Day 13: Don't Be Too Obsessive About Grammar

Grammar is important, but focusing too obsessively on it can inhibit your progress. Cut yourself some slack when it comes to grammar and focus on what YOU find interesting!

That's what I always say. Is better to learn grammar by nfearing it, acquiring it naturally, like babies.

For example, I am studying Korean. And Korean is one of those languages that the grammar can be difficult at times. Take this sentence: 저는 한국어를 지금 공부하고 있습니다. This means "I am studying Korean right now" Word for word, it means "I, Korean, Now, Study, Am Doing" So if your learning a language where the grammar can be difficult, you should focus on grammar. Many people recommend learning grammar first when starting to learn Korean.

That’s not grammar, that’s word order.

I took German course up to C1 level for a year and I’m always scared to speak and to sound grammatically incorrect because German grammar is fundamental and for me I couldn’t speak properly if I don’t know the correct article, the right use of verbs and etc.. I don’t know. I don’t have this problem when I speak Italian though

I am learning spanish now and I feel burned out because of the obessiveness of learning the grammar. Meanwhile my friend who don't really put emphasis on the grammar just speaks spanish, despite being grammatically incorrect at times people understand him. I on the other hand often struggle because I keep thinking to myself what is the correct grammar while talking.

Those parts of German are the worst Luckily they don't exist in all languages or else I would've given up already
