I feel you, I’ve had two weeks on two weeks off since 12yrs old, however I had a coil fitted at 20 due to hormone imbalances and heavy bleeding and after 9 months of having it I stopped having heavy flow and now after 5 years of having a coil I don’t cramp or bleed anymore at all. It’s saved me so much pain and money. I would recommend it to anyone with awful periods xx

My girlfriend is like you. She’s anaemic because of her really heavy periods and can really affect her some days. At first it weirded me out a little bit that she wore those kind of diapers sometimes, but I realised how stupid my mindset was cause she can’t help it and it’s just something females just go through. Thank you for educating us on the matter so I can take care of her more efficiently.

I’m a teacher and I’ve had quite a few girls get their periods in school. It’s amazing that so many don’t know how to deal with it! They don’t know how to put in pads. Their mothers never showed them anything! I’ve explained pads and wings to 9 year olds! My mom explained periods to my sister and I at a very young age. I don’t even remember. So it wasn’t scary when I got it for the first time. I didn’t think I was dying!!!! I buy pads for the girls in my school. I’m not sure if the nurse has them, but she’s a nun and they used to have those really thick pads. Little girls can’t wear them. I have the thin ones with wings. All the upper grade girls know to come to me if they need one. I teach 2nd grade, but I’ll always buy pads for the older girls. I tell the upper grade teachers to send them to me. We go to my desk and I put it discreetly in their sleeves lol! It’s nothing to be ashamed of, but I don’t want to explain pads and periods to 7 year olds lol!!!

Just go to the store and take a good hard look at your pad section. They usually have little charts of their size and if they are overnight. Get the pad that says "overnight" and has the biggest one on the chart highlighted. It should also show double wings if thats what your looking for. PS. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure that shit has wings. Wings so big you can fly on. I never understood ladies who go wingless. I believe you can't fly. You know your pad is going to slip and slide all over your undies.

One of my friends in high school had a heavy period for 2 months straight and ended up in the hospital for ages with so many different problems. She was constantly weak, tried and really pale. It's such a shame that we only learn about 5-7 day periods and that's it in school. We need more knowledge of the problems girls could face at such a young age along with them having absolutely no knowledge of what is going on with their bodies and their potentially life-threatening situations. Plus the added embarrassment of talking about their periods with anyone.

Longer than average periods suck! It’s already a stigmatized subject which is further stigmatized by how long they are. I personally have a 10-14 day period and was told that if your period lasted more than 6 days you needed to go to the hospital. We need more education on women’s health in general, this is shit we have to go through ever month (ish) we need to know what we need to be concerned about and what is semi-normal.

Finally I found a person who has the same problem 😭 All my friends have their period for like 2,3 days and need to change their tampon every 8+ hours and I need to change tampons after 90 mins and I use the big ones which normally just fit women who already gave birth 😭 i use pads and tampons because if I use only a pad I need to change it after 30 mins because then it’s full ... I’m so low on iron and have to deal with circulation problems etc .. but luckily my period just stay for 5 days. I really needed that video ! Thank you so much for sharing those information ♥️

She seems to wear the nappy product more for her period and ONLY at night, not for incontinence (please do correct me if I misunderstood), but yes, great to be used for both or either! I am going to buy the ”nappies,” as Aussies/Brits call them (from USA here), will try the incontinence plastic all-in-one adult "Pull-Ups" (aka adult diapers) for the first 3 nights of my period next time- my worst time, personally. Tired of going thru tons of hydrogen peroxide (it literally dissolves fresh blood, but only works perfectly on really new blood, not old, dried blood, give it a try. Diapers are way better than cleaning up blood in the middle of trying to sleep!). I wear night time pads during the day for at least the first 3 days, wear 2 night time pads overlapped at night, and STILL can bleed thru!At any rate, no one should be embarrassed to use these products for whatever reason. @Alice and Rachel's Angel Forever... Bad on you for calling ANY person who wears adult nappies lazy, you cannot possibly know the full medical history of any person wearing one! I was in the medical field for almost 15 years, and many elderly have control, can use a toilet, but may have a sudden urge to go, but might not make it to the bathroom due to the severity of the urge, you think them lazy?!?! How about the lovely patients I cared for that had bladder control issues only sometimes or rarely due to neurological issues or damage from MS, bladder cancer or surgery? They can use the toilet fine, yet they wear them. Please think before you insult people that have only partial control of bowel or bladder due to real medical issues. You know ONE person, your mum. Please think next time at who you might hurt! People who use these might be sensitive to criticism just like this, that they may be judged by others. Please.... treat others how you wish to be treated! Not everyone can be helped by a pad only. Where are these adults who wear them for laziness? Edited for clarity and length

@Alice and Rachel’s Angel Forever your poor mum! But sleep is important, and how about we don't judge other people as lazy when we don't know why they do what they do. I hope the reason your mum doesn't wear them is not because she thinks it would be lazy to. I'm sure any doctor would tell her sleep is more important. Lots of people have to wear 'nappies', not just newborns and I'm sure a lot of them wish they didn't need to. I'm sure it's an expensive and undignified option if it's not needed.

