What he did to Starkiller alone puts him beyond redemption to me.

Anakin's "redemption" isn't really about him redeeming himself, but about Anakin returning to the light side. It's this return to the light side that allows him to appear as a force ghost (I assume). I think it's possible that as a force ghost, Anakin did try to atone for the mistakes he made, but only to those who had known him. I think Anakin knew that the galaxy at large wouldn't be willing to forgive him when he was already dead

I've been making a similar argument since I was a kid. My case against Vader started sometime a few years after Episode VI (Return of the Jedi) was released, but well before the release of Episode I (The Phantom Menace). The crux of my argument was not just the people he murdered personally, but that he played a willing hand with little objection to planetary genocide. (Alderan) The fact that he tortured people (Including his own daughter and future son in law) also added to my argument of what a monster he truly was. When they showed the children being taught by Yoda in episode II (Attack of the Clones) when Obi-Wan and Anakin went to him for help, I immediately knew he was eventually going to kill those children. But while I knew their fate at his hands an entire film before it was revealed, my condemnation of him came far before I knew he was going to do it.

I don't think anyone excuses him from killing children then hunting the rest of the religion to almost extinction(maybe edgy kids do that). The redemption comes from finally coming back to the light, the redemption comes from after he lost everything, after the darkness consumed him. He finally could turn back to the light, do the right thing at last, a story, that tells it is never too late to do the right thing. Killing the emperor does not remove his terrible deeds, as does his dark actions not erase all the good he has done just the same. He is redeemed to us as we saw why everything transpired the way it did, he is redeemed to his son, he is redeemed to the force, so that he as a force ghost can continue that journey of change and acceptance, A cautionary tale, a story of tragedy, a story of pain, a story of darkness, a story of hope, a story of triumph, a story about love, a story about redemption, a story about Star Wars. This only works if we do see the dark side of the force as something incredibly addictive and consuming, I think it works like that in universe at least. He did become a force ghost, I think in the novels, and had a journey then, now appears in Ashoka. It's pretty cool how he has both the light and the dark, he has the demeanor and care of Anakin, but you can see how Vader mindset has influenced him. He's more strict and lacks some emotional capacity. He's something else but only light, more akin to just the force, the whole

Redemption means nothing if it cannot redeem the irredeemable.
