Must be nice calling everything race based and then being happy about it, this has nothing to do with race. Chinese people don’t like being in the sun a lot because its unhealthy. UV rays will damage your skin and will increase your chances of skin cancer by about 50% if you get tanned everyday. Whiter skin is also more desirable because if you were more rich, then you wouldn’t have to waste time being a worker in the fields getting a tan. Essentially, if you are more pale, then you are healthier to an extent, you are more rich, and you look more attractive. Its not about being white, holy crap this culture has been around at least a thousand years before the two cultures even met each other.

I am ethnicity Chinese and have always been considered quite pale. However, I really don’t like the trend of regarding lighter skin as beauty, a person can be good looking regardless of their skin color just like a person can be not so good looking regardless of their skin color. I now live in an European country and am still probably lighter than some of the European folks here but nobody is complimenting me just based on my skin color which makes me feel a lot better about the mindset of the society I am currently in. Colorism is a big issue in a lot of Asian and African countries and whilst we can prefer ourselves to be a tad bit lighter or a tad bit darker depending on our own preference since tanning is quite prevalent in Europe as much as whitening in Asia, it shouldn’t be part of the standards that dictate who is good looking and who is not.

It kind of is a trend, as much as it is in american culture. I say its a trend because its not rooted in colour but the status associated with colour. If you're a white american then having a tan might be considered more desirable because it implies you're wealthy enough to take vacations or at least go to the salon. In african and asian countries, a tan might imply that you're a labourer and therefore lower status. No matter where you go in the world, people want to signify that they are wealthy and healthy and this is one of the means people use to do so, even if its antiquated@@uhhhhh341

But since the 2000's, there isn't any trend here in Europe, unlike Africa and Asia, we're very diverse and no skin color and haircolor is a "trend", it's just what you see daily.

White skin or lighter skin (not "pale sick" skin) has always been considered a high-class beauty standard for thousands of years in ancient China as well as the whole of East Asia (Japan, Korea, Vietnam....). It's part of East Asian culture, it's just how people in East Asia prefer, nothing wrong with that, and nothing to do with the modern "trends" and "White vs Black" issue racism mess from Western society. You really should learn more and educate more about your own people's culture. Have some pride and embrace ur own culture.

It should be noted that they are talking about pale-skinned vs dark-skinned Chinese, not about white vs black non-Chinese people, even though I see some comments have misconstrued this 😅 There are 1.4 billion Chinese and not all of them have the exact same pigmentation. Furthermore, exposure to sunlight has historically been a class thing in China. If you don't work on the field, you don't get sunburned, simple as that. Traditionally, Chinese have always valued protecting their skin from overexposure to the Sun. The modern Western tanning fad has never been a thing in China...

@apollotheallseer1227"grind" only so far as it's for yourself, for whatever makes you personally feel good and happy and content. Not to flex on anyone else, not to attract other people, but just because it can feel good to exercise/study/whatever. And it can feel good to push yourself, too - as long as you're not overdoing it, and still leave time for rest and self-care and other hobbies. There's nothing inherently wrong with "grinding" - persistence and discipline can be rewarding! But a lot of the "grind mentality" (and its more obnoxious cousin, "hustle culture") can get toxic real fast. So focus on learning what actually makes you feel better!! EDIT: I said "only grind for yourself" but I understand that lots of people "grind" to provide for their families or other loved ones. I have tons of sympathy for that, and I wish it was easier to provide for loved ones

Yup I have pale skin and honestly it has been an insecurity for me. It makes my skin look uneven because of transparency. And I couldn't cover it because makeup didn't match. Later realized it was a red-head feature. I have slightly orange blonde hair. Regular color theory for clothes also doesn't work for red-heads, so I never looked good in my clothes when I was young. It's still kinda awkward to try to embrace. Gives me colonial painting vibes. The kind of ideology that romanticises my skin color is pretty disgusting.
