@@kaiielle Wow! That's funny because Interstellar's also my favourite film of all time. What an incredible experience I remember just sitting down to watch it , not knowing anything about it except for the fact that it was made by Nolan. What I watched was a moving, despairing, jaw-dropping, tension filled experience that had me drained by the end. The score alone fills the viewer with both a curious fascination and panic stricken terror of the depth of space and the unknown. I think my heart nearly froze when Cooper entered the 4th dimension. Goodness, I'd love to experience that terror again Weird to think that the scariest film I've watched is not a horror film

It's insane to read the script for this film with how the Joker's lines were written in such a simplistic, instructional way compared to what you see onscreen. Nolan gave Ledger so much leeway with how to approach his role as the character, which led to much improvisation. Like, the scene where the Joker interrogates the fake Batman on the video is just simply described in the script, with no specifics as to how Ledger should move or speak. But he added his own flair to the scene, what with playfully dangling the mask around, alternating between slapping and stroking the mans face, making so that you have no idea what will happen next. It's such a terrifying scene.

I don’t blame you for missing this, because 90% of reactors and even myself when first seeing it, also missed it, but everyone questions the opening scene and why the bank has money like that or why the bank manager has a shotgun. When vault guy says “what kinda bank arms it’s vault with x amount of volts?” The other guy responds “a mob bank”. Which also answers what the alarm guy says earlier “that’s funny, it wasn’t dialing out to 911, it was trying to reach a private number” aka the mob. Just pointing it out in case you thought those were flaws :)

What a way to end it. So glad you liked it and glad you liked Harvey Dent cause his character was great. I also noticed when JOKER uses the hand sanitizer in the hospital when I first watched this...that was hilarious! Looking forward to the next, final movie reaction. Keep smiling 🤘 🙂

Something that makes this my favorite Batman film is Heath’s performance. Not only with what we saw on screen but learning all the little things that made his Joker come to life on screen. For instance, when he does that little thing where he licks the side of his cheek where the scars are, in reality it was because the prosthetics that were used to make the scares were always coming off and Heath would use his tongue to put them back in pace during shoots. It then just became a tick he added to the character and it just gives off the feeling that he’s a sick man who’s been hurt. Almost like a dog that licks it’s wounds just makes him appear more inhuman and crazy. It’s this and the multiple other little pieces that just make his Joker unmatched. He did such an amazing job. It’s a shame he’s no longer with us.

Michael Caine says. “He’ll frighten the life out of you,” Caine said of Ledger, “He did me the first time I saw him, because we did a rehearsal on the first day and we hadn’t met or anything. He had to come up in an elevator to our home, Batman’s home. I’m thinking I’m letting friends in, instead of which he’s killed them all and he’s coming up in the lift. So on the first rehearsal…when the bloody door opened on that lift, he came tearing out. I forgot every line. Terrifying.”

I agree. He was memorably great in this role. I worked in a county detention center for six years, and his character reminded me that some of our inmates showed greater morality than some officers. As an example, the last time I intervened in a fight between two inmates I jumped between them. When they kept swinging pay me at each other inmates who thought I was being hurt pulled them apart. The only other officer present did nothing.

Fun fact: when this movie was in Post production the Director instructed the audio department to "Go Big" with the movies audio track. He wanted the audience to actually FEEL that this was a much "bigger" movie than Batman Begins. That's why the sound is amped up to 20 and everything is louder. From the simple whispered dialogue to the effects of the environment to the explosions and action. I first watched this on my home theater system and I could not go louder than about 30% before my subwoofer started vibrating the floor, whereas Batman begins I could watch at almost 90% volume.

Wow! That reminds me that Warren Beatty did the same with " Bonnie and Clyde ". He went to a showing and the sounds weren't punching through. He visited the projectionist. The projectionist had previewed the movie noting the locations of the loud sounds and would turn down the volume as a loud sound would approach. Beatty told him to run the film as is, without the sound edits. :)

The Dark Knight will always be a classic, damn near perfect film and is totally deserving of its "one of the best comic book movie" reputation. I agree though that the villains in particular and other supporting characters are so great that it makes Bruce/Batman pale in comparison, its for sure one of my biggest gripes about the Nolan trilogy and most Batman movies in general. If you ever see Matt Reeves' The Batman, I think that movie is the only batman film that makes Bruce as interesting as the antagonist so hopefully you react to that someday. :)

I find using the word "classic" is incorrect. Everything you said about it is spot on, just not the "classic" part. It's a word used far too easily without any regard to the word's meaning. Personally I prefer to use the word Epic. Classic is used far too easily for movies that are simply out on DVD/Bluray. They were huge epic movies in the theaters but now that they're for sale they're "classics"?? As far as I'm concerned a "classic needs to be at least 20 - 30 years old before even being considered for that title.

