I think Dave Weckl is probably the Greatest Drummer of ALL (in Western Culture at least)! He’s taken all the greatest things from all the great Drummers that have come before him and has brought Drumming to a whole new level!! Thanks Dave!

Without breaking a sweat, Dave shows us how really good technique, combined with really good rhythmic and phrasing ideas, including dynamics, can allow for this kind of drumming. it's a superb demonstration of the hard work it takes to get to this kind of level of ability. Thanks Dave for the lesson and the music.

I couldn't stop listening to this. I think a lot of , if not most drum solos are not interesting if not boring. Weckl is very subtle, surprising, always interesting and surprising. Not to mention amazing technique. I think he's the best drummer in the world.

He is a humble person, I enjoy his transparency & honest advice to drummers. I met him several yrs. ago at a drum clinic. He never disappoints, I might exaggerate but I think Senri Kawaguchi might take the baton or torch the day Dave retires. Just my opinion considering there's more great drummers out there.

I bought a double VHS Dave Weckl instructional when I was only a year into drumming. I'm still trying to nail the first groove 30 years later. hehe.

DW is a BEAST, for sure! I started listening to him probably 20+ years ago and never cease to be amazed. Also check out Omar Hakim!! Watching his play is like watching a glass of water play. He is so absolutely fluid!! A true inspiration!!

I haven't heard a drummer that plays his notes so exacting and that feels so right for the music as Dave. The silkiest technician. Just butter smooth.

This is seriously one of my favorite drum solos ever. Weckl is aging like the finest of wines: incredible tone, incredible facility, incredible ideas and musicality.

There is something uniquely special about someone like Dave. His solos are tasteful and make sense. There’s a story. Listen to the dynamics. They’re flawless and truly speak louder than if he were to play fast and loud the entire time. He’s a master. Has the touch and truthfully makes the drums sing. You don’t get that much anymore. I hope anyone reading this in the era of social media and trying to get “likes” or shares on social media, to remember this drum solo. This drum solo is really what a drum solo should be. It takes shape and sets the tone for what he has taken a lifetime to develop. Legend, icon and a true musician. Dave we love you.

There are lots of great drummers but I enjoy listening to Weckl the most. His drumming just sounds the best - creative and tasty

I'm not a drummer, I'll never be a drummer and I bloody love my basses, but Dave Weckl is just brilliant. Simply gorgeous playing.

Without question one of the all-time greats. My personal favorite. Dude probably snores in 6/8.

Weck changed my direction of drumming way back in 1989. Thanks Weck.

One of the smoothest drummers ever. Got the privilege of going to one of his clinics and talking to him. He was nice enough to give me his sticks after he signed them! A possession I deeply treasure! 😊

I could listen to Weckl solo all day long. And seeing how I'm under quarantine right now that may be a possiblity

GENIUS... The sophistication of Dave's drumming is astonishing. The precision of his drumming... the beauty of his drumming amazes me every time I listen to him. No wonder he has millions of fans !

His precision is amazing; and you can hear melodic lines in his playing! Still head and shoulders of the newer drummers, this guy plays music not just flashy chops and each part of the solo is a pure statement in itself!

Well..after years,and years of lessons and practice, all I can really do is understand what he’s doing. However, I cannot execute such sheer badass-ness!! True master! The best.

Dave Weckl -- Contemporary Drummer + One: Book, CD, & Charts (Manhattan Music Publications) www.amazon.com/dp/0769247938/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_wkDPAbCBFXPMA It’s quite advanced. It takes a few years to get through. It’s recommended that you start with his play along Books 1and 2. These are hands down the best drumming play alongside made. They have almost flawless charts, and the top players on the recordings... MIKE STERN...CHICK COREA!!! Come on!! Be brave and don’t give up! You will start to understand the language. Mr. Dave wants you to learn. Eventually you should join the club and become a member of his online lessons! Cheers!

I have watched Dave for decades...I melt every time I see him play... a true genius of his instrument....what else can I say.

It's just mind blowing how Dave never stops challenging himself to take it to yet another level. Been enjoying his playing for decades now and as soon as you think he's reached his summit he gives us all this. F*#kin' beautiful Dave...Just Beautiful.

Well, it could be one hand down, one foot up while the other limbs play a cross rhythmic ostinato over several time signatures creating the impression of different pulses all at the same time. But I get what you mean :P

I've been listening to Dave since the first Electric Band LP and it always to this day amazes me how he flows thru very intricate and technical fills during an odd time piece with shots and pushes and never ever loses his place. I've never heard a stumble or a pause to catch himself. I'm sure Dave would disagree but I've never heard one. Simply the greatest drummer of the last 3 decades. imo

In my personal opinion Dave Weckl and Steve Smith are both maybe the best examples of drummers playing even better and more musical now than in their young days. I don´t feel the same with others drum legends.

Man, I could happily listen to this dude solo all day. The dynamics and musicality of his playing, let alone the mind-boggling technique are spell binding. I had the good fortune to sit about 6 feet from that left hand at Ronnie Scott’s and I can safely say that I have never witnessed such fluent command of a musical instrument. I actually wept. Legend

I know there are many incredible players out there… While I appreciate them all immensely, Dave is my favorite...

Absolutely. This video sounds better than 99% of all other KZread videos, even in 240p. Seems to me compression is not the problem. I suggest most videos that sound crappy did already so before they were uploaded.

This man will go down as the greatest musician drummer that’s ever graced the planet. His timing, flexibility, fluidity, and absolute to adapt to any situation is a God given talent and he took that talent and really perfected it.

With musical specialization so prevalent in our world, after Buddy Rich, it seems impossible to pick the "best" drummer in the world IMHO. If it was possible, is there anybody better than Weckl? Such deep command of technique, feel, speed, independence of limb, and textures in his soloing. It's like watching a finely-tuned athlete on the kit. Props to Gadd and Vinny as well.

I make it a point to watch a Dave Weckl solo each and everyday. Skill, feel, drum tuning and sound just so inspirational.

Love how Weckl, Colaiuta and Mayer all have such a smoothness that makes watching them even more pleasant than just listening. The basic is probably that they achieved such a level of mastery in technique that makes them play that way.. And when they do get more physical and agressieve...man, goosebumps.