  • @rickeyrescue

    @rickeyrescue

    4 жыл бұрын

@Alice and Rachel's Forever... I think I realize what is going on, and am sorry I did not see it before. Your mum's fear of nappies, could that can be pinned to a fear of losing independence, (a very real, very hard to deal with issue)? Your mum is part of the population who they make these for, so people CAN sleep without worry. I am saddened that she, and now you by association may think that the products are evil. I really hope your mum comes to terms with a medical condition not equalling loss of independence. Sadly, medically, if she is up that often at night, her stress incontinence (incontince caused by some sort of physical activity/exertion) may have turned into regular incontinence (barring any specific comorbidity causing exertion while asleep, of course), and there is ZERO shame in either diagnosis!!!! She is a wonderful woman, I am sure, but now she would probably feel like she lost face if she used them now after years of repeating that only lazy people use them. I hope she chooses sleep over pride. And yes, I can read, the people I gave as examples who do wear the nappies CAN and DO use toilets, in most cases, I thought I made that clear, but if not, am staying it here. It is there just in case, so they do not feel worried in public, or face possible embarassment. But yes, they did fit your comment, they CAN use a toilet. How many people do you *personally* know who wear these awful contraptions for laziness alone? After seeing thousands of patients on EMS calls (emergency ambulance) and in the ER/A&E, I have not ever met one "lazy" person who wears these. Is it possible that these people do not exist? Please back up your statements on lazy nappy wearing people with a study or even a news article. That would help. People with psych issues do not count, neither does anyone with incontinence of either type. Thanks!

I’ve been dealing with incredibly painful, intense periods for many years and this is one of the best, most informative videos I’ve come across. Also the fact that it doesn’t feel like watching a clinician but like a girlfriend giving you some advice gives your video such a comfortable feel. Also the fact that you’re speaking from experience rather than purely clinical knowledge leans something special as well. There are many things that you’ve just introduced to me that are fantastic ideas that I’m going to try. You were saying that you hope to help at least one person and you’ve definitely helped me. But scrolling through the comments, I am certainly not the only one by far that you’ve helped in just this one video. I only subscribed a few months ago so I’ve been binge watching a bit because I absolutely be your personality and I sincerely believe that you have reached and helped many people, those who suffer from EDS and the various other ills you deal with but also many, many of us who you’re educating beautifully. So I got rambly here haha, basically point being, thank you, you are lovely and I am truly grateful to you. Love you Darling!

Food, water, toilet paper,....everything costs money Even if pads were free we would have to indirectly pay for them through higher taxes Companies need to pay for their workers, materials, machines, warehouses, transportation, research for product improvements, marketing, logistics and so many more things They are willing to do this because custumers pay for their products and a better product gets them more custumers and/or custumers are willing to pay more money , the state would not finance many companies producing menstrual products, it would most likely select the cheapest ones, which would probably negativly influence the quality and definitly influence the variety of products we have In my opinion all menstrual products beeing free is one of the worst things that could happen to women, we are so different, we all prefer different brands of period products for various reasons, it's good that companies have competition and a financial motivation, it motivates them to meet the needs of as many women as possible

I was diagnosed with Menorrhagia as well. I’m so fed up with ruined clothes, towels, bedding, carpets, cushions, mattresses, car seats, etc. I’ve also had to have blood transfusions and iron infusions. It’s a lonely thing to have to suffer with. It’s so good to know I’m not the only one out there that deals with all the things you mentioned. I’m glad you made this video so younger girls have something to refer to in case they have questions. I wish I had something like this to watch when I was younger. You rock!

