Lol I've known Dave since he was about 16 years old. All us locals knew that he was going places! When he comes back in town we all get together for a drink! And he is truly the same dude inside & outside! We all love our Dave!

When he's into a song, he just totally becomes one with it and watching him becomes almost hypnotic. Insane. That doesn't mean he's the best, just that he's the best fit for the songs he's in.

Amen! do you know I found out about Them Crooked vultures well, I heard the name on a College radio station but I never actually heard their music and I didn't know that it was Josh Homme and Dave Grohl. and I found out about them watching a nandi Bushell video of her accepting the challenge to do the Them Crooked vultures song and I was blown away twice because this girl is so incredibly talented and dedicated and it was just a really amazing moment .it was utterly amazing and to find out that there was more music from Josh Homme and Dave Grohl? Oh yeah! so that was a double whammy and a great day for my musical experience. Iff you don't know about nandi Bushell I strongly suggest you Google that name and be blown away by her, by Dave , by the amazing Dedication that you're going to witness. And a final nod to Josh Homme- Man, you are among the highest echelon of musical creators. You are a Titan, and I thank you for your contribution to my life and music history. EXCELSIOR!

Nathaniel Julius your 100% correct. I saw Dave at a drum clinic with Steve Smith, Dave Weckl and Louie Bellson! He’s a class act! He actually said to the crowd “ why am I here with these great drummers” lol! Dave is very humble he knows he’s not the greatest but really, who cares! He’s great at what he does that’s all that matters!

Greg McFarland Comparing drummers and trying to decide who’s best is actually pretty ridiculous. I’m not trying to be a jerk. But everybody has different preferences. As far as technique goes you don’t get much better than guys like Dave Weckl and Simon Phillips. That’s measurable. As far as the ability to bring a song to life and make it shine - that contributes to greatness too. But again there’s no such thing as the world’s best drummer. It’s like the world’s best pizza. Who decides? I like mine with pineapple.

He's got some of the greatest musicians ever in there, who have played for the best, and you're just in your shit-hole house being a nobody, or are you a better drummer/guitarist/bassist/keyboardist/vocalist than they are? He may not be the greatest ever, but he might have been the best of the 90s. Also he hits harder than any drummer i've seen. Especially in Nirvana.

I'm a drummer for 45 years and I've come to the conclusion that it's very difficult to claim somebody as "The Best". We all contribute to the art and take from each other. Some are awesome and in the beginning we can suck. I think what differentiates our excellence is what a drummer "created" during a song to make it interesting or exceptional. Many times, less is more.

I've been drumming for 70 years. I am now 100.

It’s not about being the best. It’s about giving it all you’ve got and Dave does that every second of every performance. Watch starting at 7:30. I started to think “wait a minute, Dave, are you sure this is the moment to leave it all on the floor???” Then I remembered, oh yeah, he does that every mother lovin time. Can’t get enough grohl!!

Same babe. A master of drums, guitar & good enough vocalist. I saw nirvana live in 91 & couldn't take my eyes off him. The night ended very well!

Dave makes the drums sound like a guitar with the way he rides a song. Crazy.

Kurt was lucky to have him. He made Nirvana sound great esp in the early days.

I love Kurt as much as the next guy, but Dave really helped out. Kurt was going to go places no matter what because he was a great song writer. A musician to the core; heroin addiction, embarrassment over commercial success, the whole 9 yards. Still there's no denying the drumming in Nirvana was perfect.

Well if you wanna keep playing this game, more people say the opposite since Nirvana had several #1 singles and to this day sell thousands of copies of their 4 studio albums. It's a matter of taste, I thought you were playing. You cannot deny talent just because it's not your style of art. Except maybe that guy who gives himself paint enemas then couches over a canvas... I love the expressions on his face. I love Dave, I was a teenager in the early 90s and I've loved him since then.

Absolutely love kurts totally honesty at the beginning of this tribute to the BEST musical talent the world has ever seen. The man is just awesome!!

Insanely gifted drummer. He has a real understanding and passion for the drums inside and out, one of the myriad qualities that make him so unique.

