The trailer looks like something for a straight to video movie from the late 90s

In the hands of another director, it would’ve been a very good movie. In the hands of Fincher, it became a masterpiece

It was truly a great film I remember when I watched it on screen I didn’t expect it to be that good although I was a big Fincher fan.The fact that I was at the same exact age with Jesse Eisenberg made me extremely familiar with that generation of people in the film and emotional I would say.

Two of most brilliant creators of their generation.

Screenwriter is actually a much bigger creative engine to a story assuming they remain faithful to the script. Directors who simply buy others' scripts are a little overrated IMO

Well Sorkin did direct a 3-second insert shot at the last day of filming, where Fincher essentially made Sorkin wrap the film - his gesture to say it's a Sorkin film. Of course collaboration was at the core, which is evident by how Sorkin directorial works turned out to be. He's at his best when in the hands of a great director - someone who can request a few weeks of script reads to make changes, someone who can work within Sorkin style of dialogue and keep it visually interesting, someone who can bring uncertainty or complexity to the aspects Sorkin scripts can sometimes lack.

Dated movie. And it was even dated on release. While the whole elite status symbol thing might have been what Facebook was at Harvard in the beginning, it ultimately had absolutely nothing to with what most people came to know it as. It's really the Walmart of apps, not the Bloomingdales. But it was entertaining enough.

You don't understand what the movie is actually about, which is friendship, betrayal, and ambition, all characteristics that are intrinsic to humanity. Facebook the company was merely the vehicle to tell the story of two friends and their demise. This movie wasn't, and will never be "dated" because it's about people, not technology.

@@prasad530 Thanks for the condescending remark. Actually Professor, I understand fully the story ALSO has a storyline about friendship and betrayal. But to say it's not about Facebook--AT LEAST as much as it's about friendship is false. And I stand by my statement that it presents a dated image of Facebook. I think Sorkin imposed his own obsession about class issues onto it a bit too much. Movie if fine, but flawed. Not an all time classic by any means IMO.
