I can definitely relate! I remember once being in the express queue (12 items or less) and there was a LONG line of people waiting. There was an elderly lady at the checkout with a huge amount of groceries, and when they'd finally been scanned she faffed around querying prices, getting the cashier to manually check everything. People in the queue were starting to openly grumble...she turned around and smiled at the long line of people...then proceeded to waste yet more time. So yes, can relate to the frustration in Dave Allen's monologue. 😅

I only learnt about Dave Allan a few years ago, regrettably very late in his life BUT I love his humour. Allen the best. Queue jumpers: in the late 80s, I was with my wife at an Antiques Roadshow in a long queue. There was muttering and grumbling behind us; a guy was casually moving one at a time in front of other people in the queue. None of the mutterers and moaners said anything to him. When he moved in front of us I said to him "you're queue jumping, you were right back there"- he duly went right back there. I couldn't understand why none of the moaners had said anything to him

Ha! A big guy pushed in front of me once and I grabbed him at the waist and pulled him out. No queue jumping here, I said, and I don't care how big you are. Later on someone told me he was a detective inspector. I don't care, I said. But I fondly remember his chastened demeanor ever since.

The most of comedians adjust their acts according to the audience! I doubt if Tommy Cooper ever got into swearing? @@spudgunn8695

This gentleman is pure therapy.
I love his farewell, "May your god go with you."
A brilliant man, he was so ahead of his time ❤
An absolute comedic genius would watch his shows in tears of laughter with the family ,god bless you Dave for the laughter
Loved the supermarkets jokes, cried laughing!!!!
I used to watch Dave Allen At Large on BBC2 with my dear old Dad when I was growing up. He was brilliant. He still is.
Just brilliant!! What a genius!!
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
R. I. P dave Allen you were awesome
The first of the alternative comedians before the phrase alternative comedy even existed. I bet the streets were empty back in the early days when he was on telly...
Grew up with him in the seventies on tv when I was a kid, one of the funniest men ever!

Dave Allen you Good Sir you were such an inspirational force for me. I loved tuning in to you on T.V. to watch your programmes on a Friday night. You are so funny and will forever live on in my mind as being such a great person. I sadly miss you and your humor, simply brilliant R.I.P.
A truly remarkable talent at the top of his game.I don't think any of today's comedians can touch him.I have been breathless with laughter time and again
One word to say about Dave Allen this amazing ' R.I.P
he was truly brilliant
"May YOUR God go with you." I like that.
A comic genius and much missed.
What a legend
Social awareness and observation is top-notch! Pure genius. What a guy! ✊
has made his mark in history... what can be better. Great man.
One of the weeks highlights growing up watching Dave Allen with my dad. 😂
One of the best comedians ever ✌
Watching these videos of Dave Allen brings back so many memories of him, he was such a brilliant comedian. I used to watch his series all the time.
and for the last time may your god go with you .... that should be the most fucking epic ending line Ever...
I was tearing up with laughter...so brilliant... every single one of us related to this sketch!!!!
fantastic! we have all been there, and know how it feels! brilliant observational humour!
He's absolutely ✅ right about everything in life. Absolutely spot on and a genius.
Dave Allen can still make me laugh so much, even though I’ve seen it heaps. Remember my Daddy laughing so much at him, we would be sitting in front of the coal fire on a dark and dismal Wednesday night. - Dave Allen really brightened up the world and made it such a happier place for the time he was on. Missed still so much to this day Mr Allen xxx
I only learnt about Dave Allan a few years ago, regrettably very late in his life BUT I love his humour. The humour he finds in everyday happenings and then the ability to see the funny side and illustrate it for the likes of me. I also really appreciate that his humour was not filled with profanity.
For those who remember the change from Gateway to Somerfield, I was working for the company at the time. At an introduction evening, they showed this video, and everyone was in fits of laughter. Everything he says here is so completely true.

All of this is so true today. I get supermarket rage at ALL those things :)
I loved this guy back in the day & I love him still, they don’t make them them like him anymore.
A timeless classic - comedian, facial expressions/ hand movements. A mastermind At his best!.. he'll never be replaced Eva !! SO SADLY MISSED ...
Brilliant as always,
i used to watch him in england in the 70s. a true genius.
Quite frankly the greatest stand up comedian ever IMHO, a man who had a unique talent and wicked sense of humour. Greatly missed, thankfully there's clips like this to remind us of his genius!!

He was ahead of his time. Outspoken and authentic as well as naturally funny. His older stuff is still brilliant too.
thank you for uploading this. this is one of my favorite stories from Dave Allen and i remeber it every time i go to supermarket..
Used to love watching him with my parents even though a child, he was so ahead of his time it's untrue, miss you Dave
You made me laugh many times (love you always R.I.P. )
Wonderful. I've just returned home from then s/market. This video is such a tonic.
The irreplaceable Dave Allen , brilliant raconteur and actor. Sadly the era of the true comic genius has gone. He, along with several others of his generation could make us laugh till we cried. Who is there now that can do the same. RIP Dave.

There will never be another Dave Allen, amazing gifted man just love him. “Good night, God bless & May your God go with you” hope your resting i heavenly peace Dave.

He never said "God bless," as he was a practicing atheist. Take that phrase out, and you got it spot on!
I had the privilege of seeing him live in Boston in 1981. I've never had a funnier evening!
