man you missed mentioning the best part of being an assassin. if you hit that first attack before anyone else has had their turn, its an automatic critical hit, meaning you also double your sneak attack damage and whatever other damaging goodies you have! its perfectly designed to stalk prey and take them out in a single attack before anybody even knows you are there!

No. You only have an auto-crit if you surprise the enemy. If initiative is rolled and the enemy is aware of you or your party, then they are not surprised anymore and you won't get the crit... Sorry bro, but Assassin is still garbage
@companyoflosers

@@evillaughinthebackground5732 only if you have a garbage DM who forces everyone to roll initiative the moment a player announces their intention to attack. That player should be the rogue and given how ungodly rogues are at remaining hidden, there are MANY opportunities to surprise enemies. Initiative shouldn't be rolled until AFTER their attack and given the right setup, you have a chance at chaining together surprise attacks if you take out isolated enemies one at a time. at the very least that player ought to be getting one guaranteed crit every combat and with sneak attack, that is a HUGE deal. the only thing garbage here is your imagination when comprehending the possibilities.
the pic at 1:10 reminds me of something that happened in one of my campaigns a few weeks ago. I was doing lookout in an abandoned fort when an assassin tried to do an ambush attempt in a very similar way. On the advantage roll, he rolled double 1's. It was so ridiculous that the DM decided to improvise that the ropes snapped an he fell to the ground and took fall damage (house rule is that a critical 1 isn't just an auto miss, but something bad happens as well). I then decided to improvise a flying elbow drop out the window onto him with rage active and my ranger friend's bear companion did as well. About two rounds into the fight when the assassin's party caught up and were surrounding us, I made a move to get back inside the fort - dodging the opportunity hit - the assassin tried to roll it and got another 1. The DM had to improvise that he missed and nipped one of his companions. We joke how this guy was just the worst assassin ever.

If you want to make a kickass shinobi put 6 points into Warlock (Path of Archfey), 3 points into rogue (Assassin) and 11 points into monk (Way of the Shadow). You can teleport from shadows, you can see through magical darkness due to your eldritch powers AND you can cast Darkness easily multiple times with both your warlock and monk powers. Oh ya, did I mention you can also create shadow clones if you just reskin major image? You also can crit anyone in your darkness spell by virtue of the fact that you can see in it and they can't. I have been playing a criminal campaign as an elven mastermind and one thing I can say for sure. Holy crap deception is so much fun with this subclass especially since you can even mimic other people's accents! So me and my crew managed to raid this caravan of 15 enemies plus the captain (there were only 3 people in this group) then as we were trying to move the two caravans with the goods we had traders coming up the road that we managed to here. I managed to make them think I was a guard for the caravan for over 20 minutes so we could take the two carts we needed away and I got him to return back to the town he was leaving. I have also managed to get into noble balls and we did a few heists where I would be the one gathering all the information on the floor and then we would execute the plan together. Mastermind rouges can be amazing at blending in just like an Assassin although it is a little harder at times. I am still having fun with this subclass. I will try the other xanathar ones soon though.
Then we have... *The Revived* You’re a spooky boy who doesn’t die really.

Great breakdown Davvy. Thanks my man!
The thief subclass is my favorite as you can preform the strongest attack in the pocket sand or if your like me you pick up broken glass crush it into a fine powder then pack it into a bomb with a non harmful about of explosives then chuck the bomb at the enemy causing the glass powder to full the air which the enemy breaths in causing lacerations to the inside of their throats as well as messing up their eyes among other things in effect causing them to die a horrible agonizing pain
one thing I love to do is get the flock of familiars spell and use the familiars to preform the help action in order to get advantage on my attacks
I can't seem to do any class without incorporating heavy magic. It's like butter. You can add it to *anything* to make it better.
My Bard is pretty sneaky too. Expertise in Stealth is so nice.
I love arcane trickster
Yayyy it's back!!!
I’m in a d&d campaign rn and i’m playing as a arcane trickster rouge elf so I was researching because this is my first time playing something else other than a rouge elf
Awesome, it’s back!
I literally looked up this video earlier today, Am i a Divination Wizard?
Wait... So what if someone is about to shoot an arrow at you can you use mage hand to literally steat the arrows from their quiver
You forgot one thing about the assassin if you manage to attack anyone who is surprised you instantly crit them and if they fail a save that damage is doubled (personally though I would prefer if this was instead implemented to attacking once you have hidden setting a risky precedent of hide and attack though this is just my opinion)
My friend is actually gonna run a campaign and i was thinking of an arcane trickster rogue that plays like the skull kid in majoras mask,Sounds good?
Ha, it's back know I can finish my class benge lol.
Thanks! I'll probably pick a scout, as my Tabaxi is shyer and doesn't really want to k/ll people. But I may still pick Arcane Trickster or Assassin, hard to choose.
Love that persona reference
I was so proud of my Bugbear Swashbuckler. I carved the shit out of things.
//Plays Mastermind Rogue. //Plays Variant Human. //Picks up Magic Initiate at level 1. //Picks Guidance and Bless spells. //Picks up Healer feat at level 4. //Is now more cleric than Cleric.
My rouge character Hailey Hellshot is basically a combination of Arya from Game Of Thrones and Indiana Jones
This was helpful since the only players handbooks I have available are 3.5, but I am curious if they still have prestige classes like shadowdancer now that assasin is a subclass. Oh and if shadowdancer is one of these subclasses then which class is it under?
@williamrosen3179