He's a perfect drummer for rock band, the passion and the energy he had was just amazing

Only fools take the "Best Drummer in the world" seriously. Is there A best drummer? I dont think so. But he's tight as hell, loud as fuck and fast as hell. I've barely seen any rock 'n' roll drummer so much on point as he is. Who cares if he's THE best or not even in the top 100. He's awesome and better than you and me combined ever will be.

If you haven’t found the b-sides by now: You can’t possibly begin to imagine Hwy 1 Then crooked vultures needs a new album.

Dave has never stated he's the best drummer in the world! But he's undoubtedly one of the top 5 in my lifetime! Also a self taught musician ! Learnt drums on his pillows , hence known for his heavy impact style of drumming! He even used his drum knowledge on guitar, playing those 6 strings like drums! That's talent ! Also, would like to add, great compilation video! Works for me !

just the fact that JPJ is on stage playing bass with him means he's a top musician. JPJ is in my opinion one of the most talented musicians in the world. No doubt was just as good if not better than Page himself.

when you play drums and do a lot of metronome work consistently, you'll find the occasional 5th beat in a 4 - count from Bonham. Although it doesn't matter much. It means JPJ is a WAY better bassist than we thought...

Being a great drummer is such strange concept. Being a great drummer is not really about the awe inspiring thunder of the drum solo. The drummer is in charge of the beat. The tempo the groove. A great drummer knows when to hold it down when the other musicians are reaching for something different. A great drummer understands you don't need a fill every 2 bars. A great drummer brings you back the the "1" just when you think the song is about to fall apart. When you play with a great drummer sometimes you forget he's even there because he's so consistent and blends into the song perfectly. So yeah Dave Grohl is in fact a great drummer.

I was searching for this video for about 6 years and today Friday 29th 2020 at corona times I finally find it ❤

He exudes passion, precision and excellence. Just something about the way the way he plays lets you know it’s him. That’s the sign of an incredible drummer.

Keith Moon, Cozy Powell, Ginger Baker, Artimus Pyle and Nick Mason to name but a few, all fantastic drummers in their own right, i remember Dave Gilmour once saying "Anyone can play the drums for Pink Floyd, but none would sound the same as Nick Mason, every drummer or musician has their own unique style of playing."

Dave is a beast, so intense. Love him.

You have to say that the fact Josh Homme or whoever it was chose Dave Grohl to be in that band speaks volumes about the level of respect they have for his skill as a drummer because their music is some of the best that's ever been written and I don't think anyone but Queens of the Stone Age could have written that so incredible music . It's mind-blowing how good these guys are, and for them to choose Dave Grohl I think was such a nod of respect ; and when Prince played Best of You in the rain at the Super Bowl oh man I know the Dave had to be he had to be in tears and just so proud of that moment and I think that his career, his charisma, his demeanor, everything about him says "Yeah, why don't we get Dave Grohl!"

i will never get bored of spinning in daffodils its definitely my favorite track done live.

I got to see them crooked vultures perform in amsterdam on completely coincidence. my cousin and i were there visiting and we were walking down the street past this venue and the line was around the fuckin corner. both of us being music heads, we walked up to the ticket counter and were like who is playing? them crooked vultures? who are they? ..... JPJ AND DAVE GROHL WTF GIVE US TWO TICKETS! dave is an incredible drummer, and amazing musician, and an even better human. he's an incredibly kind, generous person, and all of the small little things on the interwebs don't lie. there is a reason why he is so liked and so highly regarded. incredibly talented, and beyond humble given how talented he is.

Don Beleef If you're a drummer then you would know Dave Grohl isn't the world's best drummer. There is a difference between saying I think he is the best, meaning you just happen to like what Dave does, than to say he IS the best, meaning he is the best in the world. The latter is not so much about liking someone's drumming style, showmanship, etc it is about judgement based on criteria, such as technique. For example, I prefer Gene Krupa over Buddy Rich because Krupa floats my boat with his rhythms and use of toms. However, I have no bother with admitting Rich is superior. You can be a fan, love a drummers work and at the same time not contradict yourself by saying that other drummers have superior technique and skill. Put another way, there is the subjective experience of liking something and the objective judgement using criteria. I love Marc Bolan's vocals over Freddy Mercury's, but Bolan certainly didn't have the vocal range of Freddy Mercury. So what if Mercury is better technically than Bolan as a singer, I still like Bolan! What's the big deal?

