    Dawdling away from junctions is a common fault even with the 'experienced' riders I take out. We all experience it when a car joins in front of us and then takes an age to pick up speed, so we shouldn't do it either. It's not mega acceleration that is required, just enough to keep following vehicles happy/at bay (without being pressurised to go too fast).

    Whats your view on installing loud aftermarket full exhaust systems on bikes to be heard? And an aftermarket loud horn too? Because the stock horns they have on bikes are really weak. Mentioning the counter steer is it push down forwards? What about your other hand just relax it?

    Hi Steve, personally I believe it's your training (planning, anticipation and positioning) and ability that will keep you safe on the road, rather than anything especially noisy. Down and away (away can also be described as forwards) on the handlebar in the direction you want to go. The other hand stays neutral on the bar. Thanks 😊

    Hello, the microphone is actually part of the Drift camera. It's a Rode Lavalier Go Professional. The comms system I use is a Cardo Scalarider, now obsolete but the Cardo systems are very good. Thanks for your comments 😊

    “Downhill, rear brake with the clutch out not in.” Could you advise on this please, thank you.

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    Hi, having appropriately slowed down in advance and selected the correct gear for the bend (this bend is tight so should be taken slowly in 2nd usually), by keeping the clutch out and using the brake, we are gaining maximum engine braking as well as tapering the speed away with the brake. Thanks, Leanna

    Im thinking of doing a DAS / getting a full licence. Would you say that doing a lot of driving (for job and personal use) would be advantageous or would it be like learning from scratch?

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    @motorcyclelessonsuk

    Having a licence does help because experience on the road in any setting is advantageous. It doesn't necessarily mean you will be a good rider, but it gives you a slight headstart. Forward planning and anticipation need to come up a level for motorcycle riding, compared to car drivers. Hope that helps 😊

    @@motorcyclelessonsuk oh yes...definitely need the forward planning and anticipation with some of the driving on the roads today...bad enough in the car sometimes

    Apologies if you've mentioned before Leanne, but I feel uncomfortable with the suggestion of pushing 'down' and away when countersteering.. Giving that even a push with a couple of fingers is enough to initiate the physics. I'm thinking of stiff arms developing in pupils.

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    @motorcyclelessonsuk

    Hi Graham, quite simply, using the phrase "down and away" works for us. Others have suggested saying "forward" but whilst we may understand the physics of it, plenty of students get in a muddle with this, resulting in too much of an output. When we start to lean all it takes is a gentle push in a down and slightly forward (i.e. "away") motion. We don't have any issues with students developing stiff arms. If I see any hint of stiffness I remind them to relax (see my "jelly elbows and chicken wings upload"). Training novices is a different ball game to training experienced riders as I'm sure you know, and the terminology reflects the easiest way to describe the action required without causing an aggressive response, and is reflected in the success we've had already using it. If students don't understand we do a roadside demo on the action required. Thanks as always, Leanna 😊

    @@motorcyclelessonsuk That's a great answer Leanne thank you, I don't have the benefit of teaching new riders, as you know ( only drivers) but I get a few joining us on our rides, so it's good to get feedback from you, as what pupils 'say' theve been taught, is, often a bit skewed from what theve 'actually' been taught. Thanks again 👍

    I suppose using the phrase "pressing" down might be an alternative to "pushing". The latter implies that some movement will result, which might cause too much input. Just a thought.

    @@martinwilkinson2344 Cheers Martin, yea if it works for pupils, I get it, although it was the word 'down' that raised my eyebrow. Not forgetting when we had that magic moment, when learning to ride a pedal bike, it was our subconscience realising if it falls left.. Turn left. 👍

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    It's a tricky one. Some poeple don't enjoy taking instruction which can be difficult for both parties! Perhaps try to relax and try not to get frustrated by the process. As adults it is harder because our brains are already second guessing what might come next. Just take it as it comes and let it happen 😊

    Hi Martin, sometimes it pays to sign up for Premium. For 50p per day it then becomes ad free. I realise it's not for everyone but worth considering if it becomes intolerable for you. I don't get commission for suggesting it by the way 😂. Thank you for your comment 😊
