He was offered a seat at Ford this season, but he rather wanted to stay with Skoda for one more season. Driving for Ford means he has to cover a lot of the financial him self, and Skoda could offer him the same as they did, when Andreas Mikkelsen won WRC2 last season, difficult choice but a smart one IMO. I think he has in the back of his mind very clearly how, he failed with Hyundai, and wants to gain more experience before redeeming himself in WRC1.

Solberg is by far the driver with the biggest potential out of the WRC2 drivers at the moment, and even some of the WRC drivers. Im not saying the best, but with most potential, the pure pace he has in him is outshining everyone else at the moment. Give this guy a WRC seat next season, and lets hope he can finnish more rallies.

Why are we letting these “old” part time drivers back in the big league when there are so many talented young drivers in WRC2 that deserve wildcard entries! Much more interesting to watch how they show their skills than bored old veterans with nothing to do.

Couldnt agree more, i cant understand why drivers like Sordo and Mikkelsen gets time in the seat, atleast Ogier still puts up a fight for wins, but i would rather not see him either.

because old part time drivers are consistent and their level is known. a safer bet for a team in short term. rookies take typically at least a full season or two to get up to speed. they need to start thinking a bit longer term though imo. 3 out of the current fulltimers are in their late 30s and turning part time or retiring any year now. need new full-time blood soon.

@@BerserkerRC If it's not Sordo or Mikkelsen, then it has to be Suninen, Solberg, Lappi, or Greensmith. That's to say, already-seen faces at the top. There's no other WRC2 driver that's capable of jumping to WRC level right now. Greensmith, Solberg, Fourmaux, and Loubet jumped to WRC only to get back to WRC2 after their poor performances at the top. Fourmaux got back recharged, and I hope Solberg and Loubet do the same because they are very promising and spectacular, specially Solberg. Pajari is yet another one to watch, very promising too, but I don't think he's WRC level as of today. That said, if Sordo and Mikkelsen don't deliver, it's about time to bring back Solberg and Suninen to begin with. Munster is definitely not WRC level, but it's quite interesting to see his evolution against the big guys. One or two of such drivers doesn't hurt.

  • @BerserkerRC

@zwjna i agree, the big issue with WRC today are the lack of seats really, how are new young drivers going to get comfortable in a WRC car when they have this mutch pressure of the big teams in the back of their mind. Older drivers is safe and consistent yes, but it really kills the breeding of new talented drivers. I hope we some day will se more seats available, there are many names that deserves a proper chance in WRC, and not a "crash 3 times and youre out" chance.