I really do feel for all of you still having to go through this. Amy great and informative video as always. Love from the US

I used to suffer from heavy flow and too frequent cycles. However, since starting birth control (eight years ago) it has helped greatly with both issues. I now no longer need to use thick maxi pads and change very few hours. I actually started use a menstrual cup a little over a year ago. It has changed how I feel about my period. I used to dread having my period, but now most of the time I feel “okay” about it. P.s. I just wanted to clarify that I am not trying to say “Well, have you tried this?! This worked for me.”. Trust me I know what that feels like. 🙄 Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience. 🤗

Katherine: You make a great point, what works for you is TRULY a wonderful thing. I have a vaginal birth defect (a septum), so some things do not work, like the time I got a contriceptive sponge STUCK! I was laughing so hard I cried! But seriously, cannot use a cup due to this, plus super heavy flow like you used to have means my cup would runneth over (okay, bad joke). Birth control- have a serious case of PMDD, and the pill made my mood swings insane- I tried them because they were supposed to help my moods, not for my flow, and holy hell, I felt like I was insane... But my flow was better (my poor BF, I was MEAN on those things!!). Too terrified to try an implant of any kind...lol. I am so pleased you found what works for you. Shame on anyone who would put you down for that. I am SO happy you found answers! Others might ask their doc questions based on your comment. Good job!

Thank you so much for making this video. I've had blood transfusions before because of heavy flow. I felt scared and so alone. A good doctor suggested an IUD, and Yay! No more passing out from anemia. It's time periods got discussed in an open manner, not whispered about in shame. Roughly half the planet deals with periods.

I started my period at 10. I was severely bullied for it and other things. The trauma of that made my period go away until I was 13. I had relatively heavy and very painful periods. I was miserable. When I was 17 I started birth control and my period went away again. I have tried to go without them for a few years at a time but always came back to it. Now that I know I have EDS I am so grateful for it removing my period. I am one of the few who have never had any side effects from them. For me they are a lifesaver. My body cannot cope with having a period anymore. The pain is horrific and knocks out my ability to walk and gives me 24/7 migraines. I hope that the implant works for you Amy. It worked for a year for me and then stopped working. Lots of love from Sweden.

I myself have a bleeding “disease” is what they call it. My blood doesn’t clot so I bleed up to a month or two on my period. I’m missing a protein in my blood that doesn’t clot there for bleed so much! I’m so happy you are putting this out there I was always ashamed of it. I use to wear these thick thick pads because a normal pad would last maybe 10 minutes. My mom would get mad because I would go through my pads in like two days till they discovered what I had at the doctor. I got a birth control implant after my son and now I barely bleed probably one of the best decisions in my life. Thank you for putting this out there!

I’m happy that the implant worked for you, have you every tried the pill? Although not the same for everyone, with the pill I can skip my period completely! I’ve had to do that due to my period making me delirious, extremely fatigued with severe pain, the pill has made me bleed less in general but the control to keep them extremely short (like 3 days) or skip them completely has been a LIFE saver.

Thank you so much for making this!!! I was told so often when I was young that I just need to learn to deal with it because everyone who gets period goes through this and that is just wrong! I'm lucky enough to easily be able to treat my condition with birth control but I went without proper care for years because people thought I should just learn to deal.

When I started my period at 14, they were so heavy! I had them for almost 2 weeks and I bled through everything. I thought something was wrong with me. I started wearing tampons when I was 15 and they changed my life! I stopped bleeding through everything. I know not every girl likes them, but I definitely use them. Have you ever considered the Diva cup or another period cup? You can leave them in for 12 hours. They don’t absorb anything, so there’s no fear of toxic shock syndrome. And you can enjoy some sexy time since the cups sits on your cervix like a diaphram. 😉 Thank you for sharing this. I think it’s important that girls can be open about their periods and not be ashamed. I was so ashamed of mine. I don’t “celebrate” my period like some women do, but I don’t hide it anymore. And thank you for mentioning the blood going down the bum crack! LMFAO! No one talks about that! It’s so gross when you feel it happening! 😂

For cramps, I've been using a TENS unit for maybe 3 years now. It really helps. For those not familiar, it's a sticky pad, kind of like your heat pads in this video, that you stick on your skin and it gives a very mild electric current - the intensity is adjustable so it can range from "can't even tell if it's on or not" to "my muscles are involuntarily contracting" (which is nice for muscle knots). The theory behind how it works is that your nerves can only send one kind or a certain amount of signal to the brain at a time, so adding this tingling means the pain signals don't ever reach your brain - so you don't feel them.

when I first got my period at 13 they were so heavy, that I had to use the Tena nappies as-well. and honestly they were the best thing that would stop leakage. I used to alway get really heavy period all through high school. I can't count how many days I had to go home cause I bled through my underwear and onto my school dress. it was the worst. I had to eventually go on the pill in order to stop how heavy it was alongside I was getting extremely bad cramps, vomiting, nausea etc which would literally pull me out of school and work. I love that you're putting this video out cause heavy periods really are common and need to be talked about more often.