Wow! I am really glad this grandma came across this page. Buddy Rich, Gene Kurpa or Bonhamn, I would rate them all as equals, but none surpass. Musical talent isn't and never will be gone.

Bonham not such good....i don t know why always putting led zep musician.like god...technically they re not so hot...for example in.drum steward coppeland is higher..and i m not reamly fan of police..

I saw Dave Grohl play drums twice, Nirvana and when he played with Mike Watt(minutemen) after Kurt’s death and before he formed foo fighters, he was incredible!

I love this ❤️

When dave gives a drum solo and anybody looks to him (band members) and saw him playing. They think he's fucking awesome and we have it here =)

I have Dave’s drumming gloves from the Paul McCartney concert at Safeco Field in Seattle 🤙🏻

Still can not comprehend all this hype around him being the best drummer. I mean, really? He may play quite energetic, I understand that. But being the best drummer means having the skill cap way beyound average. Which includes variety of tehcniques, dynamics, complexity, sound, volume control, speed (which I personaly don't find very spectacular). Take a look at John Bonham, Buddy Rich, Chris Coleman, Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan and many other outstanding drummers. These ones proved, they have their individual playing style based on drumming, they brought up so much to the table. But I still can't get it on Dave Grohl. Is this the matter of his behaviour on stage? If so, I would rather call him excellent stage perfomer, than the best drummer in the world.

I totally agree. Most people don't venture into different style drummers like vinnie colaiuta or mike portnoy or even Coleman like you said these are just a few so many that I respect and idolize as a drummer skill is way beyond energy in my opinion

Let me be perfectly clear. In no way am I saying Dave grohl is the best drummer in the world. To say any one person is the best is idiotic at best. But to say Dave grohl didn't bring anything to the music table is completely ignorant. He brought grunge to the table, which ended 80's butt rock hair bands and brought to light a completely new artistic emotion to music. If that isn't bringing something to the table I don't know what is.

+Alex Timifikator Dave is a good rock drummer. He's nowhere near a great drummer. A great drummer can play anything. Dave cannot play anything. He has no serious chops like a Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, JoJo Mayer. I'm not even talking Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, etc. He's not even on the same planet as these guys so stop with the greatest drummer stuff..

Ive heard him with ZZ-Top Oryanthi, blond, but good hrp pßlaying, SHARP DRESSED MAN and there, I fold the rolling Sound of Dave Grohl, thanks man, now im 67years old and beginns to drumm . Really by myself!!

Let me tell you what it's like being a neighbor of one Dave grohl lol. His beach house is steps from mine and I'd run into him from time to time and our dogs would chase each other on the beach and I got to know a little about this guy. He's down to earth a very normal guy. No big parties no loud noises just a family guy enjoying some down time at the beach. What beach? Aww all I'll say it's in Ventura county next to channel islands harbor😉. Dave thank you for being an amazing neighbor and I'm only sorry you sold your beach home, not the same around here without your infectious smile. I'm so sorry about Taylor and your in mine and my families thoughts n prayers. RIP Taylor and Dave, we love you brother! Your always welcomed back here in the hood🤘

Are you frigging kidding me? I think Dave is a fantastic musician. Great writer. Excellent drummer...but the greatest drummer in the world? No way. Not even in the top 25.......maybe not in the top 100. And...don't EVEN be talking shit about John Bonham when you can't even say his name correctly. Give me a break.

Dave is great! He'd be pissed if he heard his name put above Bonham and the like! He looks up to those guys and has even said how incredible they were, how untouchable etc... Dave is an excellent excellent drummer and musician....but let's pump the brakes on being the best! Seriously

I thought they were jamming into 'Cult of Personality' at the beggining.

There are countless great drummers and everyone has a favorite I can think of a few he'd struggle to keep up with

He doesn't practice, he plays. So he is not a paradiddle drum solo kind of guy, but he plays very tight and has a unique feel. That's why he's one of the best in my opinion. And his work on the TCV album is my favorite.

I am a guitarist and wish i was a drummer. I can feel Dave's playing every time i listen to him play My Hero or even "A song for the dead" by QOS. What's crazy is that i like Taylor just as much when it comes to drumming but i love Dave as a whole (and as a musician) wayyy more

Grohl...been around a while now...respect.