There are so many great parts in this movie. It's really hard just to choose one. When it was dialogue between any of the amazing actors or the actual action scenes. The scene(s) that gives me chills every time is towards the end where everyone on the boats are deciding whether or not to trigger the detonator and the fight scene between Batman and the Joker. If you loved the ferry scene... There's something most people don't pick up about that scene. It's the part where the prisoner says, "I'm doing something you should've done 10 minutes ago...". Most people would take that to mean that he was going to pull the trigger and blow up the other boat, but then the twist is that he just throws it out the window, and THAT'S what the guy should've done 10 minutes ago... The little details like that are what really make this a mind blowing movie!💥😵‍💫😵💥

Also, the old man that Joker threatens at the fundraiser party is the Sr. US Senator from my home state of Vermont, Patrick Leahy, who is a huuuuuuge Batman fan and likes to do cameos :D The scene right after where he tells Rachel that story was the first time Maggie Gyllenhall had seen Heath in his makeup, and it wasn't scripted that he was going to hold her by the back of her head with the knife in her face, so she was T E R R I F I E D during that sequence. Heath also told Christian to really hit him during the interrogation scene so that his performance would seem more real. It definitely worked.

The villains being more interestingly written than his version of Batman also didn't help... That's why I prefer Affleck's, Pattinson's and Keaton's versions of the character over Bale's. Those guys feel more like an entity or a force of nature to be reckoned with. They're actually scary. In TDK and TDKR, Bale just feels like just a guy in a costume sometimes (which is what Nolan intended, but I just don't like that interpretation of Batman).

@@b.u.l.1734 I can also kind of get behind Bales Bat-voice in Begins as he's still starting his crime fighting career. But it should have become more refined and clear by the next film. It does get a few giggles out of me when he shouts 'WHERE ARE THEY?!' But as Bruce Wayne, he's brilliant, you can see the American Psycho upper class yuppie influence play it's part. It's an aspect of Pattinsons Batman I think was lacking- I understand that he's still in his younger years, but the playboy billionaire facade isn't really there. Unlike Bale however, he was a great Batman, particularly with how he acted with his eyes. I kind of feel that Affleck balanced out the two roles the best, but he was also playing a very different Batman, the type that drew inspiration from more cynical comic books like Watchmen or the Dark Knight Returns. Plus, his world was less grounded in realism.

You complete me.» Or Fox’ «This isn’t part of my job description.» I love this 2nd movie so much because I was disappointed by the first film, just because I had too high hopes. For this one my expectations were grounded and the cast (especially Heath) blew me away. And of course: You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Heath did both, RIP.

I never liked that "hero/villain" line. It doesn't make any sense to me, frankly. It works for the story, sure, but for it to be accurate, you have to assume that individual morality can't advance with that of society. That's a seductive idea to aging Baby Boomers who don't want to have to comprehend new ideas, but it simply isn't true, as any survey of humanity will tell you. Also not sure it matches historically with the Republic/Empire comparisons they were making, but it's actually so vague that you can't derive any meaning from it. It's one of a small number of missteps, in my opinion.

No, Joker's a zealot. He wanted Batman to hit him because he wanted to prove that everyone will compromise their morals when the stakes are high enough. He'd had his suspicions about Batman before, but that moment was when he realized Batman wasn't just a thug with fancier-than-average gear. It's the same reason Joker put a gun to his head and Dent's finger on the trigger, and why he laughed as he plunged to his death after Batman threw him from the building. It's about sending a message; everything burns.

I've heard the "blow up their own boats" theory, but I don't think it holds. As Joker says, he's a man of his word, if, admittedly, not always the manner one might assume. As far as I can tell, Joker only outright lies once in the film; when he switches the addresses. That's for a very specific purpose, though - to break Batman - and heavily telegraphed, at least by Joker standards. 250 52 Street is a palindrome. Avenue X is just a cross. And Cicero, especially in relation to the earlier discussions about Caesar and the Empire, was either one of the Republic's last great defenders or a major cause of its downfall, depending on your historical POV (the latter one is correct). Every element of the addresses indicated the possibility of a switch, but Batman was too emotionally-involved to pick-up the pattern. In addition, Joker always acts with a purpose; to force people to admit that their morality is a lie. He would want the murderers on either boat to have to live with their decision as public examples of the truth of his message. Joker's an evangelist.

I find the situation with the boats particularly interesting. How people perceive that scenario is a function of certain personality traits, along with life experience. And there are a wide variety of perspectives. It certainly wasn't random chance to have the most morally, and ethically enlightened choice be made by an actor playing a large, intimidating, highly stereotypical criminal. The correct choice is not to play the game. Not to take the lives of others just to save your own. It's the brave choice.
