camera around anything with cool music in the background makes it look good. You could make a glass of water look "epic" with the right camera work.

This game introduced me to PIT maneuver. There were moments where all I'm doing is just doing maneuvers left and right. Such a great memory. 😆

@@josecarrilloii4036 Correct, if I remember correctly, if you do a PIT maneuver to another car on the curved angel of the track and managed to make that other car went to the wall, it would play the car crash animation only for that car. Usually, if you just straight up crash a car's back bumper or go the opposite side of the track, then the crash animation would likely play more on your cars rather than on theirs.

@@josecarrilloii4036 Correct, perhaps I should have clarify that what I meant is around the time when I've played this game, is also around the time of where I was into watching police pursuit videos (can't remember if it was a show on TV or KZread) and I found out that this maneuver is an actual thing IRL.

Dude, i just started playing this with the Model 2 emulator and a FFB wheel & shifter, and I cant even get past fifth on the second circuit... and here you are getting to first on lap 1 and doing 3 laps in the same tenth of a second, LOL. Great driving.

Unless you've got an H-shifter, it's not going to do you much good. Nonsequential shifting is what this game is all about.

I agree! I still remember playing this game's sadly arcade-only sequel, "Daytona USA 2" at Chuck E. Cheese's many years ago (I wish they released it for the PC, Sega Saturn, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 1, etc.). It was one of my favorite arcade classics, along with "18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker" and the Nintendo 64 versions of "Elmo's Number Journey" and "Tigger's Honey Hunt" at a McDonald's PlayPlace. I have the PC version of this game, which is basically a port of the Sega Saturn version of it. This arcade game series reminds me of NASCAR and ARCA.

@@SaturnMemories The arcade machine I played on as a kid would give u boost when you held down the start button. My friends and I noticed a glitch in the game. If u crash at the last corner and hold the boost button while ur car resets u boost at like triple speed and lasts all the way to the tunnel. Good memories

I wish Sega was back with a Dreamcast 2, or at least released HD versions of more of there games. Please Sega, I want Daytona 2!!

Kind of a shame this didn't lead to an HD port of Super GT/SCUD Race, though.

The most inspiring race game ever besides Sega rally 1995 PS4 VR race games are much more realistic to play but Daytona and Sega rally are forever the best of the best

Redream upscaled dreamcast version is a good way to play , controls only low point but it scaled all the way to 4k nicely

Fixable with a program like Xinput Plus. Main issue is dead zone, which can be corrected through the linearity slider. I did a longplay video in DEMUL with it.

Are you using a driving wheel? Well, smoking a cigarette using your knee to steer awesome job!

This doesn't look like a perfect port. It's more like an improvement over the Model 2 version. I do remember the original had very noticeable pop up (specially stuff like the trees) and in this port it's been greatly reduced. Sometimes I start up my PS3 just to play this.

Let's solute James a.k.a Professor Abrasive for Cracking the Sega Saturn. For also for him listening to the intro music of Daytona for +5000 times.

Even though I like the Dreamcast version of Daytona USA, this arcade port feels polished and beautiful visual at 1080p 60Hz. My question: how did you capture this game ? Looks very good and clean, sound is perfect and thus clearly no emulation.

Ah such a classic. Love to play this on Saturn a lot but its good that on Xbox One now =^~^=

You can still play this game on xbox series x But you have to login your account on a xbox 360 console and purchase it there as it is not sold on current gen series x or xbox one store. Once you purchased the game on the 360 console it will then show up on your xbox series x console in your owned games section. That's what I did to get it.

Why this port is not in PS4 or Xbox One!? Neither in Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series... NEITHER THE PC!...

They could've done this with the dreamcast, PS2, or XBox, but it took them waiting until the XBox360 to clone the arcade :-) The only thing different is lack of pop-up, so they basically just polished it off.

Team VVV had a chance to play the game at a recent trade show. The wheel had a massive dead zone and the cabinet lacks a proper 4-way gear shift, so gear drifting isn't even possible. The game looks like a mess unfortunately. :\
