    i never considered soldier boy a supervillain (at least not on the level of homelander). don’t get me wrong he’s no saint, but he actually does have a moral compass. and, as many have pointed out, he’s the one person who sticks to his word. he said he was going to kill homelander, and he tried to do that. it was Butcher who turned on him at the last second. he was justified in doing so since he was saving Ryan, but the reality is he kinda betrayed soldier boy. soldier boy does hold some pretty backwards beliefs, but they’re products of his time.

    I saw this movie for the first time tonight. The local Alamo Drafthouse was having a screening. I invited my mom and we both went - she hadn’t seen it since it was in theaters. OMG - I was not prepared for how much I would bawl AND laugh! What a gem of a movie. Great review! 🙂 I didn’t realize it was based on a play, but it makes total sense. The dialogue is incredible.

    I don't know about that. Liberty/Stormfront knew to change w the time. But didn't lose her racism. No excuse. Not for Homelander. It's up to the person to read, research, have independence, and not be easily amused. Tired of people being victims of others stupidity and pride.

    I'm sorry but you're giving him to much credit. He was never a hero, he was a pretender. Also he was abusive towards his teammates. He's not what Captain America would have if he was really a man from the 40's, he's what the bully who was beaten Steve in the alley would have turned into if you'd given him the power of The Hulk, with all the PR machine of the military industrial complex.

  • @nicolaschaigneau2001

    Yeah, a lot of things in this video are interesting and pertinent but the portrayal as a betrayed man doesn't fit : his team wasn't made of people he trusted but of ones deemed as expendable underlings he could bully and abuse as he liked. When they turned on him, only his sense of superiority was betrayed as he thought he was untouchable.

    Love how people make videos like this and refuse to admit that the Homelander is a tragic tale of what isolation, abuse, radicalization, and instilling a god complex can do to anyone and is the reason why he is the way he is. He’s always longed for an actual meaningful relationship with someone that won’t purposefully mislead him.

    Here's the main difference, Soldier Boy legit regrets the stuff he's done and doesn't actively go out of his way to hurt people. Homelander does horrible stuff, doesn't feel bad about it and does so without hesitation.

  • @kidkold7242
    @kidkold724214 күн бұрын

    @@thefanwithoutaface8105 well, when you’re used as a human medical experiment tortured constantly to find your limits and have no social interaction or connection with anyone it’s impossible to develop those types of understandings. Homelander is very much a victim who was abused and only knew the evil of others, so just like voglebaum said “you should have been raised in a safe and loving home by a mother and father who loved you, and maybe you wouldn’t have turned into this” Homelander replied with “what I am is the greatest hero” and voglebaum said “no you’re my greatest failure” if the people who made him understand that they are the reason he is the way he is why can’t you? Homelander only knows trauma and suffering so why would you expect anything different from him. It’s like the saying of an abused animal lashing out “because thats all it knows”

    At this point, I wouldn’t mind if Soldier Boy goes on a redemption arc and becomes the main character. I’m just tired of Hughie or more specifically, how he’s written as a weak, sensitive, coward of a man.

    Dude, you're not even reading into something too deep. it ISNT THERE. Soldier boy DIDNT have morality, he's a hedonistic, sorta-self hating asshole, insecure ppl on the internet just praise him out of, i guess, misunderstanding wanting a strong father figure

    Was Soldier Boy messed up, unheroic, and has unhinged moments? Sure, obviously. But as you said he's a tragedy story and he does have a morality in there, but he's bogged down by his flaws too. And to this day, I don't take Noir's "memory lane" seriously. I can buy he was a bully, but this Proto-Homelander they tried to paint him as, I don't buy it.
