Daytona USA - Beginner Survival Completed

Hi, the nickname is Oxyde and the game is Daytona USA played on XBox Live Arcade for XBox 360, recorded using Hauppauge HD PVR.
I am playing Survival Mode on the Three Seven Speedway (Beginner). In this mode, the goal is to complete the greatest number of laps/distance with specific time constraints and with grip loss enabled.
Daytona USA is an amazing racing game in which the goal is just to win the race. An extremely arcade gameplay that leaves no room for mistakes, and lets you enjoy driving the Hornet, the most popular Nascar vehicle worldwide. This beast can reach 335 km/h in seconds.

Notes: This is my second full run of the 80 laps of this track, effectively ranking me 6th on the XBox Live Leaderboards.
I recently re-played this mode and enhanced my score by just driving backwards once you reach the 80th lap.
The main things you should keep in mind when you try to beat this mode (which is, I think a relatively simple task on the two first tracks) are the following:
- Drive as efficiently as possible, you must always try to earn Time Extensions (T.E.), if not, try NOT to waste them.
- If you loose control of the car twice in a lap, you should pit stop, or try to go easy on the gas pedal. Driving in 3rd gear sometimes saves lives! While not going as fast, you'll hit less walls and avoid loosing precious seconds!
- Always drive on the edge of the road to earn said "On the edge" T.E.s, they grant you +2 Secs, and you can easily accumulate them.
- Consider the AIs as T.E.s and not ennemy cars, sometimes it's best to stick to a group of cars.
- Use the "Lap Bonus" at best! The most time you will gain will be during the start of the race, while the Lap Bonus T.E.s are available. The best you drive in the start, the more room for errors you will have by the end.
- "Pitless" is usually simple to trigger on Advanced & Beginner, just stick to the left edge of the road. If you are close enough (a matter of pixels actually!), you will gain both On the Edge & Pitless.
- The "Lucky Number" T.E. is annoying to grab, I'm horrible with the slots, try to use them when things look desperate!

Actually, the speed loss wasn't that significant, that's why I kept going. :) I"m glad you liked the video!

If it were me, my nerves would probably be too shaken to keep going after that! I'd probably be able to keep going, but I wouldn't be able to perform as well as I could've been able to. Nice job! :D

@@OlathianDrunkard The crash physics in Daytona USA aren't nerve-racking, you can easily recover from a crash like that.

@@Theheroofyokohama My big problem is that I'd probably just get too psyched out after a crash, despite the physics. When it comes to Daytona USA, I have a hard time keeping calm, ha ha. :^P

Hey man nice run. At the end of your race you still had 50 seconds to drive around backwards. Thats the difference between all you guys on 122k and me and YS23. The 2 scores above ours are a little odd to me since on my run I had about 80 seconds left so Im not sure how long they had.
Take a shot every time "time extension" is said.

Holy shit, one of the best Daytona USA players commenting my video! Personnal life goal achieved! :p So this is the neat trick you people use to reach high scores? You jsut go backwards upon the last lap? I didn't know the Odometer would still count points! Thanks for the tip, I might re-do this run later then! Also, feel free to check my other races. :)

Have you tried using the slot machine secret to get even more extra time on this track? I mean, I know you completed the whole race, but a little more buckle room wouldn't hurt, right? Edit: Okay, nvm, you have tried but you can't get it consistently.

Very impressive. I'm trying to get better at survival rn and you're kind of blowing my mind at taking that last turn 10 mph faster than i thought possible. Are you shifting to 2nd gear too? What does that accomplish that 3rd gear doesnt?

Hey man! The patern I use in the ending turn is 4-1-2-3-4 ; Down shitfting to 1 allows you to get a much sharper start on your turn, and you can slowly shift back up to try and control the best speed/grip combo you can. I barely remember but I believe I once tried to 4-3-4 and it would usually end with me hitting the wall, not a crash point that is, but definitely a significant slowdown all the time. I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)

@@OxydedGamingI typically use the sign on the corner as a marker and do 4-2-4 which allows me to accelerate during the corner

Damn, every time I see this, I keep thinking: This guy knows how to play Survival Mode if he completes the race before time runs out. Say, have you ever tried completing Survival on the Expert Course? I would figure it's a lot trickier, but honestly, it would be cool if I see a video where someone fully completes Expert Survival. I myself can barely complete a couple laps, and that's it. I'm not so good at Daytona USA. I did win the Expert Race with Auto gears, but that's the only big feat I could get.
Watch your speed on the turns!

I don't understand. You lap them like tens of times each, yet the announcer said you placed 36th. And in the leaderboard it says you're 8th. Am i missing something?

Why does the car bounce???? I'll never know....
Was there an update to make Time Extensions harder to get? Not only do I seem to be going faster than you are, but I'm doing all the same stuff without getting the same rewards. After 14 Laps, without pitting, I only have about 72 Seconds after I cross the line. In that time, I have never ONCE touched the brakes, have never ONCE hit the wall, I have gotten Super Drift on at least 50%-70% of the laps, I've been going at a faster pace than in this video (which means I should be getting more Speed Demon, Overtaker, and Hot Corner TEs than in this video), and I've even hit a few cones for good measure. I'm watching this video and it doesn't even feel like we're playing the same game mode, Time Extensions aren't as easy to gather as what I'm watching.
