David Foster Wallace on Barrack Obama
How did David Foster Wallace feel about Barack Obama? Wallace wrote a famous essay detailing the campaign of John McCain. However, a couple months before his suicide Wallace made comments on Obama that we will be covering today.

Im a bit torn on this subject, i totally agree that getting deeply involved in identity politics the way that american media encourages it really only leads to diminished mental health and ultimately tribalism, however on the other hand there are certain major differences between candidates that depending on the person would majorly effect their said lifestyle, being able to ignore politics is ultimately a privilege afforded to those unaffected by it. I think the hard truth is that political involvement requires something of a grey area between ignorance and extremism, extremism is something we should always try to avoid however complete political ignorance is arguably just as dangerous and enabling to abuses of power.
Love the channel, great stuff.
Do you really think there’s no material difference between Trump, Biden, and Kennedy?

I remember that presidency as a teen. (vomits).
I do like when your videos really make me think. Thank you
The amount of folks who still praise Obama with zero knowledge of his drone strikes baffles me

THE BARACK!!!!!!!
Why Obama was revered is beyond me. It’s like his policies couldn’t be objectively critiqued for some unknown reason that I can’t put my finger on 🙄

Because he was a considerable improvement on the mentally challenged fellow before him, atleast he made us look good on paper. There hasn't really ever been a totally good American president but some are considerably better than others

@@batmann2723 so you like being lied to as long as the person lying is articulate and “sounds smart”? Alrighty then. Edit: the first 6 presidents were considerably more intelligent than your boy Obama. And James Garfield was a very good man.
The beard 🤷🏻♂️
I don’t agree with how you interpreted these quotes. You seem to think that DFW was campaigning for Obama. I think he was just saying that the Bush administration’s failings were going to get a lot of upset young people out to the polls. He was also saying that people wanted to vote for Obama because of his rhetoric. I haven’t looked at the entire transcript, but what he might be getting at is that people care more about buzz words than they do real hard policy. I don’t see where he was “duped”. The point you make about DFW becoming liberal because he moved to California is a pretty weak generalization. It’s sounds like a Fox News talking point. Lastly, I think saying “all politicians are the same” and to just ignore politics is quite dangerous. All politicians do bad things, but they still all have very different policies that greatly affect various communities.

One last thing, you also seem to correlate his declining mental health with him becoming more liberal. I’m not entirely sure if that’s exactly what you were getting at, but it really comes off as incredibly disrespectful, not just to DFW, but to people who struggle with mental health.
dude! come on, nah! one word: OBAMACARE..
