@@caerdwyn7467 You realise, that you're basically saying Gilmore doesn't play with any feeling right? The original comment states his lizardfolk has no emotion, you liken this to David Gilmore and your argument for this is that he is technically perfect (if you want technical perfection watch bands like Archspire or Obscura), but cannot write good lyrics. Thus, you conclude, Gilmore has no emotion. Because his lyrics are shit. Maybe you don't know this, but the ability to play guitar does not have anything to do with the ability to write lyrics. Lyrics being bad doesn't equal guitar playing being bad.

ThorsShadow No, I meant exactly what I said. He is not a good lyricist. Technical skills do not preclude emotion and I never claimed otherwise. Emotion does not magically grant lyrical skills. Neither does guitar technical proficiency. Clear enough?

I think you under sell how silly fast a tabaxi can be, even while climbing. If a tabaxi monk is standing at the bottom of a 180ft tall tree, they can be at the top of that tree in 1 round (6 seconds) without necessarily making a check. Monk adds +10 to 20 foot climb speed (per sage advice), Feline agility turns a 30ft climb speed into 60 ft. They can move, dash, and step of the wind straight to the top at like level 2. Of course, your party would need to call the fire department afterwards to get you down, but that's their problem.

If you ever get to play a lizardman, here's an RP gem you can use: All reptiles are lactose intolerant. They do not produce the enzyme lactase needed to dissolve lactose, so any dairy product they eat it's going to get out of their digestive tract in a hurry (one end or the other), otherwise the undigested sugars will just sit there in their stomachs, causing all sorts of complications (bloating, rotting, unbalance of the digestive flora, etc.) So yeah, something to keep in mind when packing rations or accepting that delightful cheese bite at the feast.

I played a Triton Cleric who spoke in as much Shakespearean English as I could muster, because I really liked that quirk in the book, also whenever someone would call him a Fish, or a Fish Man he would say "I am a Triton, and you would do well to remember as such!" because technically Tritons as described in Volos aren't actually fish people, they're actually from the elemental plane of water and aren't actually fish, they have fish-like traits, but they themselves are not actual fish, which is why he did that so much.

Yeah, I have been crafting half-Troll races (3 so far). A Half-Troll/ Half-Elf, a Half-Troll/Half-Triton, and a Half-Troll/Half-Hobgoblin. The Half-Elf and Half-Hobgoblin races were fairly straight forward (Half-elf used as cannon fodder by an elf kingdom, Half-Hobgoblin used as elite front line soldiers and extremely evil in nature) but the Half-Triton has been the most fun. The Tritons' nature makes the thought of mistreating some race they made to aid in their constant war against monsters unthinkable, and in all, the Tritons just have the best martial culture to draw on. Heck, there is the quote most commonly used for them made by a ship captain in universe "Ah, The Tritons. Imagine, if the Elves spent a few centuries far beneath the sea, where their arrogance and pretension could grow undisturbed. At least the tritons spent that time fighting sahuagin and worse, so you know you can count on them in a fight." Seriously, if I can't get my DM to let me use one of my Half-Troll races, I am playing a Triton.

My favorite part of being a Goliath is that if I end up fighting a monster who is unarmed without a natural weapon built into their body or magic, I am honorbound to just toss my axe aside and beat the shit out of them unarmed. The constant need for a level playing field is great because you will be able to handicap yourself, bit by bit. Fighting a warrior one on one? No fancy magics. FIghting a monster with only one arm? Cross one behind your back and take out your one handed axe.

He mostly communicated with others with a mix of charades and noises (e.g. "there are guards nearby" = the sound of clinking armor + pointing). If a word was too complicated but necessary, the DM let me say it as long as I did it with some funny accent. Communication was a bit of a puzzle at some points, but honestly a blast. I definitely want to play him again so I can fully utilize his illusion spells and make noises with them for some real trickery. Anyway great video! Longbow with sneak attack and hunters mark. I would want to take the Healer (fungal swamp medicines) or Alert feat. Sharpshooter would also be nice. Hunter with cool perks and so on. My dream character that I haven’t been able to play because I’ve been DMing for every D&D nerd I know🤣

I’ve been waiting ages to put my loredrake kobold wizard to good use too! His names Kip. Coincidentally, he lives on an island of teal grass in a bioluminescent lake deep underground. He was forced out of his home by X event, with extra slaughter. His personality can only be explained as “Violent disembowlement is a suitable punishment for stealing my cheese. Ooo is that gold?” It’s cool to see how many other people want to play unique characters.

Played a lizardman once that occasionally put on a "ring of overwhelming emotions", which was originally meant to be a gag item from the GM as it was meant to be a reward from a quest. The receiving person was overwhelmed with gratitude and cried in thanks and the like.... When I put it on, I just felt normal emotions. It was weird, so I took it off, but at several points in the future, put it back on to roleplay mourn with my comrades.

My first character I ever played was a triton swashbuckler named, Joran Mernimier. He was so adorkable as one minute he'd valiantly rush to someone's aid no matter the foe, the next, he'd be screaming for help because he'd someone always managed to get himself into the worst possible outcome. Even though he was a pirate, he had a huge soft spot for smaller races and Orc folks and often would often anonymously pay off tabs for folks in taverns. He was a successful pirate on the high seas and captain-d his own ship, though often would go through bouts of depression and go upon shore to seek adventures of a different sort. (Every so often the DM worked it out for bizarre and random reunions with his crew and weaved it into the main story line.) He first met his onshore adventuring group after being slap about face after attempting to ask out a barmaid.... his super high charisma stats made him an instant recruit and honestly, he probably was one of the funniest characters I ever had the joy to play. Highly recommend them if you're seeking to play and quirky yet incredibly charismatic character.

