i never considered soldier boy a supervillain (at least not on the level of homelander). don’t get me wrong he’s no saint, but he actually does have a moral compass. and, as many have pointed out, he’s the one person who sticks to his word. he said he was going to kill homelander, and he tried to do that. it was Butcher who turned on him at the last second. he was justified in doing so since he was saving Ryan, but the reality is he kinda betrayed soldier boy. soldier boy does hold some pretty backwards beliefs, but they’re products of his time.
Yep reruns back in 1999!
Honestly Soldier Boy is the lesser of two evils, the boys and starlight so I'm pinning anymore lives taken by Homelander and his plans on them
👍
👍
I thought soldier boy came from the 80s
Soldier boy is bad ass
I saw this movie for the first time tonight. The local Alamo Drafthouse was having a screening. I invited my mom and we both went - she hadn’t seen it since it was in theaters. OMG - I was not prepared for how much I would bawl AND laugh! What a gem of a movie. Great review! 🙂 I didn’t realize it was based on a play, but it makes total sense. The dialogue is incredible.
That's Excellent! And thank you so much!!!!
Music is Awsome
I don't know about that. Liberty/Stormfront knew to change w the time. But didn't lose her racism. No excuse. Not for Homelander. It's up to the person to read, research, have independence, and not be easily amused. Tired of people being victims of others stupidity and pride.
I thought he was the hero.
I'm sorry but you're giving him to much credit. He was never a hero, he was a pretender. Also he was abusive towards his teammates. He's not what Captain America would have if he was really a man from the 40's, he's what the bully who was beaten Steve in the alley would have turned into if you'd given him the power of The Hulk, with all the PR machine of the military industrial complex.
Yeah, a lot of things in this video are interesting and pertinent but the portrayal as a betrayed man doesn't fit : his team wasn't made of people he trusted but of ones deemed as expendable underlings he could bully and abuse as he liked. When they turned on him, only his sense of superiority was betrayed as he thought he was untouchable.
naw he's just a suped up boomer
If a macho-something-to-prove-conservative got be Captain America. That would be a nightmare.
yea right, Homelander is misunderstood too then
Homelander is a psycho but what can you expect of a baby grown in a lab and bred to be nothing but the most powerful weapon Vought owns. Nobody is gonna be exactly well adjusted growing up that way but it does not for a second excuse his actions
@@richborn6700 I'm not disagreeing with the fact that their broken, I love HL and feel so incredebily bad for him. I disagree with SB getting called misunderstood. SB actually got to grow up and devolp, yea his dad was a worthless piece of sh*t but other than that he chose this life. You can't say that for HL, he never had a choice
Love how people make videos like this and refuse to admit that the Homelander is a tragic tale of what isolation, abuse, radicalization, and instilling a god complex can do to anyone and is the reason why he is the way he is. He’s always longed for an actual meaningful relationship with someone that won’t purposefully mislead him.
All that. True. He is still a villain and its his choice to do bad. Stop excusing malice for other things.
@@highlanderc ok, then any woman who gets SA’d and abuses/mistreats others are villains too.
Here's the main difference, Soldier Boy legit regrets the stuff he's done and doesn't actively go out of his way to hurt people. Homelander does horrible stuff, doesn't feel bad about it and does so without hesitation.
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 well, when you’re used as a human medical experiment tortured constantly to find your limits and have no social interaction or connection with anyone it’s impossible to develop those types of understandings. Homelander is very much a victim who was abused and only knew the evil of others, so just like voglebaum said “you should have been raised in a safe and loving home by a mother and father who loved you, and maybe you wouldn’t have turned into this” Homelander replied with “what I am is the greatest hero” and voglebaum said “no you’re my greatest failure” if the people who made him understand that they are the reason he is the way he is why can’t you? Homelander only knows trauma and suffering so why would you expect anything different from him. It’s like the saying of an abused animal lashing out “because thats all it knows”
Underrated comment
I like Soldier Boy. He's one of these characters who needs his own TV show.
This has such beautiful nostalgic value for me. "In every wish and dream and happy home."
At this point, I wouldn’t mind if Soldier Boy goes on a redemption arc and becomes the main character. I’m just tired of Hughie or more specifically, how he’s written as a weak, sensitive, coward of a man.
Big facts. Hughie is a shitty character and even butcher is getting played out by now.
Tbh hughie as seen by the end of season 3, has become more radicalized and violent due to Butcher’s influence, so I’d say he has decent character development. Sure what you said is accurate toward him in the beginning of the show doe
while i dont argue with the Hughie part i'd like Soldier Boy as a main arc along with the rest. Mostly because he's funny lol
How is he controversial if everybody hates him?
I saw him as the hero and a victim from his environment as a kid
I like it. Good interpretation of Soldier Boy. Not sure how much I agree with the fallout of his actions, but still: well thought out and concise. Bring us more of this!
Mega Corps are always the main problem.
Dude, you're not even reading into something too deep. it ISNT THERE. Soldier boy DIDNT have morality, he's a hedonistic, sorta-self hating asshole, insecure ppl on the internet just praise him out of, i guess, misunderstanding wanting a strong father figure
Was Soldier Boy messed up, unheroic, and has unhinged moments? Sure, obviously. But as you said he's a tragedy story and he does have a morality in there, but he's bogged down by his flaws too. And to this day, I don't take Noir's "memory lane" seriously. I can buy he was a bully, but this Proto-Homelander they tried to paint him as, I don't buy it.
Can you do a death battle of gremlins vs critters and a second death battle is ghoulies vs troll the third is munchies vs hobgoblins
Soldier Boy doesn't represent the morals of a bygone era. Like everything in The Boys, he represents the most cynical take on, in this case, that bygone era.
Omg this was my favorite show as a kid. ❤
Oh yeah!
It´s like a strange mixture of Conan The Barbarian and Flash Gordon...and Holding out for a Hero is the perfect theme for this!! Omg, I wish this was an actual trailer! I knew someone who would have loved this so much (RIP Michael T)
He basically what if the guy who bullied Steve rogers during training became Captain America
I love soldier boy - and I haven’t even finished season 1 yet 😅
Did Sholder boy show up in season 1?

