    There was a time Dave wouldn’t allow any questions about Kurt or Nirvana during early Foo Fighters interviews. But time heals all wounds, later said go ahead you can ask me any questions about Kurt. I don’t mind anymore.

    I felt like the older Uncle when Kurt died. All my friends were “Publishing Zines and raging against machines” when I walked up to the hangout porch on a idle sunny afternoon and delivered the news. Looking back it was fandom mourning, not like their best friend died which is how they took it.

    For sure, and honestly, it has a lot to do with Howard's ability to interview people. He is one of the very very best interviewers ever. He asks all the deepest questions and in a way that the guests just feel comfortable answering. They don't feel like they are being grilled and interrogated, but that this guy (Stern) is super interested in what I have to say.

    It wasn’t the drugs. It was surrounding yourself/ marrying a bipolar crazy person who had no control and letting that influence you to chase a high. If kurt just chilled with a buzz and had discipline it wouldn’t have gone bad. But instead his life spun out and he was being self destructive & probably loved escaping through nodding off

    Astute observation. Stern is very good at getting to the heart of the matter. Junkies live in their own world, totally separate from non-junkies. What Dave went through only he knows. He came out of it stronger, and built something new from the ground up.

    You can tell even today when Kurt died that Krist changed forever. It's like losing your other half and both Krist and Kurt were fighting at the airport for Kurt to get rehab. That death shocked Krist into being sober because when you saw him in the 94 MTV music awards he looked like a completely different person.

    Howard has a way of asking the right questions and getting good solid answers; his technique is flawless...... he makes his guests feel at ease, cracks some jokes..... and asks the hard hitting questions. For all his crass and stupid sexist s**t in the past.... he’s a genius at interviewing people.

Firing off questions like that and then answering for them or leading them off the path towards the interviewer's own assumptions is just plain sloppy technique. "How was your day Dennis? Was it raining or nothing but blue skies today? You're probably relieved it isn't raining, huh? Do you feel glum when it's overcast and raining outside? Because I could see how it could start to get to you, right? Is it getting to you already? How long has it made you feel so glum?

    Funnily enough one of the things that got me loving music again after Kurt's death was the foo fighters first album which Dave did pretty much on his own. Dave is still my favourite living rock star to this day

    If that's true I didn't necessarily get that from this clip. It'd be nice if Howard gave him some time to give an honest, fleshed-out answer. I thought the questions were great, and as a long-time fan definitely some I've always wondered, but damn let him finish a thought before you move on.

    you can see how hard it is on him just to talk about this. what a harsh life these guys had. we sit there and think "ye but his famous and cool and rich", but you that sits there, not sure you had the pain these guys held together. being in a band trying to make it, being friends with a deep connection, actually making it, then everything crashes, your friend dies, and then build yourself again. never to really recover. as we can see from the way he speaks about this. and the fact that he really never took the drum set again. just to painful emotionally. it could be even a really sad thing. congrats to Dave on not doing drugs and coming out of it.

    You're being a little over sympathetic. Dave got over it when the Foo's got big real quick and got behind the drums on his first record and then with Queens of the Stone Age. You sound like all these little girls that read too much into something that has been misconstrued for so long. Kurt and Dave were more like business partners than they were friends. Kurt didn't really trust Dave by 93 in my opinion. Kurt was going to fire Dave from what I heard.

    Dave wrote and did lead vocals on the song Marigold which was a b side to Heart-Shaped Box. *Edit, just randomly rewatched this. I forgot to mention that in interviews the band said that Dave also came up with the drum beat and riff for Scentless Apprentice.

    Nah guys, it's been over 25 years and so much (good) has happened/changed since then. He has moved on, he can talk about it. It's like being shot and surviving or something. Everybody else thinks it's a super big deal because they never been there, but you live it, heal, move forward with life. Not forget, just carry on and indeed get over it, especially as time and other life events have come and gone.

    Thats why he became the biggest radio jockey ever. Some people hate him for it because it can come across as insensitive or inappropriate but he makes you talk about the interesting stuff that no other interviewer can get u to. He'll hammer you about your dad who left you and the impact it had or an affair you had with another celebrity etc and will get you to say more about it than you have in the previous 20 years.

    Okay but Howard is such a good interviewer. I believe he asked the questions fast because that's how you get a natural response, you don't let the other person think of a fake or mild response but an honest, raw response. As an interviewer, he's smart and quick, I like him.

    Rick D Nirvana formed in ‘87 and disbanded with Kurt’s death in ‘94, so Krist was in the band for 7 years. Dave joined around 1991, so for him it was closer to 3 years, but he did take on another “job” fronting the Foo Fighters, so not entirely true, but I get what you were saying: Nirvana kicked ass and those guys can coast through the rest of their lives because of it.

    Making and playing music is WORK and it's harder than most JOBS especially during the 90s when social media havent existed yet. It takes a LOT of time and effort to be really good at your instrument and just like athletes, musicians need to practice regularly to maintain a certain level.
