Love how effortlessly he switches back and forward between a baritone croon and a falsetto in this track

True baritone is actually not very common; Keith Whitley the country singer was another who could sing amazingly in that register

This jam came on at home depot today. It was pretty quiet in there and there I was, 60 years old, full-on dancing in the aisle shopping for grout and nails! LoL Bowie, man... Rest well.

God, I love this period of Bowie. IMO, '75 - '80 were his golden years. From "Fame" to "Ashes To Ashes"... just genius. A true artist who marched to the beat of his own drum.

most definitely... one of the things I think of when I hear his music, is not only how talented he was, but the costumes he wore that helped put him in a league of his own. he did his thing his way, & didn't get the fact that he was ahead of his time...Yes he did it his way & marched to his own drummer!!!!! That's for sure...

LYRICS Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere Angel Come get up, my baby Look at that sky, life's begun Nights are warm and the days are young Come get up, my baby There's my baby, lost that's all Once I'm begging you save her little soul Golden years, gold whop whop whop Come get up, my baby Last night they loved you Opening doors and pulling some strings Angel Come get up, my baby In walked luck and you looked in time Never look back, walk tall, act fine Come get up, my baby I'll stick with you, baby, for a thousand years Nothing's gonna touch you in these golden years Gold Golden years, gold whop whop whop Come get up, my baby Some of these days, and it won't be long Gonna drive back down where you once belonged In the back of a dream car twenty foot long Don't cry, my sweet, don't break my heart Doing all right, but you gotta get smart Wish upon, wish upon, day upon day, I believe, oh Lord I believe all the way Come get up, my baby Run for the shadows, run for the shadows Run for the shadows in these golden years There's my baby, lost that's all Once I'm begging you save her little soul Golden years, gold whop whop whop Come get up, my baby Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere Angel Come get up, my baby Run for the shadows, run for the shadows Run for the shadows in these golden years I'll stick with you, baby, for a thousand years Nothing's gonna touch you in these golden years Gold Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Golden years, gold whop whop whop Songwriters: David Bowie

+Jean Lafitte it's hard to believe a month and some has already come and gone... I guess the news struck so hard because we forgot he was mortal just like us. Reason being he was always there be it in his music, interviews, brief glimpses, his role in Labyrinth and other films. What never fails to bring me to pouring tears are some of his wife's last tweets I think they where to him when he still lived... "I will love you till I die, I will see you in the sky. To the man who fell to earth. Forever, Bowie"

If you carefully listen to the lyrics for Golden Years, you will appreciate just how well-written it is. The lyrics here just roll off the tongue, having a poetic quality and rhythm to them. The song deals with the perils of fame, the seduction of first-time artistic success, but underlying both is the narrator-singer's love for his star-in-the-making. In the space of just a few minutes, one song carries off all these themes. And this can be played anywhere, under a starlit sky, at a barbie, in a bar, in a disco! Or on a tour bus in the Californian desert!

I always wanted to meet Bowie. In 1977 his limo, with Iggy and Deb Harry in it. Stopped at a red light when I was at the curb. I ran over, banged on the window and they all leaned forward, smiled and waved. The light turned green and they were. I could have died from unbridled joy right then

Just found out he wrote this for Elvis Presley (which he turned down, but later wished Bowie would produce his last album) and now when I hear the song, it totally sounds like to could have been a Presley song.

We are lucky that he touched our lives through his music, lyrics, acting, quotes, ect. and that he did it with style and originality. He was Fearless.

Goddamn this song has staying power. I've loved this since it first came out in '76. Never loses it's magic. I especially love the way he used this song to stylistically bridge the gap between the previous year's 'plastic soul' of Young Americans to what he was doing with Station To Station and introduce (my personal favorite Bowie persona) the Thin White Duke. I'll always love his glam period, but for me, this was when things REALLY started getting interesting.

The fun thing about Denver in the 70's was that at the height of Disco, Denver had 5 Disco radio stations going on at the same time!! L.A. only had one -- KIIS FM. It was a blast!! I was really heavy Disco. But, loved Rock, too. David Bowie was at the top of my list.

I'm scared to listen to artists now days. About a year before he passed I got REALLY in tune with his music. Playing it everyday and everywhere I went. Then he passed. Same thing happened to me playing Remmy (Which was around the same time). Then The last few times I go to my home city and see friends I haven't seen in many years, they passed away a month or two after seeing them and hanging with them. I know I'm not bad luck, I'm just happy to be able to give people their flowers before they and I leave.

I just read how David Bowie wrote this song for Elvis Presley, at their RCA Records managers request. Since they were both under the same label. Only to have Elvis reject his song. I feel for David since he was a big fan of Elvis & had been excited to write something for him. I really like the flair with which David sings this song. It wreaks of David Bowie's swagger. 😉😎❤ Wonder how Elvis felt after he heard David's version of it.

my father in law was a few years older than bowie and when he died he said "didn't expect this" then a month later he was gone as well. Fucking shocking shit. Everyone needs to realize that life is short and we all need to get in touch with the universe, our place in it and try to do with our SHORT life what we can in a good and enjoyable way. Peace and much love to all.
