Fun fact: When Joker had the gun to his head in Harvey's hands his thumb was on the hammer. Joker only gave him the illusion of choice to see if he could break Dent down to his level. And it worked.

Also his entire monologue is specifically crafted to manipulate Harvey and take advantage of his mental state. All this: “Do I look like a guy with a plan?”, and “I’m just a dog chasing cars” stuff is complete bs. We see throughout the movie how calculating and meticulous he is in regards to his plans and how they play out. Evidently it works because Harvey says later on “Joker’s just a mad dog, I want whoever let him off the chain.” If you really listen to his other monologues, specifically his interactions with the mob bosses, and the interrogation room one, you’ll start to see he does this with pretty much everyone he talks to. He figures out their motives and leverages it in order to get what he wants out of them, all the while downplaying his own intelligence and cunning. It’s pretty crazy because even people who’ve watched the movie don’t pick up on this. They take what he says at face value and completely miss how much planning and forethought goes into his schemes. The Joker doesn’t just manipulate Dent, he manipulates the audience itself.

I once got into an argument with someone over that very scene. the person I was arguing with thought that movies were made the same way that stage plays are, so everyone knew what to expect. I had to break it down that movies are far more intricate to shoot and actors don't have the time to do all the practicing and dress rehearsals that the stage requires.

Harvey, as he previously stated, disliked the fact that Gordon had an office with people he interrogated at the MCU and he asked him to take action. But Gordon failed to do so. Ultimately, it was the Weurtz and Ramirez, two of the mains in Gordon's unit who went corrupt and were used by Maroni to set the trap which killed Rachel. That is the reason Harvey threatened Gordon's family, because if he had listened to him, if he had taken a stand against corruption, Rachel would still be alive.

9:09 they say earlier in the movie that it was an extraction method they actually used in the Vietnam war. which is true, it was adapted from a method they used to pick up mail in the 1920s. eventually, they developed a shock absorption system and the cord they used was actually made of nylon, so it had a bit of stretch to it. Otherwise, yeah it would probably kill the person.

The bit with the hospital bombing is so funny actually. They only had one take to get it right because they were essentially demolishing a building for real to do it, so it had to be perfect. Unfortunately there was a problem with the pyro-charges, and some were delayed, which is why it looked like only a few went off at first. Heath saved the take by staying in character and doing that funny little thing with the remote, and Nolan was so relieved, as well as delighted, that it not only made the cut but MADE the scene.

And i quote "Holmes never clarified the exact scheduling concern, but she did announce that she wouldn't return for The Dark Knight at the same time as she joined Queen Latifah in the 2008 comedy Mad Money" So there you are, no clear reason whatsoever, maybe she just wasn't feeling like returning to the franchise again and following other career opportunities instead (even though the first one was a global success i don't even know what she's thinking but hey to each their own i guess). It's not new actors often do that.

I love The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger was incredible. I remember being so excited when they announced his involvement in 2006 and I had already been a fan of him because of a Knight’s Tale. Many people hated the choice because of Brokeback Mountain and it’s sad because Brokeback Mountain was a heart breaking movie with powerful performances. The fact that Heath was only 27 years old when he played The Joker blows my mind. I know people think Christian Bale sucked as Batman due to the voice but I think he was awesome. All the cast were stellar.

Bruce Wayne purposefully acts like an arrogant billionaire. The more he acts like that, the less likely anyone would ever think he's helping the city as Batman. But the billionaire act is not his true self.

As Christian Bale himself put it "Bruce Wayne is the mask. Batman is the true face". In one of the comic stories a telepathic villain tries to kill Batman by planting suicidal thoughts in his head. When asked how he knew those thoughts were coming from an external source and weren't his own, Batman said "They called me Bruce. That's not what I call myself in my own mind".

The thing with The Joker is he doesn't have one masterplan. Rather, he has several plans going at once, set up in a way so that he succeeds regardless of their outcome. Like chasing down Dent's police escort. Here are the potential outcomes... - He kills Harvey Dent and/or Batman. He wins. - He forces Batman to kill him, making Batman break his one rule. He wins. - If he gets captured, he has his men on standby to kidnap Dent and Rachel, and his goon with the bomb in his stomach to escape the police station. He wins. Or the two ferries... - One ship blows up the other one. He wins. - Neither ship does anything. Admittedly, that one throws him for a loop. But still, he had a third detonator on-hand that would blow up both ships. He wins. - If Batman or Gordon capture him, he already sent Harvey off on his murder spree. He wins.

10:39 The two part answer is this: A) Joker sent that to the media because he knew they would do the one thing that police or the government wouldn't. Release it publicly. B) It is precisely as you said it in your reaction. He wants the people to panic especially since to the public eye, they thought they saw Batman hung to death and literally dropped in full broad daylight.

12:55 Joker throws Rachel out the window in front of a full room of wealthy party-goers, Batman dives out and catches her...then immediate cut to the next day. So I guess Batman just went home after that, leaving the Joker upstairs with all those people? No further effort to try to catch the Joker? Did the Joker kill everyone else at the party, all of Gotham's effete elites? We'll never know.

28:25 Dent goes after Gordon because Gordon was indirectly to blame. Gordon made a task force in the beginning of the movie that comprised of dirty cops and Dent knew and warned him about, but Gordon didn’t listen. So in Dent’s mind, which is also clouded with rage and immense pain, he blames Gordon most of all.

The reason why in my opinion this is the greatest superhero movie ever made is because in the end, the Joker still won. He crippled the leadership of Gotham’s Police. He converted the city’s symbol of hope to madness. And Cherry on Top, he made Batman break his One Rule. It’s a pity that Ledger would not live to see how much of an impact his Joker had and he still remains to be the most quoted, referenced, and popular Joker of all time.