Sadly, 5e doesn’t have prestige classes.
I'm surprised by the lack of "Discombobulate"-jokes when you talked about the "Inquisitive" considering its "Insightful Fighting"-feature.
Rogue in two words: uncanny dodge
This is my favorite class
Especially the wizard!
Proficiency and expertise in nature and survival or that last one, making it infinitely better than ranger at the Ranger’s job
Advantage and advantage! Wow
I now have an idea for an Inquisitive human rogue. Ashton Retskcirt (Ret skirt). The cunning man who slips into shadows and usually bluffs his way out of fights. Otherwise he is proficient with Crossbows.
Swashbuckler who went three levels into fighter and took battlemaster.
Can you do a detailed video about arcane trickster and other sub classes
Huh. Didn't know that Grand Admiral Thrawn was an Arcane Trickster :P
You forgot the swashmonker, which allows you a *+12* to initiative and moves *240 feet* as an elf.
69th like! Going to play D&D for my first time soon and the dungeon master asked what I wanted to be so I chose rogue but don’t know what kind it’s still so hard to choose one they’re all so badass!
I’m about to start playing a tabaxi rogue and my plan is to be an arcane trickster but I might go for assassin
I have a proposal: Assassin's Creed assassins are not *assassin* rogues, but rather *scout* rogues. I have pretty solid reasoning for all abilities except Skirmisher. Survivalist: essentially expertise in nature and survival checks. Survival is primarily used for tracking, like the ability Eagle Vision in the games. Best paired with expertise in perception, investigation and insight, to really double down on the uses of Eagle Vision. Superior Mobility: increased movement speed. As far as I'm aware, the player character in the Assassin's Creed games is usually slightly faster than most NPCs. Ambush Master: advantage in both initiative and against the first enemy you attack. Rarely do the enemies in the games start combat immediately swinging, they usually falter a bit, giving you an opportunity to attack, and advantage against the first opponent you hit is essentially just pulling off combo attacks. Sudden Strike: you can use a bonus action to use your sneak attack against a second target. This is essentially just double assassinations, present in most games after the first.
Really like your videos and wish you'd make them longer so you could go more in depth with subjects. Plus I'd like to see if you need to take a breath while explaining stuff.
*Lich, casts fire ball* Me,an arcane trickster: Right back at ya buckaroo
Do i have to first choose to be proficient in it then choose it as an expertise?
EspEcAllY thE wiZarD!!!
Fast and dirty, just like I like my se . . . Umm, great video. Subbed.
The elderg knight and the Assassin max for a great crows class combo
Question: If I, say...wanted to play a Urban Bounty Hunter Lightfoot Halfling Inquisitive...what hoops would I have to jump through to be able to ALSO Dual-Wield hand-crossbows? That weapon choice is kind of important to my mental image of this character I have in mind, but I'm pretty positive rogues don't have a weapon proficiency in hand crossbows by default.
I've been playing a rogue/paladin and the synergy is ridiculous. Take mariner for your paladin and you get paid in AC to not wear armor, which being half rogue you weren't going to anyway--PLUS you get unhindered climb and swim speed. Paladin of treachery gets Cull the Herd which, combined with swashbuckler means you pretty much ALWAYS qualify to use sneak attack in melee. Plus you get proficiency in big boy weapons.

SheikMaster Yea the sad thing is they do a better job at thievery/lock picking then the thief (which is sad lol) since they can do it all at range (also as a bonus action) and they can get spells such as find Familiar (which is one of the best 1st level spells in the game imo), and with the find familiar since all it can’t do is attack it can use the help action to give u advantage on stealth (which the thief also gets at lv 9) but the AT not only can get that sooner but the familiar can also do more then what that ability does. The only ability that’s completely worth while on the thief is their lv 17 ability where they get 2 turns per round (which equals more sneak), but tbh I don’t really worry about that high lv since campaigns rarely go that far in lv.