No talent hack. Hope you don’t think someone is going to pay you for just hitting a button. You’ve already been replaced by a machine stupid
The xeniels know about this

I would like to see the concept with Zelda and Mike Tysons Punch Out and Castlevania would be a good one
Man, that movie was terrible.
No way, it was awesome!!!

Just because he’s a joke thief, doesn’t mean he would be a good joker
Dennis Leary would be a great Bill Hicks
but does he have the acting ability? its not just the look that counts
He’d be good, but not as good as Willem Dafoe. Update: Actually, what they SHOULD do is secretly have multiple Jokers, and have DL and WD play them, and try to make them look alike.
It would be fun for them to finally admit if there actually is more than one joker.
Just from the title alone, I full heartedly agree with you
Could be fun, but you'd have to get him on coke again, that manic behavior wasn't an act.
100%!!!!!!
Fail. Quit paying money for my related videos. Loser.
I'd like to see Denis Leary as a live action Joker, A good R rated dark and gritty, grounded Batman detective movie.
YES!!!!!
I hope we see him again and not just a cameo in Gen-V.
Exactly
@@tobattovisiontv There's season 4 coming soon so
@@HFyaboyewillbut he wasn't supposed to come back for that season
@@koleszgdanska7149you really think he won’t be in season 4? Look how the story is going..I really doubt Vought would just let a walking atom bomb go unchecked somehow. If black noir isn’t the clone of homelander it’s a somehow brainwashed soldier boy or he’s going to have SOME type of pivotal role
Also this song slaps.
Still waiting on mine.
My cousin loves that show