Funny thing, I’m playing a Goliath Open Hand Monk named Variak in an Eberron game. Usually Friday’s, but sometimes we go Twice a week with Monday AND Friday because we have to cancel one night. Variak is just a big hearted boy who left the mountains to live jn a small country side town, where he learned to cook and brew ale. He only left to adventure after he got tired of constant praise he was recieving after wrestling a rampaging owlbear to the ground. End goal for thus boy? Earn enough coin to open his own tavern and inn, where he can just have people enjoy good food, good drink, MAYBE a good bar fight, all with bright smiles. Last session (on the 26th kf June), he got trapped with a bunch of party ghosts and was just a screaming big boi with a Texan Accent, trying desperately to get out of that room and away from the whispering ghosts that coaxed him with a feast. More stuff happened, including a role play moment with an NPC that legit scares Variak and Me, and my big boi earned inspiration that session at the nomination of the other players.

we need a better video for the kenku, too many DM's intentionally screw over the mimicry ability. then you have to have an argument with them about how its practically the same thing but weaker than variant human warlock with the actor feat since as a kenku warlock you dont get auto advantage on disguise, you have less proficiency skills, and no racial bonus to charisma so you are already behind. so salty he ok'd a human variant warlock that worshiped the raven queen but not a kenku that did the same thing

A lizardfolk character that is also a wizard could be awesome in a lot of ways.. Rather than the typical "I want to know the secrets of the world because knowledge!!!!" how neat would it be if their search for knowledge is a way to experience something they litterally can't experience..love, anger, happiness, sadness and fear..aka emotions.. Their only mission in life is learning how to feel something in order to understand something that is so alien to them. I feel like that would be one cool and facinating backstory that could explain why they left their tribe as well seeing that they probably won't be able to learn it from their brothers or sisters since they have the same "flaw" in their life. It would litterally be you playing as a phychopath that don't want to be a phychopath anymore just because he is facinated with it not nessesarily because he finds it wrong but because it is a cool concept for him. I could see it being cool also suddenly being able to actually learn how to feel (Guessing through a wish spell I would imagine is the only thing that could do it) would be another fun roleplay aspect. How the fuck would someone who have never felt sad before in their life react to suddenly feeling lose and sadness over losing one of their allices in battle because they seriously respected them..

My favorite race in Volos guide to monsters is in fact the Tabaxi, somewhat for their abilities, but mostly for there interesting and unique traits. This is a race that values curiosity, like strange mystery or unique tales, more than gold. This gives so many different takes on established ideas. Like a Charlotte Tabaxi haggling with a customer to trade gold for a book, but this book is the customers and the Tabaxi are trying to get it. Or a thief Tabaxi stealing strange looking things over riches due to their values. They will abandon artifacts worth millions of gold pieces once they felt they knew all that it held, while keeping junk that still fascinates them. Its a unique take that leads to a lot of subversion's from the tradition party way.

Malcom Hansford I’m surprised that this message is in this video, since I purposefully only chose pictures that were: 1. Official art from tabletop games like WotC/Pathfinder 2. Pictures from media (movies, games) 3. Memes and stock images I actively stayed away from any fan art or original artworks that didn’t appear in any official books. Even if you go back and check some of my guides (warlock guide, for instance) I have actually gone through and added a google doc with all the credits I could find. When I started KZread, I was just making these videos for the few people I ran D&D for. I wasn’t expecting any popularity to come out of it, so I never worried about things like this. Now that my videos are getting way more views than I had ever hoped for, I’m taking a couple hours each day to fix each video.

The players I DM for wanted to get creative when we started a semi-serious roleplay heavy game. Their party is made up of: • 2 High Elves • 1 Wood Elf • 1 Water Genasi • 1 Pixie • 1 Loxodon • 1 Mousefolk • 1 Warforged We literally don’t even have a human. As a DM, I have 100% made sure they know and feel like they stand out in human, Elf and dwarf settlements especially. If anything, they find it exciting because they feel special, even when their characters are discriminated against. They end up only solidifying their companionship with each other when this happens, even in societies where their specific character is the majority population. It’s a band of misfits no matter where they go and it’s made for some really amazing natural character develop moments

Recently I was playing a runty Goliath artificer based on Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, who was a fun character for a few sessions. Unfortunately a run in with a magical deck of cards that left my character in a coma which lasted for the rest of the session, which I spent on the edge of my seat as the party raced against the clock trying to save me. Inevitably, the coma ended after slowly shape-shifting me into a random new race- Tabaxi. Dear God this game is amazing 👏

A bit counter point to the tabaxi spending a turn not moving for double speed, I think it would lead to a similar problem as true strike, you know, I can spend 2 turns to roll 2 dice, but I would’ve done that anyway and it had the potential to twice the damage output if I didn’t cast the spell It’s the same thing but with movement speed, I could spend 2 turns moving 60 feet, or... spend 2 turns to move 60 feet... so while I understand the concept of a cat pouncing, mechanically not moving for a whole turn to get double movement the next turn seems like it wouldn’t do much to help, maybe if you were planning to dash that turn it would help but that still costs an action meaning you won’t be able to attack whatever you were trying to catch up with in the first place (depending on class of course)
